Chikombedzi Hospital woes mount

23 Feb 2017 – CHIREDZI – Chikombedzi Mission Hospital has spent almost a month operating without water and electricity with expectant mothers being forced to walk at least two kilometres to find water.
The hospital mortuary has now been closed as there are numerous problems with the cooling system.
Sources at the hospital said there was a strong likelihood that the hospital will suffer from an outbreak of cholera and typhoid because of the severe water shortages.
When contacted for comment, acting Medical Superintendent, Irvin Mutengerere said there is a borehole which requires electricity to work, meaning the absence of electricity also means the absence of water.
“The major challenge we are facing as a hospital is shortage of water and electricity. We once contacted ZETDC but they just said there were faults that need to be fixed but nothing has been done. We now have about a month operating without water and electricity,” said Mutengerere.
He told this publication that the hospital needs two more boreholes to run efficiently.
Mutengerere also said the hospital requires X-Ray machines which are a basic resource for any health institution of that size. He said the hospital has an emergency generator and solar power that are only sufficient for use in extreme emergency measures in the laboratory.
“It’s six months now since our mortuary has stopped working and we urge people to bury their relatives as soon as possible. For those without policies, it is wise for them to contact service providers,” said Mutengerere.health

23 Feb 2017 – CHIREDZI – Problems at Chiredzi General Hospital are getting worse with revelations that there is a dire shortage of maternal beds, a problem which has seen pregnant mothers sleeping on the floor.
Provincial Medical Director (PMD), Dr Amadeus Shamu has pleaded with companies to intervene and support the hospital.
He said shortage of resources in the whole health delivery system had led to problems in public health institutions.
“We still have a challenge with regards to the availability of resources. I will assess the actual extent of the problems at the hospital. We do however encourage Public Private Partnerships to address problems at our health institutions,” said Dr Shamu.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHIRRA) also pleaded with businesses in Chiredzi to come to the rescue of the most critical health institution in the district.
CHIRRA chairperson, Jonathan Muusha Mpamombe said his organisation was saddened that residents and other patients from around the district are getting very poor service at the hospital.
“Since the Minister (of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa) visited last year, no steps have been taken to address the issue. Some women in the maternity ward are giving birth while sleeping on the floor.
“We are asking for volunteers to come and help the hospital,” said Mupamombe.health

Happy 93rd Mr President

Kkkkkk but politics so ka maOne chaiwo. Of all the people, Mapombi never thought Rugare Gumbo would have the audacity to say such words – hanzi President Mugabe has never been charming kubva tichiri kuhondo and as a result he resorted to second-hand women. Kkkkkkk akomanaka tambai zvakanaka!
But kuti second-hand wife kobvirwa Dr Amai here? Kkkkk ana Gumbo maguta kunyarwa handiti how can you belittle a whole Dr (PhD) and refer to her as a second-hand wife? But eish; Marujata wacho anozozvinyanyzwo futi – her address recently leaves a lot to be desired.
Mapombi started to question kuti ndivo here vakaita PhD paUZ or vakaitirwa because zvimwe zvinotaurwa hazvina maturity. In fact zvinonyadzisa especially when it’s coming from the First Lady. How can she spend so much time speaking about how bees mate in the air and stuff –  please leave Queen Bee alone! Whether she is a whore, harlot or prostitute just leave her alone.
But to say Zimbabweans will vote for Mugabe from his grave I think that’s stretching our patience too far. People of Zimbabwe might be docile but not to an extent of voting a dead person kuti tarwara here nhai Grace? Hezvo!
Anyway, Mapombi would want to believe that when Grace said people would vote Mugabe from the grave wakataura chiDuma vanhu vakatadza kuchinzwisisa – maybe she was only confirming that Mugabe would not be alive by the time we will have elections. Let us give Grace the benefit of doubt and assume ndozvaaireva hake kuti by the time we go for elections the President will be no more. Kkkkkk she might be another prophet of doom though!
Tell whoever made you to believe that Mugabe is the only person with Presidential qualities that people would vote for him to rule from the grave – kuti makanyeberewa  hakuna zvakadaro. And even for you to dream becoming the next President succeeding your dear hubby muka ubike doro uti ko midzimu yandirasirei kudai. Not over my dead body – naMnangagwa kudai ndokupikira Marujata hauchinanzve chigaro chiye. Chine varidzi chinhu ichi.
By the way, President Mugabe turned 93rd  this week and all is set for his 21st Movement celebrations. Mapombi is not a jealousy woman so she would like to congratulate the Commander-in-chief of the Defence Forces, the Chancellor of all State universities, the first secretary of Zanu PF, the god-father of all Zanu PF factions a happy birthday. Mapombi wishes you many more and I dedicate Sulumani Chimbetu’s song as I wish you the best on the occasion of your birthday – ‘Ndiri kunzwa masimba okupinda muzana…kunge munhu uye ari kumhanya race……kumhanya race kumhanya….Usain Bolt. Kkkkkk vana Sulu venyu ava!
Mapombi is happy for Gushungo – tongai vanhu Karigamombe! Zimbabwe is full of foolish people as your wife correctly puts it that chero muri muguva tinongokuvhoterai. We are even foolish to an extent that we can even vote your wife to take over from you –  in fact we can make Zimbabwe a Mugabe dynasty.  We have no hard feelings about that because we are not so intelligent.
Don’t worry about the poor performing economy, high unemployment rate, poor roads if there are still any roads to talk about and poor health facilities. What is more important is power Gushungo – tongai vanhu chete.
But Masvingo province is really on fire Mr President –  Team Lacoste and Gushungo 40 (G40) zviri kutatsurana zvinonzwisa tsitsi. Mapombi has never thought the two factions would go to that extreme. Jorum Gumbo was booed at the just ended Zanu PF PCC at Masvingo Provincial Show grounds and his attempt to side with Team Lacoste foiled. E-eh ko hamuzvisive here kuti vana Gumbo ndeve Team Lacoste though vachizviramba pane vanhu ko vangatii ivo vachisapota Ngwena isina mazino. Mind you a Monitor lizard (burwa) is far much better than a toothless crocodile. Iyo Ngwena iyi mukatoti ingwena chaiyo chaiyo yemashuwa imi? Mapombi doubts very much!
Anyway, Mapombi will not predict the results of the Zanu PF provincial executive elections to take place today (Thursday) but mukaita zvekutamba Gushungo 40 inoenda nechinhu.
G40 enjoys the brains of about 17 MPs from the province who are working against old and tired gogo Mahofa and sekuru Hungwe hahahahaha chero ndimiwo.
It’s almost lunch time guys let me go ndindozvikangira hangu maputi angu for lunch but before I go, can someone tell Dokora kuti the devil is a liar! Musataure naye zvakawanda please just tell him the devil is a big liar.
Anyway, Mapombi heard there will be a by-election in Mwenezi on April 8 where Muzukuru Joosbi Omar will square off with this guy who is always in the wrong basket – Kudakwashe Bhasikiti. Kkkkkk but zvaBhasikiti vakomana hanzi Dr Grace and Dr Mujuru zvakangofanana neCyclone Dineo hanzi imhepo dzese. Kkkkkkk ndiregei zvangu ini nditsvage some rotten bananas so that I can help myself while ndichikanga zvangu maputi.
Ko Mphoko uripiko these days? Haaa that man – no wonder why people say he ran away from the liberation war. Anyway mboko imboko!mapombi adonha

MISA urges government to repeal media laws

Kelvin Jakachira

TellZim Reporter

23 Feb 2017 – HARARE – The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe chapter has urged the government to repeal repressive laws that have haunted the media for close to two decades.
MISA acting national chairperson, Kelvin Jakachira told Advocacy committee members at the organisation’s belated Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week that it was regrettable that the media environment remained unchanged despite the 2013 constitutional gains.
“The media landscape is still littered with a plethora of laws that infringe on media freedom, freedom of expression, free artistic expression and freedom to demonstrate and petition.
“The laws include the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA), Broadcasting Services Act (BSA), Public Order and Security Act (POSA) and Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act among others,” said Jakachira.
He said 2016 witnessed an upsurge in cases relating to violations against the media.
“During the course of 2016, we witnessed an upsurge in cases pertaining to media violations. A total of 23 journalists were unlawfully arrested or detained while conducting their lawful professional duties, compared to 10 cases recorded in 2015.
“In addition, 12 journalists were assaulted by the police and supporters of Zanu PF while on duty, compared to seven (7) cases recorded in 2015,” he lamented.
Jakachira was, however, happy that MISA managed to provide legal assistance and medical cover to the journalists who were victims of these acts of lawlessness.
MISA also gave transport allowances to families of the journalists who were in custody.local

MP Chakona warns Chief Nhema

Paradzai Chakona

Itai Muzondo

23 Feb 2017 – ZAKA – Zaka Central legislator Paradzai Chakona is on a collision course with Chief Nhema, Ranganai Bwawanda, whom he accuses of de-campaigning him and has issued a stern warning that the chief must leave politics to politicians while he performs his chieftainship roles.
The feud between the Zanu PF legislator and Chief Nhema date back a long time with the MP accusing Chief Nhema of working against his political survival.
It is alleged that Chief Nhema is campaigning for one James Makiya to take over the seat from Chakona in the 2018 elections.
“Nhema is all over the place fighting Zanu PF as if he does not know chiefs should not be involved in political issues. He has been conducting rallies in Ward 9, 14 and 15 and behind my back.
“Even if he says he is campaigning for Zanu PF, he should leave his ways because the party has proper structures on how candidates are chosen. He should play his role as a chief and leave politics for politicians,” Chakona said.
A source said Chakona was also bitter of reports that Chief Nhema had recently stopped people from attending his rally.
“When Chakoma heard that Chief Nhema stopped district chairpersons from attending his rally to mobilise support for his preferred candidates ahead elections for provincial structures, he vowed to stop the chief from meddling in politics,” the source said.
When contacted for comment, Chief Nhema refused to shed light on his feud with Chakona.
“I hear he threatened to get rid of me but it will be unfair to give a comment since I have not met Chakona in person. Chakona has also not +approached me to tell me his complaints and above all, I don’t know anything about his allegations,” Nhema said.politics, top story

Party supporters boo Gumbo, disrupt PCC meeting
17 MPs plot to humiliate Hungwe, Mahofa

TellZim Reporters

23 Feb 2017
– Zanu PF is literally burning in Masvingo province – the home of factionalism – with the G40 and Team Lacoste factions engaging in ugly fights as they select the new provincial executive today (Thursday).
There was drama at the Masvingo Showgrounds on Sunday during the Provincial Coordinating Committee when newly-appointed acting Masvingo provincial chairperson, Jorum Gumbo came face to face with factionalism.
Gumbo was chairing the PCC meeting but G40 sympathisers booed him before breaking into song and dance to protest against Gumbo’s supposed bias towards Team Lacoste.
Gumbo had to abruptly stop the meeting in order to avoid further chaos.
The youth and members of the women’s league fervently sang the contentious Kumagumo kune nyaya song as if to tell Gumbo that a harmonious end was not a given.
It was party national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere who rescued Gumbo when he stood up to make clarifications and additions to what Gumbo had said.
Gumbo wanted only three people from Masvingo’s seven districts to vote for the executive saying it was impossible for all members in the district structures to vote.
However, it was Kasukuwere’s intervention which brought joy to the G40 faction when he said all the 120 district members would be allowed to vote.
It all started when Gutu South legislator, Dr Paul Chimedza stood up and asked Gumbo to clarify on the composition of the electoral college.
Gumbo tried to evade the question but Dr Chimedza insisted that he be answered. A visibly angry Gumbo threatened Dr Chimedza and asked him to sit down but in an open display of defiance, more MPs stood up in support of Dr Chimedza.
Bikita South MP Jeppy Jaboon tried in vain to be given a chance to make a contribution during the deliberations as Masvingo West MP Ezra Chadzamira, who is the Team Lacoste candidate for chairmanship, kept on pulling him down. As a result Jaboon spent half of the time seated on Chadzamira’s lap as the two fought to stop each other from making contributions.
A day before the chaotic PCC meeting, a total of 17 MPs aligned to the G40 had held a closed door meeting at Flamboyant Hotel where they planned to humiliate Team Lacoste kingpins; Josaya Hungwe and Shuvai Mahofa.
The guest of honour at the meeting was politburo member Daniel Shumba who is also MP for Masvingo Urban. Retired Colonel Mutero Johanne Masanganise, who is the G40 candidate for chairmanship, was given time to explain what he was going to do once elected chairperson.
On the other hand, Team Lacoste held two meetings, one in Chivi while the other one was hosted by Shuvai Mahofa at her Rhodene home.
The Thursday polls will see the stronger faction taking over the provincial leadership.politics

Gweru, Masvingo reject constitution amendment

22 Feb 2017 – GWERU – Residents of Gweru and Masvingo have vehemently rejected the proposed first amendment to the Constitution of Zimbabwe saying the bill would give too much power to the President if it sails through.
Speaking at a Fortune Chasi-led Parliamentary Portfolio Committee engagement meeting held at Gweru Theatre on Monday, residents said the proposed amendments were undemocratic.
“I am surprised government wants to curtail the orderly interview processes of the JSC (Judicial Service Commission) in the appointment of the Chief Justice. This is an attempt to consolidate the dictatorship,” said one Vincent Muhari.
Another participant accused the Ministry of Justice of attempting to undermine constitutional limitations to executive authority.
“The President must not be anywhere near the selection of the Chief Justice. The JSC should hold interviews and the best should be appointed Chief Justice,” said another participant.
At the Civic Centre in Masvingo, residents booed committee leader Ziyambi Ziyambi, saying the committee must remove President Robert Mugabe first before they can fiddle with the young constitution.
“Before amending the constitution, you should remove Mugabe and his government because no one is happy with him. Why search for mistakes when no one is complaining? Deal with real issues.
“Go and tell police to arrest robbers terrorizing this country and stop stealing and killing people at roadblocks. You are sleeping in hotels wasting money doing useless consultations. Use the money to fix potholes along Masvingo-Betbridge road instead.
“You know that 2018 is around the corner so you want to rig elections again and use a pliant Chief Justice to rule in your favour. Just go back and tell whoever sent you that Masvingo said stop it now,” said one angry participant.
The Masvingo Human Rights Trust (MHRT) has also released a statement condemning the proposed changes.
“MHRT is disheartened by the apparent voracious appetite by the government to amend the law of the land just over three years since it became operational on 22 August 2013 but is at the same time lethargic with regards to the alignment of various laws to the same constitution,” MHRT said.
The bill partly says “The Chief Justice…of the High Court shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the JSC…Provided that, for the avoidance of doubt, it is declared that the decision of the President as to such appointment shall be final.”

22 Feb 2017 – MASVINGO – City of Masvingo has resolved to spend more than half a million US dollars to purchase 15 vehicles for deputy directors and for other uses, TellZim News can reveal.
Masvingo City Town Clerk confirmed through his office representative that the Finance Committee meeting held on February 23, 2017 resolved that the Isuzu open trucks and Mazda BT 50 club cabs have been procured from Pazza Busters and Willowvale Motors respectively.
“Council is set to buy new vehicles eight of which will be service vehicles and five for deputy directors. The total cost of the vehicles is US$514 900 and they will soon be delivered to the local governing authority,” Gusha’s office said.
TellZim News is reliably informed that council management and councillors clashed at some point with councillors insisting that service delivery vehicles be given priority.
“Management and councillors clashed over this issue during the previous full council meeting committee session where councillors were of the opinion that service vehicles should come first.
“We do not know what they have decided as of now but councillors stood firm vehicles for deputy directors should come after the procurement of service vehicles noting that council is there to serve the community and should prioritise things that benefit the community first,” a source said.
City of Masvingo has been on a spending spree despite huge service shortfalls which include the incomplete and now forgotten Mucheke Trunk Sewer project.
Last week, TellZim News reported how he council had paid about US$100 000 to Treasure Consultants Limited and Ncube Burrow (Pvt) Ltd to settle a land servicing dispute.local, top stories

Mwenezi Government High School exceeds expectations in ‘O’ Levels

TellZim Reporter

19 Feb 2017 – MWENEZI – Despite accepting all pupils who look for a secondary school place, including those that would not have done so well in their Grade Seven exams, Mwenezi Government High School has exceeded all expectations and achieved an overall 58 percent pass rate in the 2016 ‘O’ Level exams.
The results are a huge improvement for Mwenezi Government High School because in the 2015 ‘O’ Level exams, the school registered a 48 percent pass rate.
Many public schools are grappling with inadequate resources but over the years, Mwenezi Government High School has progressively built a reputation of making the best of the little that is available.
If anything, the results testify to the fact that dedication to hard work, and not the availability of resources alone, is the recipe for a successful academic grooming process.
Mwenezi Government High School head; Mr C Chuma said the school is looking forward to build upon their current successes and elevate the name of Mwenezi Government High School to greater heights.
“We are happy with these results that we worked very hard for. They serve as a motivation for the school to continue striving for even better results that we know can only come through hard work and improving the conditions of learning,” said Chuma.
Of the five pupils who did exceptionally well; the highest was Hlanalani Chauke who wrote 10 subjects and obtained ten As. He was followed by four others with 9 As each, one being a girl.
The headmaster thanked all staff members for working together and playing their respective roles to create the current success story.
“Unlike other schools, we are not selective in our enrolment process; we accommodate everyone. I therefore give credit to all our staff members for this well-deserved success,” said Chuma.education

Blessing Chibvongodze

TellZim Reporter

19 Feb 2017 – The first Fern Valley Academy student to sit for her ‘O’ Levels last year has passed all the subjects she sat for thus helping to grow the reputation of the private school as an academic institution of note.
Blessing Chibvongodze sat for her Maths, Integrated Science and Commerce exams in November 2016 and passed all the subjects.
Earlier on in June, Chibvongodze had written four other subjects to gauge her preparedness and passed all of them and is now looking forward to continue with her education at ‘A’ Level.
“I am proud of Fern Valley Academy for giving me excellent learning conditions. The teachers are excellent and so are the facilities. I can’t think of any other school where one can have better learning conditions,” said Chibvongodze.
Fern Valley Academy principal, Luckson Ndlovu said he was delighted that the first fruits of the school’s hard work are already becoming visible.
“We have a culture of hard work at Fern Valley and we are particular about the quality of education that our children receive. The sky is the limit for us as we move forward to grow our brand,” said Ndlovu.
Located in the new suburb of Victoria Ranch, Fern Valley opened its door in January 2016 but has quickly risen as one of the best schools with excellent facilities.education
