Only Zanu PF youths will get Govt jobs, Matuke warns

…claims MDC Alliance rigged 2018 elections

Brighton Chiseva

MASVINGO – Zanu PF national secretary for security, Lovemore
Matuke has warned that government will give jobs only to proven party supporters
with a proven track record, TellZim News can report.
Matuke was speaking at his party’s Masvingo Provincial Coordinating
Committee (PCC) meeting held at Victoria Junior primary school last Sunday,
September 29.
He lamented that Zanu PF faced another security threat
in the form of unemployment, saying the party was working towards making sure
that only its people got employed.
“We have a new security threat; when our youths are
not employed it’s a threat so we want to make sure that our people are employed.
“We were in China recently and they told us that they
needed a lot of teachers so we need to make sure that our degreed youths get
are given that opportunity. However, they have to be taught the party ideology
and those who do not want will not benefit because we have to make sure that
when they go they will serve our interests,” said Matuke, who is also the
Deputy Minister of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare.
Matuke also claimed that the MDC Alliance rigged the
2018 elections by issuing fake identity documents to people who were under the
legal age of voting.
Matuke claimed that since the Zanu PF security
department picked intelligence to that effect, the party was now doing a follow
up with the office of the registrar general.
“In 2018, thousands of young people below the age of
18 were issued with fake IDs that allowed them to register to vote. You would
see that this person is too young to vote but when you check the ID, you see
that he/she is eligible to vote
“We then did some investigations and noticed that some
people were given IDs but they are not in the registrar general’s data base,”
said Matuke.
He warned against complacency in terms of voter
registration saying the opposition had intensified its voter registration
programmes for next election.
“The opposition has intensified its voter registration
programmes and most of the young people registering to vote now belong to MDC
and we should do more than them. Let’s make sure that our people are
registering as we prepare for 2023 elections,” Matuke said.
Speaking at the same event, politburo member Josaya
Hungwe claimed that the MDC used the same strategy to rig the elections in
2008.
He claimed the MDC had connived with the Masvingo provincial
registry for the issuance of fake IDs to people sympathetic to the opposition
party.
Hungwe also said they should go and investigate the
recent Zaka East election and find out where the over 1000 people who voted for
the MDC ‘came from’.
“Go to Zaka and find out the villages of the people
who voted for the opposition so that when we go to 2023, those people will be
accounted for,” said Hungwe
Zanu PF national political commissar Victor
Matemadanda warned MPs against marginalising President Emmerson Mnangagwa in
their 2023 election campaigns.
“We will need a list of people who got more votes than
the President’s and unless we are told that they have reformed, we will not
allow them to contest in 2023 election. In 2023 we are targeting five million
votes and we can get them by making sure that each one of us recruits one new
voter because last time we got 2.5 million votes,” said Matemadanda.

Stephen Ephraem
Performing artistes in Chipinge South have organised a
peace gala that will take place at Checheche Shopping Complex and Chiororo
Sports Bar at Checheche on Saturday, September 28.
Running under the theme, ‘Arts for Peace’, the will
see artistes showcasing their talent in five categories namely poetry, drama,
Zim Dancehall, mbira and sungura.
“Artistes are ready to perform at the show and we have
managed to register a manageable number of them. Those that we registered held a
combined rehearsal at Chiororo Sports Bar on 14 September. Individual rehearsals
are still going on,” said chief organiser Hazvinei Masaanduka.
He
said he was humbled by the response from artistes.
“Artistes
in Chipinge south are keen to hold several of our peace galas. The artistes
range from teenagers who sing Zim Dancehall to elderly mbira players. I am
humbled by how they responded to our call,” said Musaandaka.
“Representatives
of the Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum (CSCJF), a non-profit organisation
spearheading peace initiatives in the country will be our guest of honour,”
said Musaandaka.
Chiororo
Sports Bar (Pamusharu) proprietor, Gideon Chiororo revealed told TellZim News
he donated the venue for the gala as part of his contribution to the promotion
of peace.
“Violence
is destructive to property so as a member of Checheche Business Association we
support any peace programme and community development initiatives,” said
Chiororo.

I have no underwear, Masvingo woman embarrasses Matemadanda

Defence and War
Veterans Affairs deputy minister Victor Matemadanda was last week left
embarrassed after a female Masvingo resident told him straight to his face that
she had no underwear as she could no longer afford it.
Matemadanda was in
Masvingo to assess the consumer situation in face of rising prices fueled by
high inflation.
Matemadanda embarked on
a walk-about, talking to ordinary members of the public about their situation
and asking them to tell him what they wanted him to report to President
Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Most of the people who
spoke to Matemadanda were, however, hostile and many told him that they had no
faith in government’s capability to solve the economic crisis.
At Pick n Pay
Supermarket, Matemadanda met his worst embarrassment when a woman told him she
had no underwear as it had become an unaffordable luxury for her.
“I am a domestic worker
and I earn RTGS$100 which cannot buy me enough of the most basics of life.
Prices of sugar and cooking oil have risen beyond my reach. Right now I don’t
even have underwear because I cannot afford it,” the woman said.
Despite a barrage of
criticism from many other residents, Matemadanda maintained a brave face,
promising that government will look into their concerns.

Serious chaos at AFM Chivhu DLC

…factions
lock each other out of church premises
Elliot Jinjika
CHIVHU – The factional fights
bedeviling the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe escalated to extreme
levels at the Devotional Life Centre (DLC) last Sunday when rival factions
blocked each other from contacting church services.
At
national level, the factionalism pits two rival groups; the anti-reform faction
led by Reverend Cossam Chiyangwa and the reformists group led by Reverend Amon
Madawo.
Both
parties have so far failed to amicably co-exist despite the recent declaration
by the High Court awaiting a declaratory order by the Supreme Court.
At
the Chivhu DLC, TellZim News saw scores of believers scattered outside the church
premises as the gate had been locked by the Madawo loyalists.
DLC
Chivhu acting vice chairperson Osbi Nyikadzino, who is aligned to the
anti-reform Chiyangwa faction, told TellZim News the other group breached an
earlier agreement to share the premises.
“The
Reformists did not give us an opportunity to use the premises and we persisted
in vain until we decided to write a letter to their pastor Rev Nzombe and the
non-executive chairman Elder Sithole but they both did not respond.
“It
remained like that as we only used the venue on free days but they soon started
locking the church altogether. On Friday (September 20), we went for a service and
found the venue open but we were later shocked when the police came and told us
we had unlawfully entered into the premise and a report had already been made
by our reformist brothers,” said Nykadzino.
Sources
said the police, however, had dismissed allegations by the reformists that the
other group had broken into the church, stolen the PA System and some building
materials.
The
police, however, summoned representatives of both factions the following
morning but the reformists did not turn up.
To
resolve the matter, the Chiyangwa-led faction agreed with the police to lock up
the premises until an agreement could be made. On Sunday, members of the Madawo
faction came to church as usual but only to find the premises locked.
“We
were shocked to discover that the church was locked. Even now the church is
still locked. We feel this is ungodly evenly though we have not yet made an
agreement,” said an elder who is aligned to the Madawo group.
Later
on, members of the Madawo faction made a police report claiming they had sole
rights to the premises but they were advised to co-exist with their rivals as
per the High Court ruling of September 16.

Man forced to drink 2 litres of cooking oil

ZAKA
– A Jerera man was recently left severely nauseated after two robbers forced
him to drink a half-full two-litre container of cooking oil.
Jameson Zihura, of House Number
1236 Jerera, was forced marched from his house by Luck Hotera (45) and Adiel
Mureza (23) who then took him to another house where they forced him to gulp
down the raw oil.
This
came out in the Zaka Magistrates’ Court where Hotera and Mureza were facing
four charges of robbery, three of assault, two of unlawful entry and extortion.
The State’s case was that on August
18, Hotera and Mureza used intentional violence on Zihura by hitting him
several with open hands, kitchen chairs, booted feet and forced him to drink
cooking oil.
They then took $1000, two SunPower
satchels, two cellphones (Mobicel and Nokia), black Tennis shoes and black
tekkies.
Magistrate Florence Nago convicted
them on all the charges they faced and sentenced them to 12 months in prison.
The magistrates, however, suspended five months of the sentence, leaving the
duo to serve an effective seven months in jail.
Part
of the charges faced by the two included breaking into a house and robbing Precious
Manyemba of chairs she had bought on credit from Hotera’s girlfriend.
Hotera
and Mureza locked the victim and her colleague before robbing her to recover
the money owed by Manyemba to Hotera’s girlfriend.
Hotera
threatened to take away the chairs if she could not pay, forcing a fearful Manyemba
to give him the money.
On
another day, the duo severely assaulted Memory Chipanera after breaking into
the house to carry out a robbery.

ED cooking oil stolen in Mwenezi

Cephas Shava
MWENEZI – Some cooking oil released to the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) under the Presidential Free Inputs Scheme for distribution to cotton farmers upon delivering their bales of cotton to the organisation has found its way onto the black market, TellZim News can reveal.
Several boxes containing 750ml bottles of cooking oil were recently stolen from Cottco’s Rutenga depot, allegedly by some workers.
The bottles were recently recovered after they were seen being sold in a shop in Rutenga growth point.
Although no immediate comment could be obtained from Cottco management, TellZim News is reliably informed that the matter is now under police investigations.
“Several boxes of 24x750ml cooking oil went missing at the depot. The matter came to light after some containers were found displayed at a shop in Rutenga. The matter is now under police investigations,” said a source.
Other sources said every cotton farmer was supposed to get a bottle for each bale delivered to Cottco but many farmers failed to get anything. It is believed that some corrupt Cottco employees stole the cooking oil and channelled it to the black market.
Cottco has already started calling farmers who failed to get anything due to the theft to come forward and receive their share.

New regulations tighten control on macadamia nuts

0

CHIPINGE

Macadamia nuts growers and merchants can find themselves behind bars if they
fail to register with Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) as demanded by new
regulations.
AMA regularises the
production, marketing and processing of agricultural products in Zimbabwe.
Statutory Instrument
138 of 2019 (Agricultural Marketing Authority, Macadamia Nuts Regulations) forces
growers, buyers and processors of macadamia nuts to register with the authority,
failure of which can attract penalties.
Rose Ruzario, a
Manicaland inspector who manned an AMA stand at the Chipinge Agricultural Show
from 05 – 08 September, told TellZim News the regulations were meant to ensure
that both the farmer and the country derived maximum benefits from the produce.
“Every person who
intends to grow, sell, buy or process macadamia nuts has to be regulated to do
so. Farmers must get grower numbers and merchants must be given licenses to
trade in macadamia nuts. A fee is charged for the process,” said Ruzario.
She said the new
regulations were meant to protect the industry which has the potential of
making a more substantial contribution to the economy.
“There were a lot of
irregularities before the introduction of the regulations but the industry is
now guided by some controls.
“Farmers are expected
to declare the size of their macadamia orchards which helps to estimate
production from each grower. The authority can keep a record of what has been
sold and exported,” she said.
She said any breach of
the regulation would attract penalties against the offender.
“Inspectors are allowed
by law to seize unregistered macadamia nuts and offenders can be taken to the
court on criminal charges and they would be liable to a fine not exceeding
level 4 or imprisonment not exceeding three months or both,” she said.

World Peace Summit Calls for Collective Effort

0

To commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the WARP
Summit, international peace organization Heavenly Culture World Peace,
Restoration of Light (HWPL) together with International Peace Youth Group
(IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) held different events
across the world with 300,000 participants in over 166 locations in 113
countries including Germany, New Zealand, Nigeria, Zambia and the Republic of
South Africa throughout September.
The main event was held in South Korea
from the 18th till the 19th of September in support of
the United Nations’ International Peace Day celebrated on the 21st September,
which calls on all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to
contribute towards building a culture of peace.
In his welcome speech, Chairman of
HWPL, Mr. Man Hee Lee reminded the guests about the determination they had to
ensure peace is a reality, five years ago when they drafted the international
law peace: “On the day of the peace summit 5 years ago, politicians determined
to support the drafting an international law for peace, religious leaders
pledged to make religions one under peace, and social representatives promised
to encourage and support these efforts.”
This year’s summit, in particular,
addressed the “Legislate Peace (LP)” project, a global citizen-led peace
movement that includes the “Peace Letter” campaign, “Sign your Support”
campaign, and “Peace Walk.” The LP project urges national leaders to support a
legally binding international framework for peace and the cessation of wars.
The 10 articles and 38 clauses of the
DPCW – Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War – were drafted with the intent
of representing marginalized voices of all those yearning for peace at the same
time calling the united efforts of states to practice the principles of the
Declaration, ultimately ceasing all conflicts and hostilities and facilitating
peace in a cultural asset.
Earlier this month, 350 participants came together to
celebrate the commemoration at the Centre for the Book in Cape Town, South
Africa. As a part of the Peace Letter campaign, where thousands of youth wrote
peace letters to their Heads of State urging for the adoption of an
international peace law for peace, the responses from the President of
Seychelles and the President of Mozambique was read out during the event
.
Some of
the solutions proposed by the youth include; preventative measures such as
peace education as a curriculum in schools, developing a culture of peace
through collaborative governance and the promotion of a new international law
for peace. In South Africa, these solutions remain unheard as the youth found
themselves swept amid the most violent scourge of xenophobic attacks, murder, and
raping of our women.
In a
letter addressed to South African President Ramaphosa, thirteen-year-old
Liesbeek Primary School student from Mitchell’s Plein Kiara Keffers highlighted
the current surge in gender violence: “Women should not live in fear of being
physically or sexually abused. Children should not live in fear of being
kidnapped, killed or trafficked around the world.” Keffers also encouraged the
president ‘to wage the war against abuse to women and children by signing the
Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War to prevent and end violence against
our people.’
Up to
date, IPYG has received numerous responses to their peace letters. These
include Former President of Malawi Joyce Banda, the First Lady of Namibia as
well as President Danny Faure of the Republic of Seychelles.

Manicaland traditional leaders accused of extorting from widows

0

Munyaradzi Goche

NYANGA – A traditional
leader has been forcing relief aid beneficiaries – mostly widows to share their
food with his friends and relatives who are ineligible to benefit from the
programme, it has emerged.
The
Zimbabwe Political Victims Foundation Trust (ZPVFT) coordinator Nyasha Gombe
has since launched a police report against Kamucheka village head Andrew
Chitaka together with his assistant Morgan Dzenga.
Nyasha Gombe is accusing the two of theft and bullying.
He alleges that on August 21, the two ordered at least 30 Action Aid
beneficiaries in Nyanga Ward 2 to give up $60 to select friends and relatives
who are not on the aid list.
Beneficiaries
of the Action Aid relief programme get $180 every month to cushion them against
extreme poverty and deprivation.
Among
the victims of Chitaka and Dzenga’s alleged extortion is Mariam Teta (60), a
window who cares for her orphaned granddaughter.
She
was reportedly forced to hand over $60 to newly-wedded Gabriel Nyakatsapa, who
is close to the traditional leader.
Gombe
said he filed a report at Ruwangwe Police Station Sunday, claiming the
extortionate practice was getting out of hand.
He
said his organisation was deeply concerned at the unethical behaviour.
“As
ZPVFT, we are deeply concerned at this abuse of authority by traditional
leaders and we have since made a police report to protect the rights of these
people,” Gombe said.
Efforts
to get a confirmation of police report were unsuccessful due to bad network
connection.
The
incident open sheds more light on traditional leaders’ influence on aid as they
are often accused of including specific individuals and households on aid lists
while excluding more deserving people on such basis as political correctness.
