Shameless: Police release teargas on CCC supporters after banning rally

TellZim Reporter

CHIREDZI – The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Chiredzi, after banning the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) election campaign launch in Tshovani Stadium, where its leader, Nelson Chamisa was expected to address this week threw teargas to innocent civilians who stay close to the stadium and school children who were coming from school.
The police banned the rally saying they were under resourced to provide security during the rally but managed to throw teargas canisters to disperse party supporters who had camped outside the stadium to meet Chamisa who was expected to address them.
When contacted for comment, National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he would need to get information of what transpired from the police command in Masvingo.
“I will have to check with police command in Masvingo to be able to comment on the matter,” said Nyathi.
However, TellZim News witnessed the fiasco where a number of people including the elderly had torrid time in breathing as they were affected by the smoke.
Chiredzi Town Council Vice Chairperson and Chiredzi Central CCC aspiring candidate, Ropafadzo Makumire confirmed the incident and said he doesn’t know why the police decided to use teargas in residential area after spending several hours with party supporters who were waiting to meet Chamisa.
He said they suspect that the police could have been ordered by their bosses in Masvingo or Harare.
“This wasn’t their idea, there was an invisible hand behind. They had spent several hours with us, though we were barred from entering Tshovani Stadium, they never raised a single button stick to anyone,”
“We were shocked as to how they later decided to fire tear gas in a residential area? It seems Zanu PF was controlling our peace loving officers,” Makumire said.
He went on to say a number of people were affected and had to be rushed to hospital.
“Several people were hospitalized after inhaling the gas. What bothers us mainly is CCC is being treated this way when Zanu PF is holding meetings without interference from the police,” said Makumire.
In banning, the gathering police said they had channeled resources towards the official commissioning of Gwaseche Clinic and Rusununguko where Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira was expected to come.
“Your Notification has been noted, unfortunately there will be a state occasion on 05/07/23 for the official opening of Rusununguko Clinic in Chiredzi by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution where all resources are focused. Your notification has not been approved in terms of Section 8 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11:23,” read the Police response written by Chief Superintended Chihwereva.
Chamisa was said to be coming from Chikombedzi and would make a stop in Tshovane, however, the police locked the stadium and people had to wait outside.
Sensing an imminent threat from the numbers of people, the police ordered people to go back home and disperse from the stadium. Some abided and some tried to resist forcing the ‘under resourced’
The smoke managed to force them to retreat into the residential area and the police went on to fire more gas canisters in homes, affecting innocent residents and school children and as well as those who were coming from work along Warth Road.
Areas along Chigarapasi Beerhall which is close to the Stadium along Warth Road to Tshovani Primary were all choked with tear gas, forcing many to vacate their homes.
This comes after the Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) with some members of the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) have been allegedly going around tearing and spray painting campaign posters for Ropafadzo Makumire, who is standing in for CCC in Chiredzi Central Constituency.

MUTARE – Mutare Army-based side Buffaloes FC maintained its winning streak after disimissing Renco Mine by a goal to nil at Mutare Showgrounds over the weekend.
Buffaloes, which are fourth on the Eastern Region Division 1 log table, broke the deadlock after its striker fired a ferocious shot to the back of the net from a set piece in the first half. The goal separated the two teams after 90 minutes and an elated Buffaloes coach Shadreck Mugurasawe said his side is determined to win the championship this season though they started on a slow pace.
“It was a tight game but we managed to collect three points. We have to pull up our socks and maintain our winning form because we are determined to challenge the championship. The competition is high this season but I am happy that we are collecting maximum points,” said Mugurasawe.
He added that winning at home is crucial as it boosts confidence for both the players and supporters.
“Winning at home is always great; it motivates both the players and the fans. I am happy our fans are coming in their numbers when we are playing at home and we do not want to disappoint them. Winning also boosts players’ confidence and that is very important because we are yet to face some strong teams in the league,” said Mugurasawe.
“We cannot talk of FC Mazodze clinching the title because any team in the top six can walk away with the honors if you look at it closely. You can rule us out at your own peril but for now our focus is on our next assignment where we aim of collecting maximum points against FC Hunters,” he added.
Buffaloes now sit in the 4th position, 6 points behind log leaders Zhalala Zhululu as Wangu Mazodze is affectionately known.
FC Wangu Mazodze shot to the top of the log table after thwarting Tenax 3-0 at Mucheke Stadium last Sunday.
Bikita Minerals proved too good for Prince Tafirenyika and his Rusitu Tigers as they received a 3-2 thumping.
Surrey, who are also in top 10 mix came out victors against Masvingo United.

Poor service delivery violates human rights

Local authorities violates human rights by failing to provide good services to the people and this affects the people’s enjoyment to their fundamental rights.
This was revealed in a public meeting held at Mucheke hall on July 6, 2023, hosted by Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURA) and Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD).
Speaking at the meeting Godfrey Mutimba of MURA expressed its concern over the poor services delivered by Masvingo City Council and said, by doing so the council is depriving human rights of the residents.
“As residents we are not happy with the way that we are getting water from the local authority, water usually runs from our tapes in the morning between 5 am and 9am which is a very a short stime. The constitution clearly states that people have a right to access clean water and food but Masvingo City Council is failing to provide water for us and our access to that water is also limited. This clearly means that the council is violating our right to access safe and clean water,” said Mutimba.
Mutimba also said council further violate residents’ rights through overcharging service the bills which he said were higher than the service people are getting.
“Council is overcharging us for the services that we are not getting, as residents we are receiving atrocious bills that most cannot afford. Council is billing us using the bank rate and with the state the state of our economy the rate rise every month which mean bills rise every month,” said Mutimba.
He went on to say council was violating the basic right to education as they are failing to construct more schools.
“The local authority is also violating our rights to education because they are failing to construct council schools, at one point the council lied to us that they are not allowed to construct secondary schools. We engaged Lawyers for Human Rights who told us that council was lying to, we then confronted them and they agreed to construct Rujeko Secondary School,” he said
COTRAD information officer Leah Matavire said the local authority was violating the right to health.
“Failure to provide water by council leaves us prone to outbreaks like cholera and typhoid as people end drinking water from unprotected and contaminated water sources. This means people’s right to health have been violated,” said Matavire.
Residents who attended the meeting complained mainly on water bills which they said was not reasonable considering that they receive water for a few hours at most.

Reprieve for Chitima inferno victims

Perpetua Murungweni

Vendors from Chitima, who lost their goods to fire last week, have received help from different stakeholders including help from the aspiring Member of Parliament for Masvingo urban Wellington Mahwende.
Mahwende gave US $1000 to the fire victims from Chitima Fruit and Veg and said it should aid on the help that they are receiving so that they get back on track.
“I have come here to help and I am sure this money will aid on what you are already getting from different stakeholders to start. This is the first step but I will negotiate with Masvingo City Council as the deputy mayor. We want to get rid of plastics roofs and make sure that all vendors will get iron sheets shades so that we avoid similar incidents,” said Mahwende.
Chitima Fruit and Veg committee Chairperson Martin Shaka said they were happy with the donation from Mahwende and other stakeholders.
“I am very happy today with what Mr Mahwende has done for us, it was not easy for our fellow vendors after the fire but now it’s better, we have managed to continue our business as usual,” said Shaka.
He went on to say Wisrod Investments, a microfinance company that offers financial services to informal traders, donated US$100 to their clients who are part of the victims as well as freezing their loans, and gave them another loan each so that they can start over.
“I would also want to thank Wisrod for what they have done to us, they gave US $100 to each victim who is their client. They froze all the loans that the victims had and offered them new loans so that they can kick start their business,” said Shaka
Shaka also thanked fellow Chitima vendors from the clothing and grocery side who managed also to contribute towards the victims.
“I would also want to thank our fellow vendors from the flea market who raised US $600 for the victims and that will go a long way in making sure that they get back on their feet,” he said.
One of the victims Wanisai Pamire could not hide her joy and thanked, Wisrod, Mahwende and all those who donated to them.
“I am grateful to what Wisrod, Mahwende and other stakeholders did for us, it was difficult for us to reestablish our businesses but with the help that we received it has become easy,”.
Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprise, Vendors 4ED, Masvingo Small and Medium and Enterprises (SMEs), Masvingo City Council and Tsungai Complex vendors’ representatives who were present at the handover promised to raise something to donate to the victims.

Mutodi fires live bullet at CCC supporters

…as Zanu PF, CCC clash in Bikita

Brighton Chiseva

BIKITA – As political tempers continue to rise, Zanu PF aspiring candidate for Bikita South Energy Mutodi fired gunshots at Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members who were waiting for thier leader to address them at Baradzanwa shopping Centre on Thursday July 06.
Masvingo Police could not comment on the matter and referred all questions to the national spokesperson who was not answering his cell.
Bikita South CCC aspiring candidate Barney Nyika confirmed the incident and said Mutodi and his men had occupied their rally venue and when CCC supporters confronted him that’s when he fired some shots but they stood their ground and maintained their ground.
“He occupied the venue for our rallies before our arrival. When our supporters started to trickle in, they tried to inquire from him what he was doing at their venue. He became violent and fired twice or thrice at our supporters who stood their ground and maintained their presence at the venue,” said Nyika
However, Mutodi gave a different account of the incident to TellZim News saying his security aide is the one who fired a single shot to disperse CCC members who were charging and had cornered him and his people.
“It’s true, my security aide fired a single warning shot in the air to disperse CCC members who had cornered us and were stoning our vehicles and when the shot was fired that when we managed to escape,” said Mutodi
He went on to say Barney Nyika also came and reprimanded his supporters for causing violence saying as Bikita South they were a peaceful but it was CCC members who attacked them first.
“There were three rallies in the Bikita South, CCC had theirs in ward 7 and we had two, in ward 8A and B. one of my teams who were going to ward 8A were attacked and had to wait for me. When I arrived they started throwing stones at us and we were cornered, my security aide had to fire the shot.
He went on to say they were peaceful as Bikita South as evidenced by the fact that their rally went on unlike in other areas like Chiredzi where they failed.
“We are a peace loving people as Bikita South, we could have retaliated and their rally could not have happened but we just left and reported the matter to the police who came to attend the scene later,” said Mutodi.
Chamisa failed to address in Chiredzi after police denied them permission saying they had no manpower since there was a state event in the area.
In Zaka the address was cut shot by police who said the time that was on the police permission granting order had lapsed.

ZANU PF, CCC two sides of the same coin

Whoever said Zimbabweans are the most educated people in Africa should be imprisoned and the keys thrown away, that was a big fat lie chete. Oh chete it’s not about being educated but literacy. How can educated people be duped year after year with these Ponzi schemes. How on earth will people who are literate be scammed so easily? Let me tell you from today onwards my readers, hakuna chemahara. When we grew up kwedu kwaChirimudombo we used to say chemahara mushana but it was also a lie, kana watouda mushana wacho you have to go kwauri. Unotoufambira so there is nothing that comes easy. God said muchadya cheziya and that’s it. In 2021 people lost millions to Elamant, Crypto nana Beven then imi ndopomobvuma zvenyu kutengeswa.
I used to hate things that starts with Z like ZRP but now even zvinotanga na E. I heard even vana vechikoro no longer trust E-learning kkk. E-Commerce, E-wallet. But I need one person ari serious who was in this E-Creator thing to come and tell me what were they creating, or what they thought were creating. You can’t buy something online that is not delivered to you and expect to make money out of just clicking something that doesn’t exist. This is how blind Zimbabweans are. Ndikunzwei futi muchiseka Lobengula kuti he was tricked using sugar and a rocking chair.
I wonder where those people who blame Zanu PF for rigging its way into power every election get the guts to do so when most of the Zimbabwean people are duped easily like this. Kana vanhu vachibvuma kubirwa nePonzi scheme kuzoti Zanu PF zvayo, haa imi tikwanirei, stop blaming ZANU PF on your flaws.
Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to express my deepest condolences on the passing of the greatest faith leader Zimbabwe has ever had. Zimbabwe has lost a leader who contributed much to the development of this nation through education and preaching peace. RIP baba Guti, you fought a good fight. Vamwe tichichema Baba Guti and Chevrons imi busy kuchema E-Creator. However, hameno tichafambirepi na Panganai and his followers. Hanzi Java anoona kkk, that clown ma1, anyway, ndezvake naMwari. But the Chevrons wo futi, havana kumbosiyana neopposition party dzemuno, before elections munenge muchiti haa this time it’s a walk over, then election time unonzwa vakuti takabirirwa.
Ladies and gentlemen, as we go for elections, let’s choose wisely, lets just know that the second republic and CCC are opposite sides of the same coin, you cannot separate them but cannot view them at once, infact, zvakafanana kkk. I know maNerorists won’t agree with me and even varakashi4ED will not believe me but that’s the truth. Zanu PF says they are the new dispensation and they don’t want to be judged by what the party was doing since 1980. The same as CCC, they claim they are not MDC and cannot be judged by what happened in urban councils since 2000 when MDC took over. In fact, the two came about through coups. Trabablas couped uncle Bob paTV everyone and everyone was watching, similarly Nero couped Madam Khupe who was elected at congress paya takatarisa. She was lucky, they wanted to burn her alive kuBuhera uko. Akaponeswa nekunaya uswa hwakaramba kubata moto kkk. Vakafanana vanhu ava. Zanu PF believes in Sanctions while CCC believes in Corruption kkkk. But Mukomana akazoonera now, he is trying to charm the war vets and the security forces, hanzi Mapurisa edu, Masoja edu, maWar Wets edu, I hope they hear him and vote for him timbochinjawo imi kkk. But Mukati Trabablas na Nero havatambidzani midzanga at night?. At rallies they are always joking, nothing serious. I believe they smoke the same grade of mbanje that’s why their speeches are nothing but jokes, the difference is only the other one does dry jokes while the other does amusing ones kkk, ndomaPresident Manyama.
Now they are copying each other on promises and Tyson has also joined in. Trabablas started it by promising Epworth people title deeds. Vakazopiwa or Vakanzi after election? Tyson is promising the same if he wins which we all know he won’t, but in case he does, he is promising tittle deeds. The young boy also promised people in Chilonga the same. But I once heard some saying Nero is Chiwenga’s project, now Chiwenga was in Chilonga installing Chief Gezani, Nero followed next week, Achibva kuChilonga ndopaakauya akuisa golden chair paTwitter. Infact it was a royal Golden Chair. Chete you will accuse me of yep yepping too much so let me leave that story or ndorara zvangu ndavingwa nevakomana vema Nylon Suits and dark glasses. Ah, I had left out that one, Nero now has his own guys, I am yet to feel the material used to make the suits but they are also black.
Tine Mabhishu manyama atichakupai kkk, hanzi naTrabablas vakomana endai kuMt Darwin kune maBhishu manyama kkk. Why does a whole president look down upon us women like this. In this era where the president is supposed to be rallying the country towards development he is busy encouraging mjolo. Ndikafunga mabhishu ndobva ndafunga this one that made headlines last year, uya ainzi Susan Mutami, akazoenda nepiko. I heard akazongoperawo kunge mai Mujuru kkkk, Dr Amai Gucci Gire is following, havasi kubatika zvekumhanya.
Before I go zvangu kunokanga maputi angu for lunch, I want someone to school me team Mwonzora, Kasukuwere, and many others vari kumbonyatsopiwei chaizvo to be in the race? Because we can all agree kuti hapana anoluma pakati pavo unless we have another coup. All progressive Zimbabweans are supposed to leave their respective camps and join either Zanu or CCC so that the one who wins anonyatsohwina so that we deal with legitimacy issues, I hope you agree with me when I say it’s either ZANU or CCC, the rest are wasting their time and ours. Chete team racho here, Tyson is getting endorsement from CCC supporters who want him to split ZANU PF vote, the same applies to ZANU PF members who are supporting Mwonzora with the hope that he will poach some votes from Chamisa and I tell you these two are twins moramba. The only difference is that one is in and one is out. The one who is out is saying buda ndipindewo and vakapinda kare vari kublocker vamwe kkk. But ndarota zvaita, if you persuade me I will tell you my dream.
If anyone sees Egypt Dzinemunhenzva please pass my greetings. I heard he did not even to raise the needed 20k to be in the race unlike Linda who tried and tried kkk. Mboko Imboko.

VISET set to spearhead voter awareness in Mutare

Branton Matondo

MUTARE – Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) is set to kick start a voter education and awareness campaign in Mutare, a programme meant to heighten the right to vote among workers in the informal sector.
The outreach programme slated for major cities across Zimbabwe including Masvingo, Bulawayo, and Harare is meant to encourage vendors to vote as the nation prepares for August 23 elections.
Speaking to TellZim News VISET Executive Director Samuel Wadzai said informal workers need to vote because the final result affects their industry.
“We launched this year’s project because we want to encourage informal economy workers to go and vote since the voting registration process for this year’s election has already closed. We are encouraging them to vote through our structures called social economic champions,”
“It is important for them to vote because the quality of leadership that we have affects their lives as traders, their businesses as entrepreneurs and their general well-being as citizens of this country. We have met our social economic champions here in Mutare and we have shared tools and information that they need so that they encourage them to go out and vote.” said Wadzai
He went on to say from Mutare VISET delegation is heading to the ancient city of Masvingo to congregate with social economic champions.
“From Mutare we will head to Masvingo and engage our social economic champions with the idea of sharing with them what they will expect and what they need to do. Basically we want them to share information on the importance of going out to vote,” said Wadzai
He said they were expecting a huge voter turnout from people in the informal sector on the Election Day.
“We are expecting a huge turnout from the informal sector come the 23rd of August. It’s important for them and the country for development that we want to see.” he said
A 12 member delegation consisting of vendors and informal workers across Mutare were selected to push the project meant to start on 10th of July.
One local vendor who refused to be named said the exercise was relevant and acute amid a situation where vendors make up the bigger chunk of the informal sector.
“We welcome the exercise by VISET, it’s good that vendors realize their right to exercise to vote because they are contributing to Zimbabwe’s economy. Their voice needs to be heard by through voting and we are glad that this exercise will buttress that.”
VISET, which has so far amassed 8 years of experience has become a platform of engagement for workers in the informal economy and the actual authorities, be it government, municipalities and all government agencies.
The exercise is also meant to influence policy frameworks that will suit the current informal sector.

Junior High School boosts driving school fleet

Staff Reporter

MASVINGO – Junior High School, one of the most sought after private schools in Masvingo has boosted its fleet of driving school vehicles dedicated to the school to fulfil its promise of making sure that all pupils of age leave the school with a driver’s license.
The school Director Noah Marima confirmed the development and said he was happy that they have managed to fulfil a promise they made to parents of their leaners of purchasing vehicles dedicated to the school.
“We have bought four vehicles at Junior Driving School which will be mainly used for driving lessons at Junior High School as we promised the parents. We discovered that we needed more vehicles for the school so that when the admin gives time for leaners to do practical driving lessons, we take a bigger number at once unlike what we used to do. We used to assign one vehicles the learners and this means it would take more time for leaners to get a chance for practical lessons,” said Marima.
He said currently they had 41 leaners who were studying for provisional licenses and when they finish, more vehicles would be needed for practical lessons to ensure no classroom time is lost.
“We have 41 leaners who are doing theoretical lessons, after they get their provisional licenses, we would need more vehicles for them to do practical lessons and the new vehicles would be deployed there at once,” said Marima.
He added that they had quite a number of leaners who had already gotten their drivers licenses at the school.
Marima went on to say as the school continues to develop, the latest development was a swimming pool which he said is almost complete and is one of the biggest in the province.
“Our swimming pool which is one of the biggest in the province is 90 percent complete. The pool is mainly for sporting activities as we saw it fit to diversify sport to accommodate every leaner,” said Marima.
He went on to say Junior Primary School boarding facilities were almost complete and starting next year January they will be enrolling boarders.
“We are already registering boarders at Junior Primary School for next year January intake, everything will be ready by end of year or even before” said Marima.
Junior High and Junior Primary school are located close to Masvingo-Harare highway in the leafy suburb of Rhodene near the scenic Mangwandi Mountain.
