23 Feb 2017 – CHIREDZI – Problems at Chiredzi General Hospital are getting worse with revelations that there is a dire shortage of maternal beds, a problem which has seen pregnant mothers sleeping on the floor.
Provincial Medical Director (PMD), Dr Amadeus Shamu has pleaded with companies to intervene and support the hospital.
He said shortage of resources in the whole health delivery system had led to problems in public health institutions.
“We still have a challenge with regards to the availability of resources. I will assess the actual extent of the problems at the hospital. We do however encourage Public Private Partnerships to address problems at our health institutions,” said Dr Shamu.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHIRRA) also pleaded with businesses in Chiredzi to come to the rescue of the most critical health institution in the district.
CHIRRA chairperson, Jonathan Muusha Mpamombe said his organisation was saddened that residents and other patients from around the district are getting very poor service at the hospital.
“Since the Minister (of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa) visited last year, no steps have been taken to address the issue. Some women in the maternity ward are giving birth while sleeping on the floor.
“We are asking for volunteers to come and help the hospital,” said Mupamombe.health
