MASVINGO – The
Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) is moving towards imparting greater appreciation
of national heritage among its members by giving the opportunities to acquire
new knowledge.

was revealed at a Headquarters 4 Infantry Brigade graduation ceremony where 10
members of the ZNA were given certificates for completing an Executive Guiding Tour
Course in National Heritage.

The graduation was done in company with the
National Monument and Museums of Zimbabwe (NMMZ).

course is meant to equip members of the ZNA with deep understanding of national
history and heritage as well as to instill values of the liberation struggle.

Speaking
at the event, course facilitator and NMMZ southern region director, Lovemore
Mandima said the course was critical in helping soldiers improve their
understanding of national heritage.

leader of the course, Sifundiso Ndhlovu said his team was humbled by the
support that NMMZ and ZNA accorded them throughout the duration of training.

“As
graduates, we are overwhelmed by the support we got from NMMZ and ZNA up to
this day. We managed to visit such shrines as Nyadzonia in Zambia and Chimoio in
Mozambique. We also had an opportunity to visit local heritage sites like Dlodlo
and Matobo,” said Ndhlovu.

said the course had helped them to appreciate the country’s liberation heritage
which included massacres that were perpetrated by the enemy.

soldiers, we are the last line of defence for our country so we must guard it jealously
against all threats. We must also protect our national heritage sites and pass
the knowledge that we have to the next generation. The next generation must be
able to acknowledge our gallant history of liberation,” Ndhlovu said.
