MASVINGO – Lucky Hotera (42) last week appeared before magistrate Takawira Mugabe facing charges of unlawful entry and theft after he walked away with property worth US$3 450 from the late former Higher Education minister Stan Mudenge’s home in Glenlivet.
Hotera was slapped with a 12 month Jail term but two months were suspended on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years and will serve 10 months effectively.
The State, led by Edmond Mapope, charged that at an unknown date in March, Hotera together with other two unknown suspects, intentionally and without permission or authority entered Plot 8 Glen Livet Masvingo.
The trio stole household property including radio sets, Zanu PF regalia and kitchen utensils among others things but police acted on a tipoff and carried out investigations leading to Hotera’s arrest.
The suspect then led the officers to the crime scene where he explained to them how he, together with his accomplices who were still at large, broke into the house for the purpose of theft.
Property worth US$1000 was recovered while the rest was yet to be found by the time of going to print.local
