Following a conflict between Chivi Rural District (RDC) Ward 20 villagers and Murowa Diamonds, Cllr Alec Nhundu said he does not see any problems that Murowa
Diamonds is posing on the villagers.
Villagers
had held a meeting where they made it clear that if their legal representation they
are receiving from Matutu and Mureri Legal
Practitioners does not take Murowa Diamonds to the negotiation table they will
demonstrate.
Nhundu however said he has a mutual relationship with Murowa
Diamonds and its operations are working towards the government’s 2030 vision of
growing exports in the mining sector from $3.2 billion attained last year to
US$12 billion by 2030.
“I am working with Murowa Diamonds despite the conflicts they
are having with the villagers. I am happy with the developments that the mine
came with. I am willing to educate the villagers that Murowa’s presence in our
area is not a burden but a privilege since we are all working towards vision
2030.
He added Murowa Diamonds has developed the Sese Communal
Lands as they have erected a number of boreholes taking away the water crisis
that the villagers had lived with for years.
The boreholes are not only benefiting the Sese villagers only
but people in the surrounding villages.
The boreholes that were drilled by Murowa Diamonds also
benefits Danhamombe High School and St Simon Zhara Primary School as tap water
is not adequately supplied.
Murowa Diamonds also consult the village authorities
including the councillor before recruiting new employees so that they notify
the village youths who might be interested in time to prepare for the job
interviews.
 After recruitments the
youths are given three months contracts working in the diamond mines and are
well paid hence reducing the crime rate in the community as they will be
occupied.

Zanu PF retains Masvingo North Ward 1

…sets sight on Zaka East

Upenyu

Zanu PF has continued to prove their dominance in the
rural areas after retaining the Masvingo North’s Ward 1 seat in a local
authority by-election held last Saturday.
The Masvingo North local authority by-election was
held on the same day with two national assembly by-elections in Mangwe and Glen
View South.
Zanu PF won both rural by-elections of Mangwe and Ward
1 but lost in the urban Glen View South.
 In Ward 1, two
candidates from Zanu PF and MDC battled it out with the former emerging
victorious by a big margin from the little votes cast.
Zanu PF’s Richard Kudakwashe Murambiwa polled 1 166
votes against MDC’s Escot Chawatama paltry 334.
Zec Masvingo provincial election officer Zex Pudurai
said the election was held in a peaceful environment and all the nine polling
stations opened in time.
“The environment was peaceful and as Zec we were ready
for the elections. We had a total of nine polling stations and all opened by
7am,” said Pudurai.
Pudurai said they were gearing up for the Zaka East
national assembly by-election which is slated for September 21.
“We have a national assembly by-election in Zaka East
on September 21 and we are working towards that now,” said Pudurai.
Zanu PF Masvingo provincial political commissar Jevas
Masosota said their party’s victory shows that people had confidence in Zanu PF
and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“Zanu PF is the popular party and our people know
that. They will not be fooled by these other political parties because they
know who has their best interests at heart.
“Other political parties will just be wasting their
time contesting Zanu PF because they know they have nothing to offer to the
people. Zanu PF ndeye chitenderano and our people keep showing that they will
stand with their party,” said Masosota.
Masosota said they are now focusing on retaining Zaka
East which fell vacant after the former legislator Katson Gumbwanda died in
June.
“Our sights are now set on retaining Zaka East. We
have promised President Mnangagwa that we are bringing the seat home and that
is what we are going to do. We have a good candidate in Clemence Chiduwa and
the people are standing firmly behind him.
“Nothing is going to stop Chiduwa from winning this
seat for Zanu PF,” said Masosota.
Masosota said they were expecting Vice President Kembo
Mohadi to come and address a rally in Zaka East on September 18.
Chiduwa will go toe to toe with MDC’s Derick Charamba,
NCA’s Clemence Chavarika and FreeZim Congress’ Lazarus Mubango.

Masvingo Zifa to support professional coaching

The
Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) in Masvingo says it will soon start offering
soccer coaching courses for level 1 and 2 at Victoria High School in order to
improve best practice and standards in the game.
Speaking
to TellZim News recently, Zifa Masvingo provincial class coordinator Cleopatra Matinure
said the organisation was committed to make the programme a roaring success.
She
said Level 1 course will be held from September 16 – 17 September,
with beneficiaries required to pay $260. The Level 2 course will be held on
September 23-30 at a cost of $300 per every participant.
She
also said that they were targeting teachers who are coaching soccer in schools
and others who are passionate about improving their skills.
“We
have seen it important to train our coaches in the province and we are
targeting teachers who are in charge of their schools’ football teams.
Universities, colleges and other members who are passionate about football are
also being encouraged to visit Zifa offices and register for the project so
that they do not miss this good chance,” said Matinure.
Matinure
also highlighted that the courses were inclusive and particularly cared about
encouraging women to take up the opportunity and fight the heavy gender
imbalances in football coaching.
“We
want women to participate in these courses so that we can move towards gender
equality in football. The game is not for men only and we want women to acquire
top positions in professional football coaching,” she said.

Churches call for tolerance, justice for peace to prevail

…deploy peace
ambassadors in communities

Tinaani

GWERU
Some
faith-based organisations have urged people and political players to uphold
tolerance and forgiveness for peace and reconciliation to prevail in the country.
Speaking at the Churches
Convergence on Peace Conference (CCOP) recently hosted by the Zimbabwe
Christian Alliance (ZCA) in partnership with Zimbabwe Divine Destiny (ZDD),
Bishop Ancelimo Magaya said if leaders were told the truth, they would sit down
and dialogue.
“We must come to truth
telling, we must know what triggered the conflict which led to most of the
violent encounters we experienced. We must understand who ordered people to be killed,
shops to be destroyed and looted, no one has answered such questions.
“Unless we get to know
some of these answers we will never taste peace in our nation as a people. When
God launched his redemption programme, he had noticed a lot on the human mind
so we need to dig up the truth. Another issue is of justice which should be
applied fairly and universally. If justice is executed, peace and tolerance will
be embraced. Let this be known to everyone including our leaders despite which
political party one belongs,” said Magaya.
There have been many but
so far futile calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and MDC Alliance leader
Nelson Chamisa – the main political protagonists in the country – to sit down
and find common ground on how to tackle the country’s debilitating political
and economic crises.
ZCA director Useni
Sibanda said the church was the pivot of peace initiatives starting at ward
level.
“We realised that the church
has a pivotal role to play. Capacitating pastors will help in the peace-building
process in our communities and country as this can even start at community
level.
“Most of the peace
ambassadors originated from such capacity-building programmes and as churches, we
will continue to work with political parties so that people understand the importance
of peace in our environment. We need to work on various strategies to continue with
our drive for unity and reconciliation,” said Sibanda.
Mashonaland Central
CCOP representative, Pastor Maxwell Jiri said teamwork was essential in
engaging both the victims and the perpetrators of violence.
“As a province, we
dealt with a lot of issues regarding the issues of conflict and violence. We
did it as a team because we believed in combined efforts and we managed to
cover many districts. As you know, we are also affected a by the issue of Mashurugwi;
the machetes gangs who are causing a lot of unrest and attacking people in
informal mining communities,” said Jiri.
He said they were also
working to find ways to prevent cholera outbreaks now that the country is very
close to the rainy season.
“We also worked on the
issue of politicisation of food aid; a practice which has affected the welfare
of many people in the area. I am glad we managed to solve some of the issues,”
Jiri said.
The event ran under
the theme, “Building a Peaceful Zimbabwe for the Present and All Future
Generations’.

Businesses fighting ED, says Matemadanda

…threatens to implement price controls

Upenyu

MASVINGO
Zanu PF has said
it has had enough with businesses who are hiking prices on daily basis saying
they are forcing their hand to adopt price control mechanisms which was not
President Mnangagwa’s desire.
Addressing Zanu PF supporters at a recent campaign rally
ahead of the Zaka East parliamentary by-election slated for September 21, Zanu
PF national political commissar Victor Matemadanda said the business community
was being used by the opposition to make people suffer so that they could revolt
against government.
“We said we are going to increase salaries for civil
servants and shops are busy increasing prices. What is the logic behind those
price hikes?
“What it means is that businesses are fighting
President Mnangagwa and his development initiatives. President Mnangagwa did
not want price controls but these businesses are forcing our hand.
“It is not because we can’t control the prices but
it’s because we wanted the businesses to operate in a free environment which
benefits them and the consumers. This has however been taken as a sign of
weakness by these business people.
“If businesses do not revise their manners, we are
going back to the drawing board because when we say let us work together, some
are being used by our enemies who cheer them on to increase prices so that
people can revolt against the government,” said Matemadanda.
Matemadanda said Zanu PF will never fail to put the
businesses ‘in their place’, claiming government was just giving them a rope long
enough to hang themselves
“We want to warn all businesses that if we are quiet
it does not mean that we are stupid. We have fought and liberated this country
so we will not be given sleepless nights by a mere business. If we agree to
implement price controls, let nobody cry foul.
“There are those in Zanu PF who run businesses and are
at the forefront of hiking prices. The government should not be troubled by
people in the ruling party who are busy profiteering at the expense of the
people,” said Matemadanda.
In the Zaka East by-election, Zanu PF will be represented
by Clemence Chiduwa who is battling it out against the MDC Alliance’s Derick
Charamba.

Buffalo Range Air Traffic booms in 2019

0

…surpasses 2018 by
122 plane landings
Beatific Gumbwanda
CHIREDZI – Year 2019 has so far
recorded a notable increase in air traffic movement at Buffalo Range International
Airport as compared to 2018, with the arrival of chartered planes signaling an
improving tourism industry.
Travellers are mainly
tourists visiting Malilangwe Trust Conservancy, Save Valley Conservancy, and Gonarezhou
National Park.
A significant number of
travellers are also Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ)’s business partners.
Civil Aviation Authority of
Zimbabwe (CAAZ) corporate public relations and communications officer Anna
Julia Hungwe told TellZim News the period between January and July 2019 had
seen a marked rise in the arrival of international guests compared to the same
period last year.
She said 641 planes have landed
at the airport so far this year compared 519 planes that landed during the same
period last year.
“Capacity of planes is
not easy to determine given that there are no scheduled services at Buffalo
Range Airport. All movements at the airport are charter services hence they
change equipment depending on the demands of the day. Traffic is dominated by
tourists and people engaging in business,” said Hungwe.
In January 2019, 44 planes
with 128 passengers landed at Buffalo Range Airport while 36 landed in February
bringing in 69 passengers.
March saw 71 planes with 70
passengers, April had 65 planes with 80 passengers, May had 114 planes with 264
passengers, June had 159 with 395 passengers and July came with 152 planes
carrying 438 passengers.
Buffalo Range Airport ranks
fourth in the country in terms of passenger volumes; with Robert Gabriel Mugabe,
Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo and Victoria Falls International Airport coming first,
second and third respectively.
In 2015, the airport’s
terminal building received a facelift made possible by a Public Private Partnership
undertaken by the CAAZ, Malilangwe Trust and THZ.
She said plans were being
made for further upgrades of the airport to improve capacity of the runway and
other facilities.
“There are long term
plans to further upgrade the airport and its facilities. The runway length is
1.578 metres long and 30 metres wide – good enough to land medium-sized
aircraft. At the moment, plans are to increase capacity at the airport through
collaboration and destination marketing,” she said.

Youth devises new method of pre-treating, processing mineral ores

                                                           Musapingura
…ground-breaking research to be a game changer in mineral
processing
Knowledge Mhlanga
CHIPINGE – A year 21-year-old University of
Zimbabwe (UZ) undergraduate final-year student from Musapingura village has
shone at the tertiary institution after receiving multiple successive awards as
the best student of the year 2019.
Vision Musapingura, who is studying Metallurgical Engineering
with the university’s School of Earth and Mineral Sciences in the Faculty of
Engineering broke the record by becoming the only undergraduate student to come
first in multiple disciplines.
He won the Research Impact Award 2019 from the African
Student Association (ASA) after showcasing the best Research Project in
Zimbabwe.
Apart from that, Musapingura scooped the Best Orally
Presented Innovative Project at the 2019 University of Zimbabwe Research Week held
on 05 – 10 August, as well as the most Innovative Undergraduate Project in the
Engineering Department.
The mineral processing researcher has developed a new method
of pre-treating and processing double refractory gold ores as well as
establishing a way of reducing the hardness of ores in general, whether gold ore,
platinum ore or chromium ore. He has also managed to discover and characterise
the carbon used in gold mines for absorption.
The young star told TellZim News that he put a lot of effort
in his research and was pleased that the result had promised to be a great
problem-solver in the mining industry.
“Many good mines have discovered double refractory gold
ores that are not amenable to the conventional gold processing method but my
newly-designed method can process this ore thereby increasing the company’s
production and subsequently the amount of gold delivered to Zimbabwe’s Gold
Bank, Fidelity Gold Refineries and Printers.
“My characterisation of carbon is also important in ensuring
that pure gold bullion is delivered to Fidelity. Moreover, the reduction in
hardness of ore is a good way of reducing expenses to the company as well as
conserving electricity,” said Musapingura.
He said his innovations were an effort to contribute to the
transformation of the country through locally-generated scientific solutions.
“I want my contribution to help the country transform into an
upper-middle income economy by year 2030 through maximisation of gold
production. My findings must become a real mining and metallurgical industrial
problem solver and I personally hope to see the Research Council of Zimbabwe,
SIRDIC and all innovation hubs at universities fully-capacitated to enhance our
researches towards development of mining in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Musapingura went to Renco Mine Primary School, Gaza Government
Primary School and Mount Selinda High School which awarded him the best overall
student in the year 2013.

Mapombi goes to SA to fight xenophobia

0

Mapombi is a peace loving woman and news coming from
across the Limpopo is very disturbing. Where is the spirit of Ubuntu? We are
one people with the same beautiful skin so why are we killing each other? As an
African woman, Mapombi should be able to go to any African country and feel at
home not zvatiri kuona paJoza izvi. We want to promote each other’s happiness;
not each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this
world there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for
everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way.
Why South Africa why?
Does South Africa even have a police force or even the
army? If their police is over-powered why can’t they deploy the army just like
mukoma ED kkkk? Ko ED hadzinonoki kutumira masoja kuti azvambure vanhu. Ivo
vachizvamburika. President Cyril Ramaphosa should borrow some few pages from
ED’s playbook. South Africans lack discipline and vanoda mboma. Ramaphosa
should ask for our police and soldiers because vana mukoma havatambi nevanhu.
Treating savagery with kid gloves does not work. Hazviitwi kuno kuZimbabwe
izvi. We cannot be talking about xenophobia now.
We need to tolerate because tese tiri pakutsvaga. Our
people are there not because they want to be there, NO! They are running away
from Zanuphobia here and hunting in foreign lands. Please tolerate our people
or we will send our military boys to teach you a lesson you will never forget.
Our people are ‘taking away all the good jobs’ because they are hard workers.
Zanu PF has hardened these people and are willing do to anything to get that
extra cent. The only thing that Zimbos are not good at is violence. Haana hasha
mazivanhu aya that is why Zanu ichiita zvainoda nesu topedzisira tatizira Joni.
Zvino Joni kwacho torohwazve here vakomana. Ndakunotora zvangu passport
ndiendeko kuJozi kwacho ndinogwa nawo mapenzi awo. Idzo dziri kubuda here
passport mazuvano? Kkk, ndakahwa naMai Chitsa kwahi unotomirira gore rose kuti
emergency passport ibude. Haa kuitawo here uku? Where is the foreign currency
to buy the consumables? I heard yose yakaperera kunotenga gear yemapurisa eku
riot kkkk. Now, let’s send our fully-equipped police to go and stop xenophobia.
Ndiyo inonzi double trouble. Mai votsva musana mwana
otsva dumbu. Mapombi is getting tired of eating rotten bananas kuno kuChitima
and I was thinking of going kuJoni maybe ndingawanawo basa but nezviri kuitika
izvi ndakufungs kaviri. Plus ED and his goons are no longer giving us passports
hanzi tamburai muri muno. But South Africans vakajaidzwa vakajaira, how can you
burn down a whole car dealership run by foreigners who also employ some South
Africans? These foreigners are paying their taxes mind you. Taxes which are
helping develop the country. Chete kungoti in South Africa anyone can just buy
a gun saka police haiiti dzungu kana chabvondoka kkkk unofira halaz.
It’s always a fair fight between the police in Muzanzi
and its people because they all have guns. They fight to death and they all
respect each other during the fight because one simple mistake can send you six
feet under. The reason why mapurisa and masoja edu kuno kuZimbabwe achibuda
shavi kurova vanhu kana vaita misarinya is because they know they have an upper
hand. It’s always an unfair fight. Chamisa anoti handei kustreet isu tine
maplacards against people with guns, button sticks, water cannons, tear gas,
dogs etc etc and he expects us to win kkkkk. Joni hakuna izvozvo that is why
vanhu vachiita zvavanoda. Ukaenda nedzungu unodzoka uri mucoffin.
But ndakanzwa kuti Chamisa kanenge kakutanga kuita
hasha manje. Hanzi kuGlein View uko Chamisa chakati ED should know that we can
also use guns. I heard there were cheers to this message as many believe Zanu
PF haidi kutambwa chiramu nayo. Let me make this clear though, kana mafurirana
kubata pfuti ini Mapombi ndoita border jumper ndodzoka magadzirisa zvinhu. It
is not a crime to be a coward sometimes because I would rather be that than a
dead hero. After all, kana mafa panofanira kuzoita vanosara vachitonga nyika
iyi. Ndipo patinozodzoka hedu isu vana Mapombi toti we died for this country
kkkkk. Zvepfuti itai moga vakomana. Usanyengera vanhu Chamisa iwe!
Asi varume imi we need some level of seriousness. I
heard ED hired a US$30 000 per hour jet from Dubai for his Japan trip. He took
with him forty people who each received a daily allowance of between US$1 500
and US$4 000 per day for four days. These are the same people who did not even
have notebooks during meetings. They are being paid real money not bond notes.
Am I the only one who is angry at this? Haaaa Zanu chiwororo. I wonder why they
could not take me with them. I could have put those allowances to good use and
perhaps I could have used the money to start kabusiness kanguwo ndotangawo kukwidza
maprices zvinoita vamwe. Yatova game yekukaurisana iyi. Zimbabweans are now
fleecing one another because of the poor leadership kutop uko.  I once said Zanu PF is a very good party but
the people in it are all very bad. They are very selfish and we make their day
by our suffering.
I feel sorry for students who are now the new cash cow
in town. Landlords are charging exorbitant rents on these poor souls. Have pity
on the students please, their parents are also civil servants like you. I heard
there is a lot of corruption at GZU accommodation office and I wonder if it has
not reached the eyes of the good Professor yet. Your students are suffering
Prof and are open to abuse please help them. I have said enough regai
ndinokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch. Mboko imboko.

Police officers in trouble for fraudulent cattle clearances

0

Courage Dutiro
Two
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers stationed at Masvingo Rural Police
station are in hot soup after they were implicated in the falsification of
information on livestock clearance forms.
It
has been learnt that Tafadzwa Gumiso (25) of Rujeko A and Abel Mubaiwa (30) of
Sisk, Mucheke are facing charges of criminal abuse of duty as a public officer
as defined in Section 174 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform ]
Act, chapter 9:23.
The
two were attached at ZRP Masvingo Rural Station Anti-Stock theft Unit in 2017.
Part
of their duties was offering livestock-clearance services which they allegedly
abused and helped cattle thieves to escape detection.
A
docket under ZRP Masvingo Rural  CR numbers
91-92/08/19 shows that the matter come to light when Lawrence Chisango of Plot
2 Wayne farm, made a report that his cattle were stolen by his former plot
manager Cuthbert Goremusandu during his absence.
“Investigations
were instituted when a report was made. It was discovered that out of 80 cattle
which the complainant had left at his farm, only 17 were remainED. The
investigations further revealed that Cuthbert Goremusandu sold cattle to the
community within and around Masvingo.
“Cuthbert
Goremusandu is at large. The way the cattle were being cleared from Lawrence
Chisango’s farm became a subject of enquiry thus ZRP Forms 392 used to clear
the cattle were retrieved and it was discovered that some of them were
completed contrary to the laid down procedures and even contained false
information,” reads part of the docket.
It
is alleged that Gumiso on May 17, 2017, the two police officers completed ZRP
form 392 by approving false particulars of the owner and false address of where
the animals were kept.
This
enabled the clearance of three heifers and one cow from Chisango’s farm to
Temba Chakwa, of Plot 2 Sale Camp, Stop Over, Masvingo.
On
May 24, 2017, Mubaiwa completed ZRP livestock clearance form by endorsing false
particulars of seller and false particulars of the village head and it led to
the clearance of an ox for slaughter at Chisango’s farm.
The
duo recently appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Candice Kasere where they were
granted $50-00 bail each and remanded to September 27, 2019 for trial.

Zimbabwe bids to host inter-faiths parliament

ZVISHAVANE
– Zimbabwe hopes to host the Parliament of the World’s Religions for the years
2021, 2024 and 2027 if stakeholders unite behind the prospective bid, TellZim
News has learnt.
Inter-Faith Council of
Zimbabwe president, Rev G. Mwanza who is also PWR ambassador, said hosting the
institution would help the country in many ways.
“We are appealing to
the country’s religious community and the Inter-Faith Council for financial
assistance and moral support in our quest to host this parliament. We are
convinced that it would be good for the image of our country.
“It will enhance
revenue generation in the tourism industry as more than 30 000 people from 80
nations will attend. It will also market the country and boost the confidence
of investors,” said Mwanza.
He said the gathering
would be marked by such activities as lectures, presentation of academic papers,
seminars, panel discussions as well as religious and spiritual observances.
“The parliament also
focuses on climate change, hate speech, violence and other forms of conflict.
Zimbabwe needs revival and together as a nation, we can make a difference. It
is a time to put differences aside in order to uplift the nation,” said Mwanza.
He also said the
parliament ran under the theme, ‘There Will be Peace on Earth when there is
Peace Amongst the World’s Religions.’
The parliament was
founded in 1893 in Chicago, United States of America (USA) and, alongside the
Colombian Exhibition, is considered to be the birth of the inter-faith movement
which aims to reveal the beauty of Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity and
other religions.
After a century-old break
in 1993, the second parliament was re-launched in Chicago while some gatherings
were hosted by other countries.
Some of the leaders in
the Honorary International Advisers structure are the Dalai Lama; Tenzin
Gyasto, Ella Gandhi and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
Its obligation is to
bring the world’s religions to help fight against war, human rights violations,
poverty, racism, discrimination, abuse of women and children as well as the
disregard for the natural environment.
It also focuses on
issues to do with women and youth empowerment.
