…as party lines up thank you rallies

Zanu PF has attacked university and college students
in Masvingo Urban for letting the party down by voting for the MDC Alliance in
the July 30 harmonised elections thereby costing it of total victory in the
province.
Speaking at an inter-district meeting at Masvingo
Polytechnic last Saturday, Zanu PF politburo member and principal director of
the Hebert Chitepo School of Ideology, Munyaradzi Machacha said students were
ungrateful for the ‘quality education’ that Zanu PF was giving them.
“We lost Masvingo Urban to MDC Alliance because of
students at tertiary institutions. They get our quality education and they go
on to betray us. They are the ones who voted for the opposition,” said
Machacha.
Machacha was in charge of the Zanu PF cell verification
process in the province in the run up to the July 30 harmonised elections.
He said despite the minor setback, the ruling party
was now looking forward to the 2023 elections.
Of the 26 parliamentary seats allocated to the
province, Zanu PF lost only one; Masvingo Urban which was won by the youthful
Jacob Nyokanhete of MDC Alliance who beat Zanu PF’s Benjaman Mazarire, a war
veteran.
Machacha said Zanu PF party had now lined up 26 thank
you rallies as a token of appreciation to its supporters.
He said the people had to be thanked for their ‘faith’
in the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s.
“Masvingo you did us proud and the President thanks
you. We should now shift our focus towards 2023 elections. But before we do
that, we should do a total of 26 thank you rallies in the province in each
constituency thanking our people for a job well done.
“There is plenty of party regalia in Harare and we
want to distribute it during these thank you rallies. We need to throw a party
for our people so that they get an appreciation of what it is like to identify
themselves with Zanu PF,” said Machacha.
Former Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial
Affairs, Josaya Hungwe said the party should be careful not to let its guard
down or it will be given a knock-out punch.
“Let us guard our party jealously because if we let
our guard down, we will be hijacked like what happened with the G40. Let us
work to protect our legacy that the new dispensation has brought about,” said
