Mapombi wonders if it is the same President Mugabe whose government has been giving a deaf ear to a call for electoral reforms by opposition political parties, who is now being vocal on the need for UN reforms. All along Mapombi thought the word ‘Reforms’ do not exist in Zanu PF and its government’s vocabulary.
Well, Mapombi now knows that Zanu PF and Mugabe know the meaning of the word but are reluctant to implement the electoral reforms. There have been series of demonstrations by opposition political parties under the National Election Reform Agenda (Nera) banner, demanding electoral reforms but our government professed ignorance over the matter. They totally ignored the call for electoral reforms but surprisingly, Mr President wants UN to implement certain reforms and even threatened to pull out if the organization ignores his call. Kkkkkk charity begins at home Mr President; it’s very important that a leader always lead by example. Zimbabweans are calling for electoral reforms and please implement that before you call UN to do the same. Instead of implementing electoral reforms, you are busy setting your police on innocent souls – vana vevanhu vanzwa nemateargas and baton sticks simpley because they peacefully demanded electoral reforms. Hahaha forget! And that will be a big mistake to pull out of UN – we need the organization more than it needs Zimbabwe. Nemiwo mapurisa dzungu munoriwanza how can you beat up people who are calling for a noble cause?

Back to my issue, Mapombi tried but in vain to figure out what has gotten into the mind of President Mugabe. Do we really need to pull out of UN? Is this really going to benefit Zimabwe in any way? Gariswa munotozivawo kuti kune mareforms which should be implemented? Let us start with electoral reforms and thereafter we will rally behind you when you push for reforms at UN. But for now, you are fighting a lone battle Mr President – muUN hatibude zvekumhanya!

The Salvation Army’s Chief of the Staff Commissioner Brian Peddle and Commissioner Rosalie Peddle (World Secretary for Women's Ministries) will be coming to Zimbabwe to lead the long awaited 125 anniversary celebrations slated for 29 September to 02 October 2016 at Glamis Arena, Harare Agricultural Show Grounds.
The President of Zimbabwe, his excellence Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe will grace the event.
More than 70 000 soldiers from Zimbabwe Territory’s 18 divisions will throng the arena and there will be a hub of activity.
Special choral and brass groups expected to participate are from as far as Angola and the Zambia. The church's Chief of the will lead this congress. The congress will also feature the installation of the new territorial leaders, Commissioners Joash and Florence Malabi. Heads of denominations and all churches within the Army's ecumenical circles are also invited to attend this very important occasion.
Celebrations at divisional level has already been completed around the territory with the flag ceremonies held in all areas of the territory.

Care Insurance Brokers in partnership with Nicoz Diamond has embarked on a golf development drive in Masvingo as part of its social responsibility programme.
The initiative will see the two corporates sponsoring quarterly golf tournaments every year as a way of ploughing back into the community.
The insurance broker and risk management company, which has been in business for 14 years, offers all types of short term insurances from motor, property and pecuniary insurances.
The first tournament was played at Masvingo Golf Club on September 10, 2016 and attracted players from Hippo Halley, Roland Park and Renco Mine.
A total of 36 players participated in the tournament, which was won by a local player, Joseph Zawaira who scored 40 points playing off 14 handicap.
First runner up was Clemence Mativenga from Mutirikwi Golf Club (Renco) who scored 38 points playing off 14 handicap while another local, Shadreck Chisiiwa managed 37 points playing off 7 handicap.
Third runner up was Ambelal Gopal, playing off 17 handicap on 37 points, with Ziyaad Khan emerging as 4th runner up on 36 points off 12 handicap.
Bernard Badza from Zvishavane finished on 36 points off 12 handicap while Clifford Mumbengegwi, playing off 23 handicap bagged 36 points.
Skills longest drive on hole number 1 went to the captain of Mutirikwi Golf Club in Renco, Tawanda Nyamande, while hole number 17 was taken by Matthias Nyangani from Hippo Valley.
Nearest the pin on hole number 3 went to Thomas Mpofu from Renco with nearest the pin on number 18 was taken by Cephas Ngwenya from Masvingo Golf Club.
Two club pay outs went to Badza number 9, Willard Makazhe number 12, Mativenga number 9, Ngwenya number 18 and Thomas Mpofu number 3.

I mean if you are dealing with people with genuine concerns you have to relax a little bit and listen to their demands and not just threaten them and go to some summits. Medics challenged to guard against complacency

Headquarters 4 Infantry Brigade’s Troop Medics Course number 01/2016 came to an end on 16 September 16, with all the medical fraternity being challenged to guard against complacency as they are likely going to have rust.
This was said by the Brigade Major (BM) Major Espedito Machingauta on the graduation of twenty-three (23) students of 4 Field Ambulance Company. The course which ran for 16 weeks started on 30 May 2016 with a capacity of 25 students drawn from units under command and the Zimbabwe Republic Police subscribed eight students 3 females and 5 males, two students could not make it due to under-performance.
During the course, the students covered both theory and practical lessons that included first aid, basic nursing skills, basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, peer education and Civil Military Relations (CMR).
“Let me hasten to say that the knowledge you have acquired here should set you on the path for further medical courses. This implies that you have to continue practicing in the various medical inspection rooms and camp clinics, as constant practice is crucial in your career,” said Major Machingauta.
The overall best student was Constable Verna Nyazire of ZRP Masvingo rural. The event was attended by the Senior Medical Officer 4 Infantry Brigade Major Magadzire Matsvaire, Senior Nursing Officer Captain Paul Zvingoperepi, Deputy Senior Nursing Officer Captain John Makumire as well as the Officer-in-charge Zimuto Camp Clinic Inspector Nicholas Charumangwe.news
Civil Society the lifeblood of Nango: Zendakwaye

MASVINGO -The National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO) Southern Region chairperson, Zendakwaye Zendakwaye (pictured) has called for civil society to actively participate in Nango activities for the survival of the association.
Zendakwaye was speaking to representatives of various organisations that make up Nango at Alpha Cottages children home last week.
“The civil society should belong to Nango because it is responsible for the well-functioning of the association. We cannot have a vibrant Nango without vibrant stakeholders,” said Zendakwaye
Zendakwaye expressed concern that the organisation was performing poorly in the province because of lack of funding and appealed to all concerned stakeholders to do their part for the welfare of the organisation.
He also urged organisations to pay their annual subscription funds to enable the efficient running of Nango’s operations.
He encouraged members from the province to attend the 2016 Nango Annual General Meeting (AGM) and expo on September 30, describing the events as important platforms where people can express their views and share their visions.
Nango is the umbrella body of the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that are predominantly into social welfare and was formed back in 1962.
Zimra stifling SMEs growth, Nyoni told

GWERU – Formalising small to medium businesses is not an attractive option for prospective entrepreneurs because of the bureaucracy and corruption that haunts anybody who does that, Small to Medium Enterprises Development Minister, Sithembiso Nyoni has been told.
The minister heard this while on a meet-the-minister programme with small and medium business owners from the Midlands province in Gweru last week.
Allegations of corruption and parasitic revenue collection tactics were levelled against the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), National Social Security Authority (NSSA), National Employment Council (NEC) and Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF).
Zimra is generally considered the most corrupt institution among the pack, with the country’s borders being havens of shady dealings by officials.
Small and medium business owners raised issues about what they called government institutions’ habit of preying on SMEs.
Nyasha Moyo, who is into small scale agriculture, complained that formalising one’s business comes with no incentive as government systems makes it very expensive and financially burdensome.
“It seems formalisation of a business has become a crime because the moment you register your business you will be exposed to many revenue collectors,” said Moyo.
Other participants also complained of high levels of corruption by town councils in the allocation of land.
Small business owner, Trish Gove said it was difficult for housing cooperatives to do business because it has been five years since they were last allocated land with only those who are well-connected to council officials being given land.
“The problem with our town councils is that they are corrupt that is why they are failing to allocate the land to the rightful people,” said Gove.
Recently, it was reported that the cash-strapped Gweru City Council will lose US$5 million if it commissions the River Valley stands that were irregularly developed on the city's dump site.
Members of the artisanal miners also complained of police harassment and called on the minister to engage with the mines ministry to make their activities legal and avoid illegal gold panning.
Nyoni promised to look into the grievances of all SMEs so that a solution that is beneficial to both businesses and the government could be found.
Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce in Midlands, Bigboy Murenga acknowledged the grievances and expressed optimism Nyoni will work to find solutions.
A resolution was also made to formalise the Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCO) so as to know how much is in circulation.
It was also revealed that US$10 million was availed by the treasury to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to fund the SMEs nationwide.
Earlier this week, the RBZ also revealed that it had secured US$20 million to support production by small-scale miners amid a push to reach a 24 tonne output, close to the country’s historical peak.news

Masvingo – The Editor of TellZim News, Passmore Kuzipa cheated death when he escaped unhurt after being involved in an accident in Masvingo CBD on Monday morning.
Kuzipa’s BMW 5 Series was dragged for some few metres by a haulage truck at the corner Robert Mugabe Road and Simon Mazorodze Avenue.
Kuzipa, however, was very lucky to emerge from the accident scene virtually unscathed.
“I am well. I just had to go to the doctor to confirm if I had no internal injury but he has also confirmed that I am well. I thank God for pulling me out of a potentially deadly situation,” said Kuzipa.news
Residents condemn prepaid water meters

Chiredzi residents have blasted council proposals to introduce prepaid water meters which, if passed, will see residents buying coupons in order to access water.
United Chiredzi Residents and Rate payers Association (UCHRRA) chairman, Josphat Tizirai criticised the proposals saying they will create more unnecessary expenses for residents who are already financially burdened.
“The plan is appalling and we cannot accept it. It cost $400 to install a prepaid meter, so if council affords that why not invest the money in water infrastructure maintenance so we can have enough water? If they mean to say residents will foot the bill of the installations, how would we manage since we are already struggling to pay our current water expenses?” Tizirai said.
He said prepaid water meters would undermine public health since poor families would be forced to reduce their daily water consumption to levels that are lower than those recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“Studies that have been carried out show that using prepaid water meters leads to higher chances of outbreak of diseases such as dysentery and cholera and the poor are the most affected as they cannot afford to pay for the required units,” Tizirai said.
Other residents from wards 5 and 8 condemned the suggestions, saying prepaid water meters would increase inequality and poverty in the society.
“Prepaid meters mean water will become a commodity for the privileged and wealthy despite the fact that water is a basic commodity while access to it is considered a human right,” said one resident.

ZLP bemoans state of local governance

MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Liberators Platform (ZLP) has decried the lack of engagement between local authorities and the public saying stakeholders need to open communication channels to improve service delivery.
This was said by ZLP Director Wilson Nharingo while giving an update of the many engagement meetings his organisation has facilitated in the southern parts of the country.
ZLP is a community-based organisation with a special interest in matters of governance at local level and was formed in the early 2000s by veterans of the country’s liberation struggle who had become disenchanted by bad governance.
The aim is to improve local governance by facilitating dialogue between government and the public. The organisation has so far facilitated many engagement meetings between councils and residents in Chiredzi, Gwanda and other areas.
“We are an organisation formed by genuine war veterans that had seen how the government had abandoned liberation ideals so as to protect their selfish-interests. We had seen how war veterans had been manipulated to become partisan shock troops of the ruling party.
“The result of that bad governance is a state of paralysis is all areas of our life, with local governance suffering the most as there is rarely any dialogue between the public representatives and those they serve,” said Nharingo.
He also said ZLP was a project meant to rescue the war veterans brand which has been tarnished by divisive politics presided over by Zanu-PF.
“We wanted to clear the air that we were a violent lot that was invading farms and callously getting rid of white farmers and their workers. Genuine war veterans who experienced the pain of war and saw how its goals were betrayed will not engage in any form of violence.
“We also strive to spearhead peace projects in rural areas as they are most vulnerable to the shenanigans of unscrupulous politicians. We are running projects aimed at educating people on their fundamental human rights, and to lobby councils to articulate issue that affect residents,” Nharingo said.
Currently, ZLP is being funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) through the American International Republican Institute (IRI) for all its activities in Chiredzi and Gwanda.
The organisation intends to scale up its efforts to educate the people on their rights as enshrined in the constitution.
In the past some of the group’s work has been supported by German group GIZ.
“We are working to achieve five fundamental issues: freedom, democracy, social justice, peace and respect for human dignity,” Nharingo said.news
