Mugabe angers Masvingo

TellZim Reporter

MASVINGO – President Robert Mugabe angered the late Vice President Simon Muzenda’s family and the entire Masvingo community last week after he failed to turn-up for the official opening of the KwaVaMuzenda heritage site in Mucheke despite the fact that the late VP’s widow, Maud had waited for Mugabe for three days.
It was, however, Communication Technology minister, Supa Mandiwanzira who carried the day on Saturday when Mugabe finally made it to Mucheke where he officially opened a tiny information centre at Chikato Post Office before making a dramatic U-turn without proceeding to the heritage site.
The information centre is only a stone-throw away from the late VP Muzenda’s old round huts that have now been converted into a museum.
Family members including the late VP’s widow, some ministers, Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Vice Chancellor Prof Rungano Zvobgo and the community had eagerly waited three days for Mugabe to officially open the museum.
The people in Masvingo said it was sad to realize that Mugabe snubbed ‘the Soul of the Nation’ who immensely contributed in the liberation struggle.
Muzenda family spokesperson and Member of Parliament (MP) for Gutu West constituency, Tongai Muzenda said the family was shocked by Mugabe’s no-show.
“It came as a shock to the family. We waited for three days for the President to come only to see (Culture and Heritage) Minister (Abednico) Ncube coming alone and, to make matters worse, there was no explanation as to why the President did not come.
“My mother was equally shocked because the information that we had indicated that the President was going to officially open that house -turning it into a national heritage site,” said a bitter Muzenda.
Muzenda, who seemed to be at loss for words, said he was going to approach Zanu PF Masvingo provincial leadership for explanation.
“Ma1 chaiwo my brother, the President was so near and yet he was far away. I will take this up because as I always say, factional politics has no room when we talk about my father’s contribution to the development of this country,” added Muzenda.
On Thursday last week, the Muzenda family and some ministers that include Josaya Hungwe spent the better part of the day waiting – in vain – for Mugabe to visit house number R36 in Zimuto street in Mucheke where the late VP used to stay before and in the early days of the liberation struggle.
The waiting continued on Friday through to Saturday when the drama ended with Mugabe opting to make a U-turn at Chikato Post office.
Analysts said Mugabe showed his true colours of not respecting people from Masvingo.
Respected historian, Dr Takavafira Zhou said Mugabe hates Kangas with passion and he does not respect anyone from Masvingo. Zhou said even the selection of ministers from Masvingo speaks volumes on how Mugabe rates the people from the ancient city.
“Mugabe opted to go to Supa Mandiwanzira’s project because they are relatives – that’s how selfish Mugabe is … furthermore, that move was a blow to Mnangagwa and all the heroes from Masvingo. You cannot downplay the role played by Muzenda in the liberation struggle and, by snubbing the Muzenda family; Mugabe wanted to water down Muzenda’s significance. He does not want anyone from Masvingo, dead or alive, to get lime light,” said Dr Zhou.
“Muzenda was known as the ‘Soul of the Nation’ and Mugabe told the gathering at his late VP’s funeral that he actually lost his right hand-man. Now we are surprised when he decides to snub the family. I am sure Muzenda – wherever he is, he should be very angry after realising Mugabe’s true colours,” said another source.
Some people who spoke to this publication said government officials did not want Mugabe to go in the R section of Mucheke suburbs because they feared that he would come face to face with real Zimbabwean life where wretched people live in miserable squalor.
“The fact that he was addressing people facing squalid houses at Chikato known derisively as misana yenzou due to their dome shape was enough embarrassment. Mugabe is made to believe that everything is well in Zimbabwe but going to R36 was going to show the old man that he has ruined this country,” said another source.
Some residents were angry saying Mugabe’s visit left them poorer since their market stalls at Farai Community bar opposite Chikato Post Office were demolished as aides realized they would be an eyesore for the President.news

Nkomo warned me about Mugabe – Gumbo

BIKITA – Former Zanu PF spokesperson who has since joined Joyce Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF); Rugare Gumbo last weekend said the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo warned him not to trust Mugabe but he did not listen.
Speaking during a ZimPF rally held at Gangararwe business centre in Bikita, Gumbo said even regional nationalist leaders like Samora Machel and Julius Nyerere had never genuinely trusted Mugabe.
“The late VP Nkomo visited me when I was imprisoned in Zambia sometime in 1977. He asked me who our leader was and I told him it was Mugabe. He never hid his opinion to me and he told me never to trust that man but I didn’t listen but I defended Mugabe instead.
“It’s not only VP Nkomo who warned people that Mugabe was not a good leader but Machel and Nyerere as well. I then wonder how are all these people supporting and putting trust in Mugabe thinking when the likes of us who have travelled with him all the way have left. Ask yourself where you will end up with this man if you are still blind-folded,” Gumbo said to loud applause.
“I also want to write this down and recall it as history one day. Mugabe and his team will never win any election, no one loves them anymore and this includes the police and soldiers. More so, as long as that old man is ruling don’t expect any change,” he said.
Gumbo also justified Kudakwashe Gopo’s candidature in the upcoming by-election saying his selection was above board.
He dismissed controversies and intra-party disagreements over whether to participate or boycott the election as per the position of the National Electoral Reforms Agenda (Nera) in which ZimPF is a signatory.
“As ZimPF, we formed this party to contest in elections because that’s what politics is all about; contesting, winning and delivering to the people. It is this key objective that saw us fielding Gopo as our candidate here in Bikita.
“Some were against us taking part in this by-election but little did we know they were representatives from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who just wanted to cause confusion. I urge you all to vote for the young man,” Gumbo said.news

Kasukuwere calls Makova, mocks assaulted youths

Col Claudious Makova

BIKITA – As the specter political violence returns to Bikita West ahead of the constituency’s parliamentary by-election, Zanu PF National Political Commissar has reportedly accused two members of People First who were beaten at a food aid meeting of having gate-crushed a Zanu PF meeting.
This was revealed by ZimPF provincial chairperson, Claudious Makova who said Kasukuwere had phoned him blaming Struggle Nyahunda and Gurwe Tsvuru of provocation by coming to a purely Zanu PF function.
An unconvinced Makova, however, said Kasukuwere should have apologised instead of making baseless allegations.
“I am actually surprised. Kasukuwere called me when the story went viral in media circles but never really apologised. He instead accused Nyahunda and Tsvuru of gate-crushing their event but I told him there was nothing like that since the event was only a food distribution exercise.
“I was also surprised when he told me that the guys had gate-crushed a Zanu PF meeting but as I am fully aware that it was a food distribution program by a village head. I actually had to send those guys to the venue to monitor proceedings as it has become a norm that people who fail to produce registration slips are denied food aid,” Makova said.
Makova went on to reveal how Kasukuwere pleaded with him to return to Zanu PF.
“As he told me how much he also want peaceful elections; Kasukuwere persuaded me to come back to Zanu PF which I told him I would not do even in another life. Why would I go back to a party which has no people at heart?
“They have become unpopular to the extent that some of the youth they send to attack people defy their directives. It was only two young men who confronted my boys as the rest of them backed off. One of the attackers is an ex-convict and that defines the kind of people Zanu PF associates itself with,” Makova added.
The Community Tolerance, Reconciliation and Development Trust (Cotrad) earlier this year claimed that human rights violations in the province have gone up by 61 percent.
A thousand of its survey respondents indicated that the ruling Zanu PF, using security forces, traditional leaders and party youth, was violating human rights through unlawful arrests, violence and partisan food distribution.news

I don’t take orders from Hungwe : Mjr Gen Rugeje

The most senior army official from Masvingo province, Major-General Engelbert Rugeje has scoffed at the claims by Zanu PF politiburo member and Psychomotor minister, Josaya Hungwe, that he can hire him for political violence come election time.
While addressing Zanu PF members at Masvingo Polytechnic last month, Hungwe said Zanu PF would easily hire soldiers to thwart opposition political activities during elections. He further informed the gathering that the party would easily invite Rugeje to help Zanu PF.
However, Rugeje told this publication that he does not take orders from any politician including the Psychomotor minister.
“Look, I am an army General, I don’t get orders from minister Hungwe. I respect Hungwe as a minister but he has no right to tell people that he would hire me…on what grounds can Hungwe hire me. I get orders from my bosses and Hungwe is not one of them,” said Mjr-Gen Rugeje.
He refuted allegations that he was fanning violence in Bikita.
“I come from Bikita and I am usually in my rural home whenever I am not at work. The people of Bikita like me because they know that I am not violent at all. I respect the law and I know that in any case, I should be protecting Zimbabweans,” added Mjr-Gen Rugeje.
The army boss said members of the opposition and some politicians were out to tarnish his image.
“Some people especially members of the opposition are trying hard to soil my name for no reason. I hear them saying I once fired a gun in Mucheke stadium in 2008 – that’s a blue lie,” Mjr-Gen Rugeje said.news

Mnangagwa warns corrupt officials

…calls for unity
Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired warning shots at all government officials who engage in corrupt deals saying government will descend heavily on all culprits regardless of the post they hold.
Giving a vote of thanks at the just ended Zanu PF 16th National Conference, Mnangagwa told President Robert Mugabe that Zanu PF was solidly behind his call for zero tolerance for corruption as it was the major impediment to development in the country.
“Your Excellency, your encouragement in this respect and the need for zero tolerance for corruption is in line with the resolutions of the various party organs.
“As delegates, we laud your abhorrence of such vices and pledge to redress them head on. It is, therefore, integral that all members of the party, irrespective of status, desist from this retrogressive behaviour and lead by example.
“The party and government will not hesitate to take necessary measures against perpetrators of this vice. We should remember that, Mushonga unovava ndiwo unorapa,” said Mnangagwa.
He called for unity and said all the conflicts consuming the ruling party are all creations of imperialists who want to effect regime change.
“Unity of the party and its leadership is its lifeblood. It is this unity which ensured the successful prosecution of the armed struggle for liberation and saw us ward off the concerted, relentless machinations by agents of regime change,” Mnangagwa said.
He added that Zanu PF’s constitution has to be translated into various languages to ensure that members understand its dictates.
“It is vital that we translate the party’s constitution to various languages to facilitate understanding of the rules, regulations and duties of members of the party.
“In the same vein, we must reject the imperialist aggression which manifests itself in setting leaders against each other,” said Mnangagwa.news

MASVINGO:-A Christian feature film, Crucibles, produced by Masvingo-based production house, Glory Media, premiered last week Saturday at Charles Austin Theatre.
Written and directed by Final Muzerengwa, also known as Fisha, Crucibles becomes the first Christian feature films to come out of Masvingo, a place known for producing mostly comedies and crime films.
Charles Austin Theatre was packed to capacity well before the movie started, with the viewership coming mainly from the Christian community as well as the entertainment industry.
In an interview, Muzerengwa said he was humbled by the diversity of the audience as he had expected only younger people.
“I was nervous when I saw a number of elderly people getting into the theatre because I had not expected the film to generate that much interest among them but I was humbled when I saw them staying until the end,” Muzerengwa said
“The turnout was amazing because we had a full house and the fact that most of the people stayed until the end proved that the film is good,” he said.
The storyline revolves around the struggles that young people have to face in order to keep their marriages afloat against trials and tribulations.
Award winning director and actor Charles Munganasa plays Mthandazo in the film, a man who gives his wife Rufaro, played by Kudzai Takawira, a hard time because she could not conceive.
The young couple then goes through a lot and the husband gets involved with criminals who later kill his mistress who also happens to be another man’s estranged wife.
The behind-the-scenes crew is comprised of the Wezhira TV crew, which includes Howard Mpofu, Welcome Nhariswa, Prince Dube and Patience Chimhamhiwa
Most of the cast are people from the Christian community, complimented by known rapper HD, Charles Munganasa, Nicole Jamu and Reverend Sithandazile Mhlanga, wife to Glory Temple founder Reverend Ntobeko Mhlanga.news

the Bikita West by-election gathers momentum, TellZim News has been informed.
Confirming the incident to TellZim News, Mjr-Gen Rugeje said he was yet to get a full report from police officers who are investigating the matter.
“I have received the sad news that my house in Bikita was gutted by fire today morning (Sunday), … I am yet to get a full report of what happened because I am not there. Although I do not have a suspect as of now, maybe some opposition members might have a hand.
“One thing that I want people to know is that I am not a violent person, I am always in my rural home when I am off duty. It is sad that newspapers have reported that I am violent when I never did anything wrong,” said Mjr-Gen Rugeje.
He said he was told that something exploded in the spare bedroom of the house.
The cement brick and mortar house and other property destroyed in the inferno were estimated to be worth between US$5000-7000.
“I heard that something exploded from one of my spare bed rooms. The house was solar powered; I am not sure what could be the cause of the fire,” added Mjr-Gen Rugeje.
Rugeje scoffed at reports that Zanu PF senior member Josaya Hungwe promised to hire him for violence during elections.
“I don’t take orders from Minister Hungwe… I respect him because he is a minister but my orders don’t come from the Pyschomotor minister. I report to my bosses in the army and to the Minister of Defence so you must not write anything just because someone said it in public. I will never be hired for violence, I am there to protect Zimbabweans and promote development,” added Mjr-Gen Rugeje.
Turning to opposition and independent candidates in the Bikita West by-election who were crying foul over his presence in Bikita, Rugeje said he has never participated in any violent activity.
“What surprises me is that those opposition candidates have refuted that they hold anything bad against me. Some people are just lying in a bid to tarnish my name. I am now the victim,” added Mjr-Gen Rugeje.

Zanu PF terror begins in Bikita West

… two ZimPF election agents assaulted
Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – Zanu PF’s threats to unleash violence in the forthcoming Bikita West by-election against all opposition supporters and sympathisers became real on Tuesday after two Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) election agents were assaulted by Zanu PF youths who claimed the agents had provoked them by showing up at their meeting.
Struggle Nyahunda and Gurwe Tsvuru showed up at a Zanu PF meeting at Hozvi Primary School in Ward 10 where national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and Gutu south legislator Paul Chimedza were drumming up support for their candidate Beauty Chabaya.
ZimPF claims the meeting had been called for the distribution of agricultural inputs by chiefs which Zanu PF reportedly hi-jacked.
Nyahunda told TellZim News they did not know Zanu PF had hi-jacked the gathering to canvass for votes.
“When the agricultural input programme was launched, it was made clear that the chiefs will do the distribution. Here in Bikita, Zanu PF has hijacked the programme which they now use as a campaign tool.
“Zanu PF knows they have no support hence they are using the maize seeds as a leverage to lure people to their rallies. We only heard there was seed distribution at Hozvi school and we showed up only to be victimised by Zanu PF youths,” said Nyahunda.
ZimPF national spokesperson Jealous Mawarire condemned the assault and called on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to come out and condemn such barbaric actions.
“Our agents had attended a meeting called by Chief Mukanganwi where villagers were to be given maize seed. The meeting was later hijacked and addressed by Kasukuwere who was in the area.
“We are told that when Kasukuwere arrived, the Zanu PF chairman in that ward ordered the assault on Nyahunda and Gurwe. This thuggish behaviour by Zanu PF is what we all right thinking Zimbabweans want to put an end to.
“It also brings to the fore the need for ZEC to be given powers to disqualify political parties from any electoral contest if they show a violent predisposition,” said Mawarire.
He added that the police should be professional and arrest all the culprits including Kasukuwere who has made it clear that he is a political thug.
“We have come up with strategies to make sure that this will not happen again. I cannot tell you because they would seize to be strategies if Zanu PF gets to know them. I assure you we have people on the ground who will make sure such incidences will not occur to anyone again,” said Mawarire.
Zanu PF Masvingo provincial youth boss Nobert Ndaarombe said he was not aware of any acts of violence by his party.
“I was in the constituency in ward 22b campaigning and I have not received any reports of violence perpetrated by our people,” said Ndaarombe.news

Welcome to Ngwena stronghold, Cdes!

0
Welcome to Ngwena stronghold! Here we speak no other gospel except for praising Ngwena. We love him, like him and would do anything to protect our and his interests. In Ngwena we trust!
Gogo Shuvai Mahofa and Josaya Hungwe can bluntly tell you kuti zvimwe zvese zvemadzana mbwanana hatidi kuno – especially if it’s coming from Professor Jonathan ‘Robin Hood’ Moyo, Saviour ‘Stands’ Kasukuwere, Patrick ‘Muzukuru’ Zhuwao and Phelekezela ‘Hotel’ Mphoko.
Kkkkkk by the way, you all know Mapombi is a gentlema haavanzi; the above-mentioned four Cdes are a big joke. No wonder why Chris Mutsvangwa has no kind words for them. Hanzi Prof Moyo is the least qualified to talk about succession in Zanu PF. Hanzi a war deserter and thief kkkkkk asi mukoma Chris musadaro imi tambai zvakanaka nevamwe. But do you really mean $400 000 just disappeared the same way our $15 billion disappeared and nothing has been done? Tinyareiwo varume nevakadzi imi.
Mapombi gives enough respect to Mutsvangwa; he is so blunt zvinotobhowa so. Hanzi had it not been that Zhuwao is related to President Robert Mugabe, the dreadlocked politician wouldn’t be known in political circles. Hanzi Zhuwao should be grateful to War vets because they fought for freedom which now allows him to wear dread which was impossible during Ian Smith regime kwaaaaa!
Anyway, enough of these successionists or are they secessionists? I mean this Gushungo 40 (G40) faction, which according to Mutsvangwa, is led by war deserters, thieves and corrupt people. But at least they now know that know G4o business is tolerated here in Masvingo. Hanzi itirai kuChiweshe kana kuMazowe zvobva zvaperera ikoko. Mind you dziva guru idiva kamwe ukadzokera kepiri unowana Ngwena dzasvinura.
Unfortunately, Mapombi was denied entry to the venue of the conference because the officials denied to accredit her hanzi hatidi vapengo pamusangano wedu. Am I really crazy?  I am this poor because of this government and Zanu PF – I cannot afford a decent meal let alone buying decent clothes. Ndosvika ndakapfeka mamvemve moti I am crazy and as a result you cannot accredit me. Hooo; asi zivai mugaro mwena maCdes!
Anyway, I want to warn my fellow Cdes especially from the G40 faction – you cannot run the show here; kuno ndekweTeam Lacoste. Zvekuimba Mazezuru unconquerable munozviitira kuChiweshe not kuno. Kuno munotoimba kuti Lacoste unconquerable! Understand?
Your ‘Mafioso resolutions’ are not welcome here.  Your inclusion of a ‘woman in the presidium resolution’ is not welcome here unless you say the female candidate will replace Mphokho. Kkkkk ko vakazobuda here muhotera Cde ava?  But vakapinda seiko pauVP? Mapombi strongly feels Simon ‘SK’ Khaya-Moyo was the right candidate for the post though.
In fact, history had taught us kuti national chairperson position is reserved for the Ndebeles in Zanu PF and that particular person would eventually become second vice-president in the event that the incumbent dies or becomes incapacitated. We have precedencies of Joseph Msipa and John Nkomo. Anyway, we all know what happened, and it’s justified why SK suddenly went into hibernation immediately after the 2014 congress. SK is probably the worst Zanu PF spokesperson in the history of the party, but Mapombi understands him – he must be bitter. He should be given more time to fully recover from that shock. Kkkkkk that is Mugabe and Zanu PF for you Cde Khaya-Moyo.
Mapombi is a gentleman anyway, haavanzi. Vafana veG40 ava vatiurayira musangano. Imagine Kasukuwere was in Bikita watching people being beaten up? What picture is he painting about the party? That Zanu PF is a violent party? We should promote peace and not political violence. This is not right.
Anyway, Prof Moyo don’t even dare post on your twitter anything negative about Ngwena at least for the time you will be here for the conference. Kuno tinokugadzirisa unozviita wadzokera kuHarare. You can twit telling us where is the $400 000 you took from Zimdef, not anything else. We cannot tolerate your stupid twits – please be warned!
Gogo Mahofa and uncle Hungwe have been blunt that Masvingo province belongs to Team Lacoste.  Ask Amasa Nhenjana the acting provincial chairperson and his provincial political commissar Jeppy Jaboon they tried kumhanya neG40 but to no avail. The duo can confess that life is hell here. Even my young brother Norbert Ndavarombe can tell you that. Kkkkk asi mamwe mazita so – Ndava Rombe kkkkk.
It’s almost lunch time guys allow me to go ndondokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. Manje anodyika here ini ndange ndakambozviudza kuti I will be eating mabonzo at the conference. But before I go, I appeal to Dr Grace Mugabe to come to Chitima Market. People here are a disgrace – they named a filthy place like Chitima market after Dr Grace Mugabe. But since I told you that this is Mnangagwa’s stronghold, Mapombi was not surprised by this move to name such a filfthy place Dr Grace Mugabe Trading Centre. But at least visit the place and see for yourself otherwise vanhu vanozoti Mapombi anotaurisa.
Chokwadi munhu anopfeka ring ye$1.3 million obva aitiwa associated with a filthy place like Chitima market? Ukaonawo isu vana Mapombi tava kuona kuti nzvimbo iyi ine tsvina kuzoti vanhu kwavo?
By the way, did you manage to recover your millions from that guy Dr Amai? Simba and Stern where are you – you should not allow this thing to happen to our mother. Don’t worry Dr Amai; our boys will take care of everything. But please do visit Chitima market if you happen to get time. Mboko imboko! mapombi

Sex workers embrace bond notes

Tinomutenda Midzi

MASVINGO – Commercial sex workers have embraced the introduction of bond notes saying they are making cash readily available and customers now in a better position to pay for services.
“We have passed hard times for sure. Our customers used to complain that have no hard cash while others would beg saying, ‘please can you lower the price a little bit since there is no money these days.'”
“Things are no longer the same. With the introduction of bond notes and coins, cash is readily available and business is back on fire,” said one sex worker who identified herself as Chihera.
Others had a special praise for bond coins which they say are making change to be readily available.
“The introduction of new bond coins has made it easier to get change. Things are tight so we have to negotiate. If my customer pleads with me saying he has only US$5 yet he wants a quickie and still remain with money for transport back home, I will just give him back a 50 cent bond coin and both parties will benefit,” said another who chose to be called maMoyo.
Other sex workers, however, think bond notes lack durable features saying that alone can disturb their business.
“Mari yavo inobuda ink and isusu basa redu nderehusiku. Just imagine ndashanda husiku hwese ndobva ndanaiwa nemvura ndaakuenda kumba ink yese yobuda. Ndobva ndadzokera futi pazero here. Dai vakamaita macoin ese zvaive nani,” one of the sex workers at Marry Me Club in Rujeko said.
Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor, John Mangudya introduced bond notes and coins after the realisation that Zimbabwe’s cash-starved economy needed a quick fix with the hope that the new surrogate currency will solve the liquidity crisis.
Public opinion, however, seems to be vastly against the notes and they have so far failed to end the long bank queues and delays in paying civil servants salaries and bonuses.news
