MWENEZI – An aide with Chief Chitanga’s security team was recently brought before magistrate Honest Musiiwa charged with stock theft involving a goat.
Joseph Rusenga (57) of village Kutanga under Chief Chitanga was convicted of the offense while his alleged accomplice Tiyelani Chauke (24) was acquitted at the close of the State’s case.
Rusenga was sentenced to 12 months in jail, but two of them were conditionally suspended for five years. The remaining 10 months were set aside on condition he performed 350 hours of community service at Chitanga Primary School.
In his defence, Rusenga said it was Chauke who was responsible, saying he simply accompanied him to sell the goat unaware that it had been stolen.
Witnesses, however, contradicted him and said they suspected Rusenga could be behind the disappearance of several goats in the area.
The State’s case, as presented by Caroline Pasipanodya, was that on August 22, 2018 at around 09:00hrs, the two accused persons connived to steal Emmanuel Chinyoka’s goat from the veld.
They took it to Lundi Business Centre where they sold it to Greatman Mandiva for $37 but people who knew the goat had been stolen quickly alerted the owner and the goat was recovered.

Josiah Tungamirai, V. G Musungwa and E.J.M Zvobgo are among the street names that residents in the
developing suburb of Clipsham Views will see if current naming proposals by
City of Masvingo’s health, housing and environmental services committee are
passed.
E.J.M Zvobgo stands for
Eddison Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo who died in August 2003 at the age of 68. He served
as in defferent cabinet portfolios as Member of Parliament (MP) for
Masvingo South for many years after independence.
Tungamirai, who died in
August 2005 at the age of 56, was a retired air chief marshal who commanded the
Air Force of Zimbabwe until 1992 when he was replaced by Perence Shiri. He
later served as Gutu North MP and as a cabinet minister.
V.G Musungwa is short
for Vitalis Gava Musungwa Zvinavashe who died in March 2009 at the age of 65.
Zvinavashe, who hailed from Bikita, took over as Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF)
commander from the now late Solomon Mujuru in July 1994 and served until his
retirement in December 2003.
All the three men
fought in the liberation struggle in their different capacities and were
members of the ruling Zanu PF party.
Other heroes like Sheba
Tavarwisa, T.T Zawaira, Helen McGhie and E. Nkala have also had their names included on the list.
Residents can also
expect to see such street names as Rupiza, Maheu, Geja, Ndari, Mbambaira,
Chirugu, Bonga, Nhanga, Rukukwe and Gangauta.
“The names were
suggested by the Infrastructural Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ)…. The committee
agreed to add four other names namely Alois Chaimiti, Joshua Femias Foroma
Chakabuda, Francis Aphiri and Daniel Muchuchuti,” read part of the committee’s
minutes.
IDBZ and Gorge Safaris
are the developers of the Clipsham Views residential stands.

People with disabilities slam Govt for fake promises

Persons
with disabilities (PWDs) have spoken strongly against fake promises made by
government in the run up to last year’s harmonised elections, saying such
conduct amounted to disrespect that could not be tolerated.
Participants
at belated celebrations to mark the International Day for Persons With
Disabilities at the Civic Centre this week complained that promises made by
government never come to fruition.
They
urged the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Ezra Chadzamira to
take people with disabilities’ grievances seriously.
Zimbabwe
Association of the Visually Handicapped (ZAVH) executive director, Timothy
Mudarikwa said an empowerment fund promised by government through the Reserve
Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) in 2018 never materialised.
“Our
names are being used to get funds but we are not benefiting from those funds.
The $5 million empowerment fund for the disabled that we were promised in 2018
benefitted none of us here yet we were told it belonged to us,” said Mudarikwa.
The
celebrations, which ran under the theme ‘Empowering Persons with Disabilities
and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality to Walk the Talk’, gave the disabled a
chance to share ideas and experiences.
Other
participants called upon government not to disrespect people with disabilities
by making fake promises, saying Chadzamira could help by taking their
grievances forward.
“We
were promised farms, residential stands and other many things but nothing
tangible has been done for us,” said Disability Amalgamation Community Trust
(DACT) national chairperson Purazeni Jakata.

Discussions on peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula continues

On April 1st and 2nd, 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania
alongside Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), the
Institute for Advanced Studies in Levant Culture and Civilization (ISACCL), and
Centre for Baltic-Black Sea
Studies (Centre for BBS) will co-host a conference titled “The Role of Cultural Diplomacy in
Approaching the Protracted Conflicts – Culture of Peace through Understanding
the Other”
The conference is the
result of continuous international exchanges between Eastern Europe and South
Korea at a civil society level.  In May
2018, various leaders gathered at the House of Parliament in Bucharest to discuss
mutual developments of peace building efforts to gather support for
reunification of the Korean Peninsula. “The great humanity conversation must now
be encouraged so that the larger and larger groups of people can develop free
flocks of ideas and knowledge worldwide. This vision can be developed only if
representatives are able to act as plurality of voices, questions and desires
of billions of people participating it,” said Hon. Emil Constantinescu, former
president of Romania in his speech at the High-Level Meeting of Former Political
Leaders in Europe last year.
According
to the organizing group, this conference will focus on cultural diplomacy to
“generate mutual trust and establish avenues for better communication
through creating, transmitting and promoting representations of identity”
with the recent history of Romania and Eastern Europe that presented
multi-ethnic, inter-cultural communication as positive experiences. Participants
will include former and incumbent national leaders like former President Emil
Constantinescu of Romania, religious leaders, educators, women leaders,
journalists and NGO leaders from European and Asian countries.
Chairman Lee’s visit to Romania is part of his 31st
world tour to meet with leaders, organizations and media to garner support for
the Declaration of Peace and
Cessation of War (DPCW). HWPL
is an international organization working in association with the Department of
Public Information of the United Nations and it is committed to bringing about
the cessation of war on a global scale. With its origins in Seoul, South Korea,
HWPL has grown rapidly since its inception in 2013 having now established 170
branches in many parts of the world including New York, Geneva, London, Cape
Town.

– The Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (Viset) has
called upon Harare City Council and other responsible authorities to quickly
find a lasting solution to the fires that perennially gut the Glen View 8 light
industries.
The
latest fires are said to have destroyed 6 000 square metres of the complex on
March 12, costing the hundreds of small scale business people there tens of
thousands of dollars.
The
following day, Viset executive director Samuel Wadzai Mangoma and his team
toured the area to assess the damage.
“Viset
is concerned and alarmed at the recurring fires which keep on destroying the
complex resulting in furniture stocks worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
being lost. There is need to put closure and finality on this issue by all
stakeholders involved because livelihoods are being destroyed and income lost
in the fires that have become a frequent happening at the complex,” said
Mangoma during the tour.
The
following day, Viset released a statement calling upon authorities to, among
other things; improve safety at the complex, be pro-active in disaster
management and formalise the operations of the informal sector.
“The
operations of the complex are not well regulated by the City of Harare as it is
run by a cooperative but it is now important for the council to be proactive
and provide management services to the place which shall include regulating
dangerous activity which may trigger fires and even deployment of fire monitors
to the place.
 “Viset
has long advocated for formalisation of the informal sector so as to increase
regulation and standardise operations of the sector. This is now more urgent
for Glen View Area 8 complex which would benefit immensely from regulation as
it would improve safety and increase income and hence taxes which the
government can benefit from,” part of the statement reads.

Secondary schools in Masvingo provinces have been applauded for setting the pace in the Orate Africa Zimbabwe public speaking, spelling bee and quiz competitions held at Victoria High School over the weekend.
The provincial competition saw the introduction of a Tshivenda public speaking category one year after the Introduction of the Ndebele category which was pioneered by the same province.
In an interview with TellZim News, Orate Africa coordinator, Emmanuel Ncube hailed Masvingo schools for participating in large numbers and also introducing new categories in the competition.
“Masvingo always comes out in numbers for these competitions and they have always broken records. Having been the first to field Ndebele speakers in 2018, now they are leading the pack in the introduction of Tshivenda Public Speaking,” said Ncube.
The competition attracted the hosts Victoria High School, Gutu High, Sandon Academy, Pamushana High, Masvingo Christian College, Mwenezi Government High, Gokomere High, Serima High and St Anthony High.
The top 20 pupils from the spelling bee and public speaking categories qualified for the nationals that will be held either in Bulawayo or Plumtree in August.
Moreover, pupils who emerged in the top 10 quiz category will also take part in the nationals where they will battle it out for a spot at the regional championships in December.
Pamushana High and Ndarama High represented Zimbabwe at the Regional Championships in Tanzania last year April.
Orate Africa is regarded as the biggest brand which provides a platform for school pupils to showcase their talent in public speaking, quiz and spellings.

In a
move that could be a first for Masvingo, Harvest House International Church is
running an intensive 5-day marriage school starting this Friday March 29, with
the programme running for all the Fridays of April.
Harvest
House International Snr Pastor Chikarakara said the church had seen the
necessity of coming up with a yearly programme to address the key issues that
married people encounter.
“The
programme will be helpful to married couples, those preparing to marry, those
that are cohabiting and those that might be improperly married. In recent years,
we hosted one-day evening nights for couples and they were very successful so
we are coming back with a proper school which will run for a cumulative of five
days,” said Rev Chikarakara.
Asked
what motivated the new initiative, Rev Chikarakara said it was a response to
the troubled marriages and high divorce rate being witnessed in communities.
“Marriage
is a wonderful institution but, unfortunately, it has fallen under increasing
pressure from the Devil. The non-performing economy is stressing many people
and happiness is now hard to find in many families. We believe the marriages
school will provide some refreshing insights on how to cope with all
situations,” said Rev Chikara.
He
said the programme will particularly seek to discuss solutions to such issues
as money or lack of thereof, absence of pleasurable sex in marriages, love,
infidelity, lack of communication, and failure to understand one’s duties.
“The
church has a mandate to rise up now and be used by God to heal marriages. Our
programme is also open to those that have separated or those that have
divorced. Who knows what will happen after the teachings and the prayer that
will be conducted on the 26th of April? Nobody should be left out
because this is a critical topic that knows no boundaries. Even pastors are not
exempt from the challenges that come with married life,” he said.
He
said marriage was made by God as the root of families from which nations
sprout, adding that it was for this reason that forces of darkness were bent on
destroying marriages.
“Our
teachings will be based on the word of God and not on contemporary sociological
understandings. It is only through the word of God that genuine answers to
today’s problems can be found,” he said.
The
venue of the programme will be Harvest House International auditorium at 10
Bradburn Road, close to Gain Cash and Carry from 17:30hrs-20:00hrs.
Rev Chikarakara and his wife will
be hosts of the programme.

kuKarzakstan, mangwana kuRussia kuswera mangwana kuDubai asi chabuda hapana. Ko
iwo maprivate jets ka awa, kkkk. Hiring a private jet from UAE to take you to
Bulawayo. US200 000 gone in a day, yet we have Cyclone Idai victims. Kkkkk
kungombeya kani! I will not say much about this Tongombeya guy because we all
know how our taxpayers’ money is being wasted.
Of course some not so intelligent
councillors like Manyanga will tell you that our president is very productive
and the economy is booming. Mapombi thinks that Senganai or Sengerai guy
probably has 47 chromosomes – I am sure those who read sciences would
understand better when we talk about chromosomes. By the way Mapombi read sciences
at high school so ndozvinzwisisa. Anyway, for the benefit of my so called

ine vakamuvhotera because the guy lacks sanity; he would say anything in a desperate
attempt to be seen as the most loyal ED supporter.
But can someone tell me guys

Even if they shoot me at 45 degrees I don’t care! I think this country is being

drunkards. And the challenge of dealing with drunkards is that they always
shift goalposts when they become sober. This is the main reason they are
failing to improve the economy; they always talk of mega deals from China and

respectful of human rights soon after the military-assisted takeover or coup in

now that thye are sober, they have shifted goal posts. People are now being
persecuted – opposition leaders being arrested, NGOs being suspended and
citizens being tortured and raped according to media reports. They are now
sober and they are now showing their true colours.

the guy I always suspect he is drunk. I know people would say Mapombi anowanza

part of these drunkards who are running this country. No wonder why Hove
foolishly suspended COTRAD from operating in the district for no apparent
reason. But why do we have such overzealous civil servants in these offices?
They think they are an extension of Zanu PF yet they are mere civil servants.
Mapombi is glad that Judge
Matemadanda-Moyo reversed the suspension zvikanzi there are no basis at all for
Hove to suspend COTRAD. Thank God that Hove will pay for the legal costs; at
least he has to learn the hard way. He is desperate to please Zanu PF nekuita
zvisiri pamutemo ndokudhakwa kwacho ka ikoku kwandiri kureva. I wish vanhu
vakadai ndivo vanofanira kudzingwa naKedha ava. By the way how is he doing
these days? We should pray for Kedha as a nation, please.
Anyway, it’s lunch time guys let

those in Chimanimani whose homes were destroyed by cyclone Idai but ndakashaya
wekubatisawo maputi angu veduwe. All the same, I want to thank those who
managed and who are still donating towards the Chimanimani victims; may the
good Lord bless you abundantly. However, it is my prayer that these donations
will not be stolen nevanozviti vakangwara zvavo. This is the time I miss people
like Mphoko; he was so accountable! We need such people who can account for
everything donated. Mboko imboko!

BUHERA – The Lotteries and Gaming Board on March 15 donated a classroom block capable of accommodating 90 pupils to St John’s Chifamba High School before handing over $30 000 to St John’s Chifamba Primary School and an 85 KVA generator to Nyashanu High School.
The handover of the donation was made by Permanent Secretary for Home affairs and Cultural Heritage, Melusi Matshiya the Lotteries and Gaming Board CEO Simbarashe Gonga.
“There are several law abiding licensees nationwide that operate lotteries and gaming enterprises but those who plough back to the community are the most respected,” Matchiya said in his remarks at St John’s Chifamba.
He said the board played a big contribution is the economy of the country, and was currently running 22 projects country-wide.
Speaking at Nyashanu High School, Gonga said it had been noticed that recurrent electricity blackouts in the district was affecting quality learning especially in the field of ICTs.
“We saw it fit to provide them with a generator that will help with lights and keep the power on in the computer lab to promote the learning of ICTs.
Buhera District Schools Inspector, Leonard Chimbwanda said he appreciated the gesture which he said will improve learning at both schools.
 “This is not surprising considering that our government wants equal access to quality education for all citizens. We hope more will be done to improve standards at schools in Buhera,” said Chimbwanda.
The $30 000 donated to St John’s Chifamba Primary School will be used to build a computer laboratory.

Mopane forests in Chiredzi are disappearing fast due to the massive charcoal
business that is driving people to cut down the trees for sale in Harare and
elsewhere.
Chiredzi District Administrator
(DA) Lovemore Chisema said most worrying was the fact the destruction was
happening under the watch of the Environmental Management Authority (Ema) which
seems unable to execute its mandate.
In an interview, Chisema said Ema
had a duty to perform in terms of the powers given to it by the law, and
lamented that virtually nothing was being done to prevent the further
destruction of Mopani trees.
“The commitment of the agency in
Chiredzi is very weak because they focus mainly on trivial issues and needless
penalties yet they fail to give prominence to issues of sustainable
conservation of resources. This is despite the fact that they have the power to
exercise their mandate,” said Chisema.
Ema is mandated to provide for
the sustainable management of resources, protection of the environment and
prevention of environmental degradation by the Ema Act, Chapter (20:27).
In 2018, the Civil Protection
Unit (CPU) which is chaired Chisema, challenged Ema to engage all stakeholders
to curb deforestation.
Ema Chiredzi district officer,
Peter Mugodhi flatly refused to take any questions from TellZim News although
it is apparent that his office is doing nothing to protect the environment from
obvous threats.
The Mopane is an important tree
species of the savannah, providing nutritious animal feed in the dry Lowveld
and helping to prevent erosion.
