22 Feb 2017 – MASVINGO – City of Masvingo has resolved to spend more than half a million US dollars to purchase 15 vehicles for deputy directors and for other uses, TellZim News can reveal.
Masvingo City Town Clerk confirmed through his office representative that the Finance Committee meeting held on February 23, 2017 resolved that the Isuzu open trucks and Mazda BT 50 club cabs have been procured from Pazza Busters and Willowvale Motors respectively.
“Council is set to buy new vehicles eight of which will be service vehicles and five for deputy directors. The total cost of the vehicles is US$514 900 and they will soon be delivered to the local governing authority,” Gusha’s office said.
TellZim News is reliably informed that council management and councillors clashed at some point with councillors insisting that service delivery vehicles be given priority.
“Management and councillors clashed over this issue during the previous full council meeting committee session where councillors were of the opinion that service vehicles should come first.
“We do not know what they have decided as of now but councillors stood firm vehicles for deputy directors should come after the procurement of service vehicles noting that council is there to serve the community and should prioritise things that benefit the community first,” a source said.
City of Masvingo has been on a spending spree despite huge service shortfalls which include the incomplete and now forgotten Mucheke Trunk Sewer project.
Last week, TellZim News reported how he council had paid about US$100 000 to Treasure Consultants Limited and Ncube Burrow (Pvt) Ltd to settle a land servicing dispute.local, top stories
