BancABC staff and their stakeholders pose for a picture after the luncheon last week

Business Reporter

06 Aprl 2017, MASVINGO – Various stakeholders in Masvingo have praised BancABC for empowering them through financial support.
Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the BancABC in Masvingo last Friday, school heads and small to medium enterprises owed their successes to the overwhelming financial support which they received from the financial institution.
Most of the school heads and the their School Development Committees (SDCs) who were present testified that their schools were now transformed, leading to better pass rates due to improved educational facilities for school children.
Some of the schools that were at the luncheon include Danhamombe High School, Ndarama High, Mapanzure Secondary, Mutendi High School, St Antony’s High, Mukaro High, Vurombo Primary, Silveira High School, Victoria Primary School, Nemanwa Primary School, Helen McGee Primary and Mucheke High among others.
Headmasters who attended the event agreed that the bank has made a huge impact in promoting better education in Zimbabwe.
Most of the beneficiaries of the loan facilities from the bank managed to construct school laboratories, dormitories, administration blocks, libraries and other essential structures that help to equip students with necessary skills. Some schools have also managed to buy vehicles and buses.
BancABC Masvingo branch manager Goodman Mudzviti said the loan repayment plan was structured in a manner which does not choke the borrower.
“You can re-pay the loan on school term basis and you will have up to 15 terms to pay. We are also very flexible in case you want to extend your repayment duration due to reasons beyond your control.
“All you need to do is to come to us early and present your case so that we see how best we can assist each other. We do not want you to feel at home but instead we want you to be at home,” said Mudzviti.
Mudzviti also explained that there were a lot of exciting packages for teachers and other civil servants. He said even those who do not receive their salaries through BancABC can get loans from the bank.
BancABC country manager – business banking Oliver Habonimana and the relationship manager business banking McMillan Usaiwevhu, both of whom were present at the luncheon, said the bank was there to develop communities.
“We are here to support your schools and your businesses. We can go out of our way to make sure that we do not disappoint our customers,” said Usaiwevhu.
Guest of honour Ray Muzenda, who has been banking with BancABC for a long time, testified that the bank empowered him from the day he opened his account.
“I have enjoyed the services that I receive from BancABC. They treat clients with due respect and they are always keen to find ways of how they can financially empower their clients,” said Muzenda.business

President Robert Mugabe

Upenyu Chaota

05 April 2017, Masvingo –  The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Masvingo Shuvai Mahofa, who once dismissed President Robert Mugabe’s plea for all provinces to contribute towards the 300 cattle donation he pledged to the African Union (AU) last year, is now under immense pressure as all the provinces have been ordered to immediately deliver the livestock, TellZim News has learnt.
Though the donation is against Mahofa’s conscience as she indicated last year that Masvingo province is facing a number of challenges chief among them starvation that it cannot afford to contribute the cattle Mugabe wants for the donation, she is now mobilising the business community to chip in and assist, amid reports that all Rural District Councils (RDCs) have been forced to contribute at least $400 each.
Initially, Masvingo had pledged to reimburse 100 herds to the President but Mahofa back-peddled saying there is no stipulated number of cattle and the province will just raise what it can.
“We haven’t been given a figure but we will raise what we can as a province,” said Mahofa.
She, however, seems to be in panic mode after the Zanu PF national secretary of administration Ignatious Chombo is said to have written to her office indicating that the cattle were now due.
“We received communication that the cattle are now due therefore, we are on the ground to mobilise people to support us in cash or in kind. We have held meetings with the business community as well as the rural district councils and they have agreed to support us,” said Mahofa.
“They have all agreed to pay at least $400 but some have challenged themselves to go beyond the stipulated amount. We are not forcing anyone but people are making pledges,” she added.
Mahofa said they are committed to clear Mugabe debt as soon as possible.
“The money we are getting is going straight to buying cattle. We are not going to send money. There is a committee which has been put in place and will soon be visiting the province to check on the cattle and we would like to be found at least with something,” said Mahofa.
TellZim News established that the ministry of rural development has written to all RDCs ordering them to donate at least $400 to buy the cattle.
Zaka RDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Majaura could not be drawn into commenting about the letter as he indicated that he was not around when the finance committee discussed about it a fortnight ago.
“I heard about the letter from the ministry of rural development but I was not there when it was presented in the finance committee meeting,” said Majaura.
However, councillor Peter Imbayarwo, who was present in the meeting, said the letter was not only directed to Zaka RDC but all councils in the province including the Masvingo city council.
Masvingo Mayor Hubert Fidze said the council is yet to receive such a letter but laughed off at such attempts saying they will not get a cent from the city council.
“They can be successful at the rural councils but as the city council we have always and will always stand by our principles of not getting involved in political party activities. We are yet to get the letter but that will not change anything,” said Fidze.politics, local

03 April 2017, ZVISHAVANE – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra) has donated food staffs to flood victims in Ward 4, Zvomukonde village in Mberengwa as part of efforts to ensure food security in an area badly affected by the havoc caused by Cyclone Dineo.
A total of 65 families benefited from the donation; each family receiving 70 kg of mealie meal, 10 kg soya chunks, cooking oil and salt.
Speaking at the event, Mberengwa Assistant District Administrator (DA) Rodwell Mtetwa praised Adra for its charity work which he said will provide some needed relief to the destitute families.

Jubilee Mahlamvana

03 April 2017, MBERENGWA – The 14 – year old Mberengwa girl who made headlines in various newspapers last year after successfully giving birth while writing her Grade Seven examinations is appealing for financial help for her to go to secondary school.
The girl is a victim of sexual abuse which she suffered at the hands of her cousin brother who is said to be a minor too.  Her poor parents are struggling to help her raise the child and are in no position to find the money to let her continue with her education.
Speaking to TellZim News, the minor’s mother said her daughter obtained 23 Units in her Grade Seven examinations but given the hardships they are facing as a family, they do not have enough money for the wellbeing of the baby, let alone for school fees.
“We do not have money to pay for her school fees and buy supplementary milk for her child so we suggested she drops out of school and breast-feed the child while we look for money,” her mother said.
The family is pleading with individuals, communities and organisations to come and assist so that the young mother does not end up hopeless as most teenage mothers are.

SMEs regret formalising businesses

ZVISHAVANE – Owners of Small to Medium Enterprises have said they regret having complied with the government’s drive to formalise their businesses, saying the process had resulted in them being exploited by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra).
Many small business owners who spoke to TellZim News said the tax collector was now treating them as a ‘cash cow’ which has to be relentlessly pursued.
Secretary General for SMEs in Zvishavane, Bigboy Murenga said relations between Zimra and hardworking small business owners were often fraught with tension owing to the former’s lack of consideration.
“Zimra officials are reported to be paying frequent visits to registered SMEs collecting taxes. This has seen some registered SMEs threatening to close their businesses because they cannot withstand the amount of revenue Zimra is charging on their businesses.
“The existing sour relations between the two have resulted in unregistered SMEs getting rid of any thought of formalising because formalisation is now like committing a crime,” said Murenga.
Other SME owners in the town also said Zimra’s rigid tax regime was hindering growth of the economy and depriving the State of much needed revenue.
They also said although many small business people have a positive view of formalisation and its benefits, Zimra officials needed to change their attitudes towards the SMEs industry if the country is to reap the full potential benefits of a vibrant small to medium businesses sector.business

Tsvangirai too desperate for power

0

Mukati coalition inobuda iyeyi? I doubt. Can someone answer me please – is this coalition going to yield anything? I mean the people who want to coalesce with Tsvangirai to fight Zanu PF are they of any value? The likes of Didymus Mutasa and his ZimPF? Kkkkkkk Mwari ndibatsirei shuwa. Ndati ndingobvunzawo hangu.
Mutasa has a lot of skeletons in his cupboard and people who dislike him are probably more than people who like him in the country. The old man stands accused of murdering MDC-T supporters in 2008 and the victims’ families are still bitter. As I’m speaking I am trying to think what could be in the minds of Christpower’s family about both Mutasa and Tsvangirai. Mutasa is heavly implicated for allegedly having a hand in the death of Christpower and his father who were murdered for supporting MDC-T.
Now MDC-T yavakafira iye is now joining hands with Mutasa and company in the name of a coalition. While we encourage people to forgive each other and unite, the wounds are still to fresh to talk of reconciliation.  After all this is not reconciliation but desperation for power which is exhibited by Tsvangirai and the MDC-T.
Mapombi is also trying to think what could Jestina Mukoko feeling right now about this coalition considering that she is engaged in a court battle with Mutasa demanding compensation for the unjust abduction and gross violation of her rights by state security which Mutasa was the responsible minister then. Zvimwe muchiti munotamba vakomana! Mototi coalition pakadai?
That’s the reason sometimes, though very rare, Mapombi likes Zanu PF – the Cdes are principled. I mean very principled. Vanoziva kuti maJudha nemaSamaria havadyidzane chero zvodii kwete zvana Tsvangirai zvechinzara nzara zvovoita izvi.
Mapombi knows very well that coalition is critical at this moment in time – but we should also be rational and consider the feelings of the victims of violence whom we were with in the struggle. Manje tikakanganwa nekuti tava kuda power haa-aah tinozviruza. There are far much better political parties to coalesce with, vana Biti, Welshman, Simba Makoni, Elton Mangoma, Jacob Ngarivhume, Noah, Egypty and even Joice Mujuru. These political parties are more acceptable even in the MDC-T circles than vana Cde Mutasa ava. Anyway, desperate situation calls for desperate measures. Kana Zanu PF yazohwina zvayo don’t cry foul.
You are rigging yourself by including perpetrators of political violence in coalition talks. Kkkkkkk but MDC-T so – these people are really desperate to get power. Mapombi heard some of its senior officials saying we need vana Mutasa kuti vagozotiudza kuti how they were rigging elections hahahahaha baba vangu iwe. Do you think they will tell you? It’s now over two years since they were kicked out of Zanu PF and why didn’t they say it out? Ngwarai mhani makaita seiko imi?
Anyway, let us wait and see how it goes but kana mazodyiwa neZanu PF musanyepera rigging. By the way, I also have a word for Joice Runaidha Mujuru – don’t develop a big sister mentality my sister. You are not bigger than anyone else except for Dr Amai maybe. Learn to accept facts as they are – that is, Tsvangirai has more support than your National People’s Party.  Izvo zvenyu zvekuti it’s not given that Tsvangirai will lead coalition zvava zvekupenga izvo. Kana musingade you are free to go and re-unite with ana Mutasa and leave Tsvangirai alone muone kuti haavhoterwe here.
Runaidha my sister, listen and listen very carefully – you have better appeal kuvanhu than vana Mutasa so better take advantage of that and push for coalition as well as confirming that Tsvangirai will lead. That way you will endear yourself with the people not zvemadzana mbwanana zvomoita izvi. Leave Tsvangirai alone please. Or else we will begin to think you are a Zanu PF project manje.
Anyway, it’s almost lunch time let me go ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. I cannot eat rotten bananas today I have a running stomach. Ko Dr Amai variseiko mazuva ano? Varova! Mpaombi is very sure she is planning something after that attack on Queen Bee kuBuhera pavanodzoka we are likely to hear more fireworks.
And the visiting President is still around; hopefully he will stay for a while. Kkkkkk zvabva zvandifungidza Charles Manyuchi kkkkkk asi vanhu so. Hanzi akangonzi kana ukangorova muchinda uyu President Mugabe vako hatichadazve kuvaona vachiuya kuno kuSingapore kkkkkk. Ko ndiye aizodiiwo akabva angorohwa chamatsenganzungu ndokuti pasi gunduru. Anyway, Mapombi salutes you my brother Manyu, weather what people say is true or not, whether the match was gambled or not, still I salute you. You are my hero! Mboko imboko!mapombi

Shattered Gutu roads in dire need of repair

0

Peter Chawapiwa

03 April 2017, GUTU – Most roads in Gutu urgently need attention after the heavy rains that pounded the district rendered many areas hardly reachable, TellZim News can reveal.
Buses and small passenger vehicles are resorting to side roads to avoid getting stuck on the badly damaged roads.
The most affected major roads include the Gutu – Zvavahera – Chitsa, Gutu – Buhera and Mpandawana – Kurai roads.  The first two roads have been surfaced for the first 11 kilometres while only 40 km of the Kurai road is tarred.
Transport operators said the incessant wet spell saw most parts of the roads becoming dangerous and difficult to drive on.
“Gutu has not received as much rainfall in the last 20 years as it received this year so the state of the roads is putting us out of business. You have to part ways with some of your money to pay villagers to assist pull your vehicle when you get stuck in the mud. This has increased the cost of doing business,” said one kombi driver who plies the Gutu – Nyazvidzi road.
Another motorist said he was losing business because travellers between Gutu and Murambinda now choose to use the longer route through Chivhu.
A Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) bus recently spent two days stuck in the mud close to Guzha Primary School.
The Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) and the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara) were not immediately available to comment.

Women Breaking Barriers…Fiona Kudzika a female builder doing wonders

Charles Maregere

03 March 2017, Don’t let traditional gender-based views of careers stop you from pursuing your passion. Worldwide studies have shown that often women will grow up with a strong influencer, such as a teacher, a guidance counsellor, or a parent who will guide their student or child into “traditional” careers based on gender. You might not have even noticed it happening.

Fiona says, “Why are careers in the construction industry so untraditional for women? Many women love to build things and get a lot of satisfaction from working with their hands just like many men. So why shouldn’t you pursue a career that matches your aptitudes and abilities, one that you can be passionate about regardless of traditional views?
Fiona who is a third year student at Masvingo Polytechnic is one of the key people who had a hand in the construction of Great Zimbabwe University’s student’s campus at the school of hospitality and tourism as well as the Robert Mugabe school of education campus in Masvingo.
Is a career in the skilled trades right for you?
“Without sugar coating things, working in the skilled trades is hard work, but if you like a challenge and want a fulfilling career (not just a job), then I would say go on with it.”
To be successful, you need to “pull your own weight” that means listening, learning, doing and then you will be respected and treated equally. You need to be motivated, determined and confident, as well as flexible and adaptable. But above all else, you need to have a passion for what you’re doing. If you’ve got that, then there are no limits to what you can do and accomplish despite gender.
“The main reason why more women don’t enter the skilled trades is because of the lack of information available for getting started. We’re here to change that.” Says the soft spoken Fiona.local

With a wealth of experience to tap from Grace has worked at senior level for various Local and International organisations.
Grace also acknowledges that her success did not just come on a silver platter ,she had to be firm and put extra effort to ride above societal myths ,misconceptions and all the stereotypes faced by the girl child growing up and taking up sciences to trail blaze her career. As a prayerful woman she thanks the almighty God for her mother who has been the backbone and powerhouse to her success story.
How would you encourage a young woman into this field?
“Pharmacists are the experts in medicines,” she says. “They have the skills and there are great opportunities out there for women in pharmacy who are determined enough. To be a leader Grace hints that one need to be a good communicator, open-minded, confident, enthusiastic, have initiative, proactive, flexible and organised. Many women have these qualities. They just need to believe in themselves more.” local
