07 March 2017, GWERU – Methias Muzvondiwa (19) and Wellington Muzvondiwa (24) of Chirumhanzu were recently sentenced to four years in prison each after they pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a man who had complained that Methias was playing unpleasant music at a bar at which they were drinking.
Gweru Magistrate Kudakwashe Nemadire suspended 18 months and ordered the two to perform 12 weeks of community service at Makanya Primary School in Chirumanzu.
The remaining six months were suspended on condition that they each pay US$52.50 fine to Robert Majoni by March 31, 2017 through the Gweru clerk of court.
Appearing for the State, Andrew Marimo told the court that on December 4, 2016 at around 22:00 hrs, Majoni, Methias and Wellington were drinking beer at Chirove bar at Muwani business centre in Chirumhanzu.
A misunderstanding on the type of music played arose among Methias, Wellington, one Onias Takura, Majoni and one Funwell Marunga as they all wanted to operate the music system which was being operated by Methias.
Methias started assaulting Takura with clenched fists several times on the body and Wellington went on to strike Majoni once on the mouth with a clenched fist and they began to fight. It was heard that Methias then came from behind with a knife and stabbed Majoni on the back and escaped.
Takura filed a report to the police leading to the arrest of the two.
Majoni sustained a stab wound on the back and a medical report was produced in the court as exhibit.local
