Uproar over high charges for flea market refurbishment

0
Increase Gumbo

Chiredzi – There is growing discontent in Chiredzi after revelations that the town council is demanding that some informal traders pay US$150 to enable refurbishments of their small dilapidated flea market along Masasa road.
One of the flea market owners, Taurai Rasai said that the idea is good since the market was dilapidated but the money that is being talked about is too much.
“The idea of renovating the flea market is good, thumps up to the council but they are overcharging us…$150 dollars is way too much to renovate such a small flea market which only requires less than eight roofing sheets which cost eight dollars each,” said Rasai.
Other traders made it clear they were against the idea of paying the money, saying council should foot the bill from its existing revenue streams since the market stalls remain council property.
“Why should we pay an extra fee, it’s not like we are getting the flea market permanently, we pay rates every month and I think council should use that $15 we pay for rates to cater for the renovations,” said a trader.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) secretary Jonathan Muusha said he welcomed the renovations but urged council to build lasting structures, adding that CHRRA had agreed with council that renovations would be funded by a fraction of the rates that council collects every month.
He said he was surprised to learn that council now wants to charge traders more money for the same job.
Attempts to get a comment from Chiredzi town council chairman, Francis Moyo were fruitless as he said that he was not in a position to comment on such a development.
“What do you want to hear about the renovations…Ah I am not in a position to comment on that, look for somebody,” said Moyo before hanging his phone.news

Man jailed for slaughtering ‘goblin’

0

Davison Marenga

ZVISHAVANE – A man from Virima village, under chief Negoyi in Mberengwa was slapped with a nine year jail term by magistrate Storey Rushambwa after he was convicted on stock theft charges after he had slaughtered an ox he claimed was a goblin.
Honest Shoko (26) told the court that the complaint, Gladys Shoko, had convinced him the ox was actually a goblin and a courageous man was needed to slaughter it.
Honest then followed the beast to the pastures and killed it, took away both hint quarters and left everything else for Gladys as they had agreed to share the meat.
He said he was surprised to see police details coming to his homestead accusing him of stealing the beast.
The gallery was left in stitches when Honest said Gladys became angry after he took the parts she had wanted for herself.
“Gladys was not happy because I took the hint quarters which I later realised she also wanted but she had told me to take what I wanted. I’m surprised she got me arrested and accused me of stealing yet she is the one who sent me,” said Shoko.
It was the State case that on July 16, 2016 Shoko went to the pastures where he single-handedly slaughtered Gladys’ ox and vanished with both hint quarters.
After noticing that one of her cattle was missing, Gladys looked for it in the pastures where she found its carcass with missing parts.
She made a police report pointing Honest as her main suspect as he had often threatened burning her homestead and killing her cattle accusing her of being a witch.
A search was made at Honest’s house where fresh meat was found leading to his subsequent arrest.  As this was not enough, Honest bluntly told Gladys in the presence of the police that he was not yet done with her as he will burn her and kill the rest of the cattle.
In passing judgment, Rushambwa said he was not going to have mercy on someone who feigned insanity, saying the accused knew what he was doing and had to pay for his deeds.

‘Pin code’ corruption at Beitbridge

0
Moses Ziyambi
A Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) senior officer at Beitbridge border post has gained notoriety for corruption; brazenly confiscating goods and demanding bribes to release them, TellZim News can reveal.
Going by the nickname ‘Pincode’, the senior staffer has grown infamous with travellers and cross-border bus drivers, most of whom have described him as ruthless and untouchable.
With distressed travellers using the border post often enduring painstaking delays of up to nine hours in situations blamed on Zimra corruption and incompetence, things are  worse if Pincode is on duty.
“He is very bossy and arrogant; everybody now knows him. If you find him in a bad mood you would know for sure that your experience at the border will be a real nasty one,” said a Pioneer bus driver who admitted parting ways with a lot of money on several occasions to get Pincode clear his bus.
“We have dealt with him for a long time and we are now used to him. You need to have his bribe ready if you want him to let you go early,” said the driver.
Earlier this month, this reporter witnessed Pincode hard at work, ordering buses to stop and offload their luggage for be searched for the second time just moments after they had been searched and cleared by other Zimra agents.
Another bus driver with First Class Coaches said Pincode had lately become bolder in his misdemeanours after he was shifted from the main customs area where vehicles are searched to the exit gate where bribes are reportedly harder to get.
“He is outraged by his transfer to the less lucrative exit gate and is now more daring in his corrupt endeavours. You can’t understand the logic of being searched a few metres from another searching point. If Zimra doesn’t trust its own systems, how are we supposed to trust it?” said the driver who looked exhausted at being made to offload the bus for the second time just moments after being cleared at the customs area.
An Intercity bus had also been made to stop for hours after at the gate after some ‘irregularities’ had been found in the declaration form of one passenger after a re-search.
Last week, two immigration officers Precious Ndomupei Dumbu and Tinashe Gotosa were arrested after they were reportedly caught on camera taking bribes.
Government recently installed secret cameras to curb illegal activities at the border post but their effectiveness is minimal as those in charge are also alleged to be involved.news

Hungwe now runs two ministries

0
Kkkkkk hamunyare makaita seiko? What has really gotten into your minds fellow comrades? How can you allow such rot to continue happening right under your noses? Can’t you see Josaya Hungwe is literally running two ministerial posts? He is the minister of Psychomotor and now he seems to have taken over Shuavi Mahofa’s position as the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Masvingo.
E-eh why not? Hungwe is doing almost everything for Mahofa. Mapombi attended the Heroes Day celebrations at Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre, and guess what, all activities that were supposed to be done by Mahofa were being done by Hungwe from inspecting the guard of honour to laying the flowers at the graves. Virtually everything. Except for reading President Robert Mugabe’s prepared speech kkkkkkkkkkkkk makatogara zvenyu pasi gogo kkkkkk asi gogo Mahofa ka ko kundogara kumba nevazukuru zvodii? Chete ndimiwo madii zvenyu imi vemakore 75 kana vava kuma80, 90 ne100 vachiri pazvigaro. Tongai vanhu gogo!
But Mapombi want to give a standing ovation to gogo Mahofa, this time she was a bit fluent when she was reading the queen’s language. Sando dzenyu gogo it showed you rehearsed well ndokuverenga chirungu ka kuya kkkkkkk that was great improvement from the last time Mapombi heard you during the Independence Day celebrations at Mucheke Stadium in April this year.
Mapombi, however, was extremely worried because gogo Mahofa has deteriorated so bad that I nearly forgot her when she arrived at the Provincial Heroes Acre. Kuda inyaya yekuti I saw her from afar as you all know kuti isuwo vane mamvemve hatibvumirwe padhuze nevanhu vanofamba nemaBenz, vanogara pamasofa, vanopiwa mvura dzemumabottle nema snacks vanofamba vakachengetedzwa nevakomana vema suit. Ummmm gogo Mahofa vari kupera muviri veduwe. Aa-ah munotoseka? Zvimwe hazviseke imi. May be it’s because I was seeing her from a tree I was climbing but haaa Mapombi heard even those who got closer to her vachiti haaa hameno.
Anyway, since Hungwe has proved beyond doubt that he can run both the offices why not officially appoint him the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Masvingo? Chaasina kuita chete kuverenga speech yaPresident. Otherwise I don’t think there is anything more Mahofa is doing which Hungwe cannot do. He can sign too. Of course papers from Team Lacoste will be signed first ahead of G40. Kkkkkkkk Zanu PF yambotionesa nhaka.
From Mujuru era to the formation of G40, now Team Lacoste faction members are being roasted every day. Chris Mutsvangwa, Victor Matemadanda, Headman Moyo and Douglas Mahiya were expelled from Zanu PF. Kkkkkkkkk gona una gona wakewo shuwa. Mapombi never thought Mutsvangwa would be kicked out of Zanu PF. But let me say something; Mngagwagwa you lost my respect! E-eh Mapombi is a gentleman handivanzi; hauite hausapoteke. You are selfish Cde; people who have sacrificed so much for you to get that post are now being axed and you remain quiet. Do you stil remember Mutsvangwa saying Joice Mujuru haana kupfura helicopter during the war? He lied because he wanted to discredit Mujuru so that munopinda panyanga but now mava panyanga mava kukanganwa? Haaa musadaro vakomana. Anyway, support Mnangagwa at your own peril. Now Mapombi knew the truth murume uyu haasapoteke.
Gogo Mahofa, Hungwe are you getting me? Ndati Ngwena haisapoteke! Asi mati kugona kungoti uchingovukuraa, ugovukura tichingotonga, tigotonga uchingovukura kkkkkkkk Mphoko senani anotorambira zvake muhotera.  After all he was right paakati Makaranga will never rule this country. Ungatonga nyika with such speeches. . . ‘pamberi nemhanduuuuu’ kkkkkkkkkk. Maybe Nelson Chamisa will be the only Mukaranga anogona kuzotongawo hake nyika ino.
Anyway, Mapombi has poured her heart and Ngwena dai uri umwe waichinja maitor wotaidzawo kuti uri murume chaiye. Stand up and defend your fellow Cdes. Stop being selfish! Aaaah hanzi baba musaita sedhakisi!
Mapombi is always a gentleman; allow gogo Mahofa to rest and let Hungwe take over. Chokwadi hamunzwewo tsitsi muchiona gogo vachinetseka kufamba sezviya vachikwira paPodium? Does this mean there is no better candidate to replace her? Haa tinyareiwo please. Stop taking Masvingo for granted hakuna mafuza kuno. We want a minister who can run around the province not one who spend most of time in hospital. Nxaa zvobhowa mhani.
It’s almost lunch time let me go and have maputi angu for lunch. But gogo Mahofa musanyepera vanhu kuti no one will starve because there are families already starving. Chete manga muchiverenga henyu zvamakatumirwawo but deep down you know that people are starving in Zaka, Mwenezi and Chiredzi.
Even Mapombi passed out this other day after I failed to get some rotten bananas and maputi for lunch. Had it not been the civil servants who came to my rescue zvingadaro ndakafa ipapo manje vakazondipawo tuma Bond coins and I bought some rotten bananas. Ko iwo maBond Papers anouya rinhiko nhai veduwe? I mean aya hanzi maBond Notes zviya. Haaaa kugumirwa ndokuziva ini. Anyway, vanodawo maputi handei tindokanga. Mukadarika nekwaChirimudombo mundiudzirewo amai vangu kuti Mapombi ari kukanga waya. Mboko imboko!

Zim PF demotes Makova

0
Itai Muzondo

Masvingo – The Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) Masvingo executive has stripped Retired Colonel Claudius Makova of his chairmanship position and replaced him with Dr William Zivenge, a surprise move that is likely to jolt some party members.
The move came at a time when speculation is rife that there is intense and sometimes heated jostling for influential positions ahead of the party’s national congress.
Provincial party spokesperson, Colonel Kudzai Mbudzi confirmed the development and said Makova had hinted on quitting politics, leaving the party with no option but to look for committed person to fill the top post.
“Yes, that is one of our latest moves and there was no back-biting on Makova as unconstructive people may put it across. We have since replaced Makova with Zivenge. The move came after Makova himself hinted that he is no longer energetic and wished to quit active politics because of age,” said Mbudzi who avoided further questions.
TellZim News is however reliably informed that Makova was caught by surprise when a meeting that was meant to discuss recruitment of members and issuing of party cards turned into a war against him.
“We heard of the planned ouster as we arrived at the venue. We warned Makova and he thought he would handle the situation but because it was a well-planned move, he failed. His sympathizers tried to back the old man but they were outnumbered. We are of the belief that Dzikamai Mavhaire is the chief architect of this entire fracas,” said an insider.
“The major problem causing all these misunderstandings is the fact that the party is largely constituted by political prodigals; people who have occupied influential positions before and are eyeing the same positions by teaming up against each other. You will discover that by the time we reach 2018, most people would have quit being party members simply because what they hoped for would not have materialised,” the source said.
Lately, ritics have said the party is failing to live up to the euphoria that characterised its official launch when people expected a large-scale defection of disgruntled Zanu-PF members.news

Tsvangirai, Mujuru deal done?

0

Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – The main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader Morgan Tsvangirai last week called for a collective consensus across the political divide saying the country is in crisis and going solo will not aid plans to push President Robert Mugabe to step down and pave way for a transitional authority.
Addressing thousands of party supporters in Masvingo after staging their fourth provincial demonstration against the worsening economic challenges, Tsvangirai said the country needs a political solution which will pave way for a transition to an electoral system which will create a legitimate government.
“It’s now time we move from our small corners and fight together for a common cause. Pava kuda kuti tiite chirwira Ingwe apa (Let us unite in the fight against Zanu PF like the leopards) We are meeting at a time when we have the darkest period in our history. There is no person in their various lives who has no grievance. The unemployed are crying, the nation is crying for cash but unfortunately we are all meeting at a time when we are all poor people.
“We can no longer tolerate this life. Zimbabwe got its independence for the people to have a better life. The country is in a crisis and it’s a waste of time to fight lone battles, it’s time for a collective consensus across the political divide,” said Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai said war veterans, workers, employers, vendors and all the Zimbabweans need to work together to create a democratic country.
He slammed Zanu PF for abusing the war veterans when they are the ones who freed the country from the colonial bondage.
“How can you celebrate heroes day when you are actually busy abusing the heroes, it’s a shame. The end is near. Zanu PF is no longer holding, the centre is no longer holding and the end is nigh.
“War veterans, vendors, army, police and the rest of the country are saying Mugabe must go. We want a country where every person is proud to be a Zimbabwean. I want to implore all the members of the army, police and the business community to unite and create a better Zimbabwe where there is an equal opportunity for all.
“We want a peaceful transition. We do not want war. We do not want blood on the floor. We do not want to go around chasing each,” said Tsvangirai.
He said they will not accept disputed elections in the future because it is what has led to the crisis bedevilling the country.
“We want electoral reforms. We want the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to emulate what is happening in countries like South Africa so that winners are congratulated and losers will accept defeat.
“That kind of an electoral system is still a mirage for us. We still hope for a better electoral system. We cannot get into an election where there is no provision for a level playing field. The rigging of elections has brought us a lot of problems. No one will put money in this country.
“Even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) refused to give us money because of Mugabe,” Tsvangirai said.
The former Prime Minister send a strong message to Mugabe telling him to start thinking about his legacy and contemplate a dignified exit.
“We want to respect you (Mugabe) and that means you have to accept a way of a dignified exit. If you are the founder of Zimbabwe, we want to always make a reference saying you are the one who liberated us not the one who oppressed us”, said Tsvangirai.
He promised to pile more pressure on Mugabe until he steps down.
Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) members and other pressure groups joined in solidarity of the march which was also fronted by MDC-T second-in-command Thokozani Khupe and the newly appointed deputies; Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri among other party bigwigs.news

No land for Zanu PF youths – mayor Fidze

0
Upenyu Chaota

MASVINGO – Masvingo city mayor Hubert Fidze said council has no land to spare for the Zanu PF youths to develop residential stands urging them to follow the same process by any other resident who dreams of owning a house in the ancient town.
This was after the Minister of local Government Saviour Kasukuwere is moving around towns distributing land to Zanu PF youths to develop residential stands, a move which was criticised by residents who have been for years on the waiting list to get residential stands.
Fidze said they do not have anything to do with the Zanu PF campaigning strategy and insisted that they will use the waiting list book when they are distributing residential stands.
“Zanu PF youths were promised land for residential stands across the country but here in Masvingo we have no land such party projects. We believe that land should not be distributed on partisan grounds and that we should be guided by the waiting list when distributing residential stands. There are no sacred cows and we insist that everyone should go through the proper channels when acquiring land,” said Fidze.
“The waiting list is ballooning because we do not have any land at the moment. Maybe Zanu PF has other means to get that land but, within our jurisdiction, we have no land,” he added.
Fidze castigated partisan distribution of land saying residents should have equal access regardless of their political affiliations.
“Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) controls the majority of councils and imagine what would have happened if they were to influence distribution of council resources on partisan line. We should be rational in all our decisions so that no one feels isolated. We should be guided by principles,” said Fidze.
Masvingo Zanu PF youth boss Nobert Ndaarombe, however, said they have already identified the piece of land they want to develop into residential stands and they will be launching the project any time soon.
“We are going to launch the project soon; other provinces have already launched and their papers are being processed,” said Ndaarombe.news

Fantastic Chidyamakono

0

Sports Reporter
Chidyamakono High School is the first ever team in the history of COPA Coca-Cola tournament to win the trophy four times in a row after they dismissed Magwegwe by a goal to nil in the U17 Girls finals played at Pelandaba Stadium on Sunday.
Rujeko also put up a spirited performance in the U16 Boys’ category to win the coveted trophy after dismissing Chinhoyi by four goals to one in penalty shootout. The two teams had settled for a nil-all draw in regulation time.
Chidyamakono, however, stole the limelight after scooping the trophy for the fourth time in a row. Neria Mashede sealed the victory for the Chivi-based side after Magwegwe goalkeeper failed to clear a seemingly harmless shot in the dying minutes of second half.
For the grand prize, Chidyamakono received $3 200, kit, cooler box and two balls.
An elated Chidyamakono coach Yeukai Chiruvu hailed her girls for a job well done.
“This is a remarkable feat; I am really excited to win this for the fourth time in a row. I think experience counted most for us and the girls played according to instructions,” said Chiruvu.
“Our focus now is on the next tournament. We will start preparations this year and most of the players in the time will still be eligible to play in the tournament next year,” she added.
Six players from Chidyamakono were selected into the national dream team and these are Mashede, Define Ndambakuwa, Nyaradzo Chifamba, Ruramai Cheteni, Abigail Denge and Omopariola Havadi. For individual awards, Chifamba was voted Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, Define the Best Defender and Neria the top goal scorer, while Chiruvu won the Best Coach of the tournament award.
National Association for Secondary Heads (NASH) president Johnson Madhuku said he was impressed with the level of competition at this year’s edition of the tournament.
“You would agree with me that the winners use the right age group and the players were a marvel to watch. I was impressed with the level of competition and skills displayed by the players. On behalf of NASH I want to thank the sponsors for supporting grassroots football,” said Madhuku.
Chivi district NASH chairperson Austin Hakunavanhu could not hide his joy after Chidyamakono won the trophy for the fourth time in a row.
“Chidyamakono has made us proud as Chivi district; they have set new record by becoming the first ever team to win this trophy for four consecutive years. I’m very sure it will take decades to have another team that will break this record. I want to thank Chidyamakono management, technical team and players for a job well done,” said Hakunavanhu.
Meanwhile, Dewure who were the defending champions were eliminated in the semi-finals by three goals to one in penalty shootout by Chinhoyi after a nil-all draw in regulation time. Pamushana also failed to live to the expectation after they were booted out of the tournament in the group stages after they drew nil-all with Guinea Fowl and succumbed to a one-nil defeat to Rujeko in Group C. Dewure’s Munyaradzi Matore was however the top goal scorer with three goals and was also voted the Best Midfielder of the tournament. Matore was also selected into the national dream team together with Lee Runodamoto, Edwards Machinya and Malfbaling Munashi.

COPA Coca Cola a resounding success: Sam Muzvanya

0
Itai Muzondo

Masvingo – Sam Muzvanya, who is one of the Copa Coca-Cola tournament co-founders in Zimbabwe, has expressed satisfaction at the tournament’s achievements saying the initiative has so far been a resounding success.
Speaking to TellZim News in an exclusive interview, Muzvanya said the tournament has not only managed to achieve much of its goals but has also exceeded expectations.
“The tournament has reached great heights just as we had dreamed from the beginning. One development that makes us happy today is that the tournament has managed to penetrate rural areas. At the beginning, the tournament was dominated by urban schools but there is greater diversity now as witnessed during the just ended games in Gwanda.
“We are also satisfied that we have managed to come up with a workable programme. As the tournament grew, we faced challenges in coordinating events but now with the help of NASH, we have found a formula on how games should be coordinated. All these developments have also generally advanced the level of competition,” Muzvanya said.
Chivi district NASH Chairman, Austin Hakunavanhu was impressed by how the tournament has managed to break new grounds after Chidyamakono High School recently lifted the trophy for the fourth time in a row.
“I am happy with how the tournament has managed to expose new talent; the kind of talent which has broken records at national level. A good example is Chidyamakono High School which has scooped the trophy for the fourth consecutive time. The school has even made us proud as Chivi district. The Copa Coca-Cola tournament has managed to make history locally and regionally,” Hakunavanhu said.
“We have realised that the secret behind the historic exploits of Chidyamakono is nothing but effort, determination, commitment and hard work,” he added.
