CHIREDZI– Zanu PF’s Chiredzi Town Council chairmanship candidate, Blessing Mazinyani was recently caught by surprise after MDC Alliance’s Gibson Hwende won the race after scoring more votes than what everybody had expected.
MDC Alliance has three councillors and Zanu PF has four, with one ward taken by and independent Ropafadzo Makumire, who was voted vice chairperson ahead of Zanu PF’s Liberty Macharaga. Makumire got five votes against Macharaga’s three, meaning he most likely got his own vote, three from MDC Alliance and one more from Zanu PF.
Chiredzi has four Zanu PF councillors namely Josphat Nzombe, Obert Ngwenya, Blessings Mazinyani and Macharaga while MDC Alliance has three councillors; Musingashari Musingashari, Rogers Chikonye and Hwende.
Hwende won by five votes against two Zanu PF candidates, Mazinyani, who got two votes, and Nzombe who got one. This most likely means Hwende got all the MDC Alliance councillors votes, independent Makumire’s vote as well as one more from Zanu PF.
The previous council was chaired by Francis Moyo of Zanu PF who left council when he decided to contest for the Chiredzi West parliamentary seat in the party primaries but lost to Farai Musikavanhu who went on to become new MP.
All the four Zanu PF candidates wanted the post but the party took a decision to endorse Mazinyani thereby angering Nzombe and another councillor who then reportedly decided to vote for Hwende.
Speaking after the swearing in ceremony, Zanu PF Masvingo provincial secretary for information and publicity, Ronald Ndava castigated ‘sell-outs’ in the party.
“This is the darkest day of my life. I have never witnessed party cadres behaving like this. They just used their money to get into party positions and yet they don’t belong to the party but belong to themselves,” said Ndava.
In his acceptance speech, Hwende promised to quickly address issues to do with transparency, openness and corruption that haunted the council for the past five years under the Zanu PF leadership.
He said Chiredzi needed to open a new chapter that would see everyone contributing towards the expected standards of development.
“It is indeed my wish to see the welfare of residents and their interests being the number one agenda for our council in the next five years. Chiredzi will never be the same again. This journey which we have started needs everyone to be involved in the running of affairs of our council.
“Chiredzi is going to be a very good town in relation to service delivery but this can only be achieved if all of us are involved. The Chiredzi we want starts with you and it starts with us.
“Corruption, Corruption, we are going to ensure that Chiredzi Town Council will be a corrupt-free council. We want to try by all means to ensure that we do our council business with trust. We want to be responsible, accountable and open and this will address the gap between residents and council,” Hwende said.politics

CHIVI – Newly-elected Zanu PF Chivi Rural District Council (RDC) Ward 6 councillor, Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa beat two other contestants to land the position of new council chairperson in a vote held on Tuesday last week.
Mukungunugwa got 22 votes against Ward 4 councillor David Maridza’s eight votes and Ward seven councillor Taurai Masvinu’s two votes. All the 32 councillors in the district are from the ruling party.
Mukungunugwa succeeds Killer Zivhu who is now the new Chivi South Member of Parliament (MP). He is being be deputised by Ward 11 councillor Walter Nyambi.
Speaking to TellZim News, Mukungunugwa thanked his colleagues for entrusting him with the position, saying it was now his challenge to lead efforts for improved living conditions in Chivi.
“I have been given a responsibility and I promise to work hard for the people of Chivi. This is a dry district so I will work to improve access to clean water. We need more boreholes in communities so that our people will no longer have to walk long distances to get water.
“The council also needs to do more with regards to dam construction in order to support new irrigation projects. The people of Chivi need to be given an opportunity to have food security by growing their own crops throughout the year,” he said.
Other projects that Mukungunugwa promised to prioritise include road improvements so that people do not struggle to get to school and clinics.
“If we improve our road network, we will also be in a position to attract and retain such skilled manpower as teachers and nurses in the district,” said Mukungunugwa.politics

Soccer academy launched in Masvingo

A local veteran soccer coach, Cuthbert Kwangwari has established a new soccer academy called KC Soccer Academy which he says is there to help with soccer talent identification and development among children between the ages of 13 and 22.
Kwangwari told TellZim News the Mucheke-based academy was the first to be registered with SRC and uses Mucheke B grounds as its training venue.
“An academy is the way to go as it is open to kids from different schools in the province. The idea is to come up with young talented players rather than let the talent in Masvingo go unrecognized. We have vast talent here but it only needs to be groomed and exposed to the people who matter.
“The grooming of football youngsters from an early age is the way to go as this gives them exposure and recognition by other teams in Zimbabwe,” said Kwangwari.
He also said there was a lot of untapped soccer talent in the province that ought to be developed, adding that if enough resources were put in place, a number of teams playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) will emerge.
“With the kind of talent that we have here, we can have three or more PSL teams in the province. It is only that resources are not permitting. I have established the academy after realising that some children are only exposed to soccer in the later years of their lives when not much can still be done to develop their potential,” Kwangwari said.sport

ZVISHAVANE – A school teacher who is passionate about football is committing his personal resources and time to grooming new talent among a host of school children who show potential in the beautiful game.
Greatman Nyoni, a teacher at Lundi Primary School in the Mapanzure area some 47km from Zvishavane town, has established the Great Stars Academy as a means of accomplishing his mission.
The football academy is registered with Zifa and is on position three with two games in hand despite being the only rural team in the Zvishavane Grassroots League (Under 15).
The club runs with the benefaction of mining business person Alfred Tavatya.
As head coach of the academy, Nyoni says his work is to nurture young talent and provide young soccer players with a place at which they can fully explore their capabilities.
“When I started the club, I had observed that here in Mapanzure, there are many children who are talented. These children however face challenges in having their talents identified by people who can help them. Most talent identification programmes are only rooted in urban areas, while rural areas like ours have little or nothing,” Nyoni said.
Team captain, Brighton Dembo told TellZim News that the club had helped him and his colleagues to fully bring out the talent they have.
“Now that we are registered with the team, we have a place at which to practice unlike in the past when we didn’t have a chance to showcase what we are made of,” said Dembo.
Other teams in the Zvishavane Grassroots League are Falcon FC, Shabani Mine FC Under 15, Future Generation FC, Kandodo Stars FC, and Bethany FC.local

MWENEZI – Jimson Mufundire (38) was nearly sent to prison last week for attempted murder after he pleaded guilty to hitting Solomon Gwazinga who had allegedly boasted that he was sleeping with his mother.
This was heard in the Mwenezi Magistrate Court during the trial of Mafundire of Tariri village under Chief Maranda who was charged for severely assaulting his mother’s alleged lover.
Magistrate Honest Musiiwa gave Mafundire a stern warning before sentencing him to 15 months in prison, five of which were conditionally suspended.
The remaining 10 months were set aside on condition that he performed 350 hours of community service at Chengwe Primary school.
The magistrate highlighted that the medical report showed that Mafundire nearly killed the complainant.
Asked by magistrate Musiiwa why he committed the offence, Mafundire said the complainant was publicly boasting to his face that he was sleeping with his mother.
Representing the State, prosecutor Willard Chasi told the court that sometime in February this year, Mafundire was drinking beer in the village when a misunderstanding arose between him and Gwazinga after the latter had told him that he had sex with his mother.
Enraged by Gwazinga’s utterances, Mafundire took a wooden stool and struck him on the head.
Gwazinga sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital where he received treatment.
A police report was later made leading to the arrest of Mafundire.local

Zvishavane to hire poundmaster as stray livestock wreak havoc on roads

ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane Town Council in collaboration with the Zvishavane traffic police are planning to hire a pound master to take control of stray animals in town as a drastic measure to reduce road accidents.
Stray animals are being blamed for contributing to some of the road traffic accidents happening in the mining town.
Speaking at a traffic consultative meeting at Madeira last week, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Zvishavane traffic liaison officer, Assistant Inspector Brighton Nzima said almost 50 percent of all accidents recorded since January were caused by stray animals.
Nzima said the solution could come by hiring a poundmaster – a person who will be responsible for taking care of stray animals until their owners collect them upon paying a fine.
“We have only one problem as a department; those stray animals that are contributing to almost 50 percent of the road accidents in our town. We want to introduce a poundmaster who will take the livestock and let the owners pay fines before collecting them,” said Nzima.
Zvishavane traffic chief security officer, Francis Machaya echoed Nzima’s words saying the services of a poundmaster were critical to the reduction of road traffic accidents in the town.
“We once had a poundmaster who was paid on commission and we had a kraal where the livestock were kept but the place has since been taken away. We don’t have a site or a kraal as of yet so we will speak with the management of Shabani Mine so that we can share their kraal,” said Machaya.local

Masvingo city council tinyareiwo!

Mapombi is not a jealousy woman; I should have congratulated our President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for being successfully elected by the Constitutional Court to be at the helm of Zimbabwe for the next five years. Did I say elected by the ConCourt? No, I wanted to say declared winner; of course no one knows kuti ED won with how many votes. Maybe 50.8%, 50.67% or 50.6% Haaa the exact figure is not important chikuru kuhwina chete and a win is a win – whether with a narrow margin or a wider margin. Whether feya feya or kuhwinira kuCourt kupinda kupinda vakomana.
Congratulations to all Pfeeerorists but one thing Mapombi would like to tell you is tiri tese pakutambura, vazhinji muchakanga waya ini zvangu Mapombi of the unknown totem ndichikanga maputi asina nzungu pedu paDr Gire Market apa.
Zanu PF may control all the courts, army and even security guards in the country, and they can force things on the marginalized citizens but they cannot force the economy. Never!  They may shoot and kill civilians but not the economy. Power at the expense of the people hazvibatsire.
Mapombi is always a gentleman handivanzi ini; hapana akambohwina zvine musoro apa pakati paED naChamisa so tidzikamirei zvenyu mese muti tyooo and listen to the will of the people.
History has shown us that Zanu PF alone cannot improve the economy – and so is the MDC because vazhinji vacho vakaba zvaityisa during inclusive government. But at least MDC has a better system which promotes trade with the international community. What we need are investors in Zimbabwe, not a bunch of bootlicking war vets.
Anyway, Mapombi will wait to see the new cabinet; that will tell us whether the country will remain stagnant or will go forward. Ini zvangu kana mangoisa vana Mr Bin Chinamasa, Mr Ibu Matemadanda nana mukoma Chris ndobva ndaziva kuti hapana zviripo makumbo enyoka.
I cannot fathom a cabinet with such not so intelligent comrades, who forever think that anyone without faked war credentials cannot rule this country. Makanyeperewa varume.
I will not waste time talking about these war vets otherwise ndingatoita typhoid chaiyo. By the way mukati rwendo rwuno vanhu havafe netyphoid in Masvingo?
The city of Masvingo is struggling to retain water supply to normalcy. But there is one thing I don’t understand about the management – weren’t these pumps officially commissioned by ED some three years ago when he was still deputy president?
So in just three years two of the pumps are already broken and need so much time to repair. Did I hear a senior official saying one of the pumps needs close to three months to be repaired? What are we saying comrades? Were these pumps new or refurbished in the first place?
We used to have Rhodesian pumps but hatina kumboita crisis yakadai but with these Indian something something pumps, the whole city is at risk of typhoid and cholera.
Of course I’m not an expert in this area but, honestly, to wait for three months takangomirira pump idzoke from repair hamuonewo kuti kwava kujairira guta? City Council tinyareiwo!
Some of us we drink direct from Mucheke River but the management must spare a thought for those who pay their water bills religiously. Apa mugoona vanhu vecouncil vanovhara mvura sei and their estimated bills unotoshaya kuti kune akatoitawo Maths here ikoko kuCivic Centre uku. Tikwanirei imi hamunyare makaita seiko?
After all, that bowser can always bring the management water at their houses so havatombozive kuti mvura iri kunetsa iyi. The argument is always , ‘so what do you expect us to do if the pumps broke down and are being repaired’. Vanenge vatopedza newe ukanzwa vadaro.
There is a lot you can do comrades – buy original pumps kwete kuda zvaka cheaper or refurbished machines.
Anyway, Mapombi prays that no one will die of typhoid in Masvingo. No one should die of cholera. And to the residents, let us use the little water we have sparingly, otherwise tisu tinofa ivo havafe because vanounzirwa mvura kudzimba dzavo. Yes, they instruct and it will be done immediately. Kungofona kuti bowser ngariuye rotoenda asi kwenyu uko munonzi kabucket per family wotoshaya kuti zvofamba sei.
I heard public transport these days haisi kunakidza because vanhu havasi kugeza mudzimba umu nekushaya mvura.
Anyway, it’s lunch time guys let me go ndindokanga zvangu maputi angu for lunch while waiting for ED to announce his cabinet. We are patiently waiting to hear if he retains people like Mpofu nanaChinamasa kkkkkkkk zvimwe muchiti munotamba varume.
Zimbabwe needs fresh ideas, young blood, more energetic ministers not avo vadurungunda neCorruption. Vana Gumbo ngavambozorora avo. I hope ED will get that one right otherwise there is no difference between him and Mugabe; probably the only difference there might be age chete chete. We want fresh blood Mr President.
By the way I heard Mphoko’s son defrauded Choppies a few thousand dollars – hanzi about 50 grant? Mapombi knows very well that umdala Mphoko has nothing to do with this one – his hands are clean. There is no way Mphoko can be involved because 50 000 is not a lot of money especially considering the value of chicks and incubators he used to donate during his time as VP. Ko mabenefits avo vakazopiwa here negovernment? And how is Gogo Mphoko coping up these days? She was the one ka wekuramba imba iya akagara muhotel for months kkkkkkkkkk but life so ka, mahwani. Masvingo residents dismiss budget consultations

0

Simbarashe Mandishona

Clayton Shereni

Masvingo residents have expressed mistrust and lack of confidence in the city council’s annual budget consultative outreach programmes, dismissing the processes as mere window-dressing.
Speaking at a Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Alliance (Murra) local government budgeting survey launch at a local hotel last week, residents said they were being marginalised in the city’s budgeting process.
A female Ward 2 resident said city fathers only come to the people with drafted budgets just as a formality and a way of fulfilling the consultative requirements of the Urban Councils Act.
“We don’t know the budget, what we know is the expenditure. We are only shown what they would have already drafted. All of them come to the people for that deceptive exercise and after that, we don’t see them until the following year,” she said.
One of City of Masvingo representatives at the meeting, however, defended the practice of drafting the budget before consultations, saying making consultations first was time consuming.
“We just can’t gather without a tangible pre-budget because with that kind of democracy, the whole process would be delayed. As we come to the people, we must have a starting point which we can then amend with the consent of the people,” said the rep.
Speaking on behalf of the business community, Lulu Munemo of Lulu Events said the council could improve service delivery by planning fewer tasks at a time and executing them before moving on to the next task.
“Our council needs to take it one step at a time. We commend what they are doing but they are doing too many tasks at the same time. In Clovely, we don’t even get to see refuse trucks yet we pay rates,” said Munemo.
City of Masvingo deputy housing director, Simbarashe Mandishona challenged residents to rigorously engage council in a way that helps service delivery.
“It’s residents who make us great, our doors are always open. We need people who are forthcoming so that we make a great team and make our city a jewel as it has always been,” said Mandishona.
Recently Murra filed an urgent High Court application seeking an order for the council to quickly restore regular water supplies that have been disrupted by broken down pumps.
The court ordered the two parties to reach a settlement whereby the council will have to equitably distribute the available water until normal supplies are restored.local
