Two
mentally-challenged people recently died on the streets of Masvingo, one of them
reportedly after being assaulted by homeless children, TellZim News has learnt.
A woman who, for
long, had set-up camp at Kyle House along Hughes St was found dead last Sunday
morning.
The woman was
identified as Locadia Gutu but people commonly referred to her as ‘VaMagumbo’.
Some people said she had complained about severe headache and her body had
swelled massively.
Police
spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the death and said they were
carrying out investigations.
A week before,
Sydney Chingoma died at Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he had been rushed
reportedly after being found with a deep scar on his head.
Chingoma, who
was commonly known as ‘Tsano’, had for many years slept on the pavement close
to Zuva Kyle fuel station but management there recently chased him away
reportedly because he was ‘making a mess of the place’.
After being
evicted from the place, he is said to have went to a another place close to
Pick n Pay where he reportedly clashed with street kids there who then beat him
up.
When TellZim
News asked Mazula if the police were investigating a murder case, she said she
had not even received the report of the now almost three-weeks-old incident.
Authorities in
Masvingo have been blamed for turning a blind eye on homeless mentally challenged
people.
