The controversial unbroken traffic line along Hofmeyer Street

07 March 2017, MASVINGO – OK Masvingo has successfully lobbied council to remove the controversial unbroken traffic line along Hofmeyer Street between Leopold Takawira Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Avenue.
The move follows complaints by OK Masvingo that the line was not good for its business because shoppers were being fined for crossing the line while looking for parking space.
Minutes of a recent full council meeting indicate that the line will be removed for good.
“The City Engineer reported that the continuous centre line on Hofmeyer Street between Leopold Takawira Avenue and Josiah Tongogara was introduced to reduce chaos and instill order on the road since motorists used to turn right at random,” read the minutes.
TellZim News is informed that the move to remove the line is designed to let shoppers freely look for parking space.
“…the request by OK Zimbabwe Limited, Masvingo Branch for the removal of the continuous white line along Hofmeyer Street, between Leopold Takawira Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Avenue be granted,” the resolution reads.
Masvingo Mayor; Hubert Fidze also told TellZim News that the resolution will soon be implemented, saying complaints over the line were also coming from residents.
“We will make sure that the resolution is swiftly implemented because complaints over the line had also been raised by the public. We are here to serve the community and we will definitely do as they ask,” said Fidze.local
