03 April 2017, NGUNDU – The Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ) Holdings Limited has donated an ambulance at Ngundu clinic on Monday in an effort to save lives at accidents happening along Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.
CBZ partnered with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) and donated the ambulance after realising that many people were dying in road accidents that happen between Rutenga and Masvingo due to lack of ambulances to transport the injured to hospitals.
CBZ Executive Director Never Nyemudzo praised TSCZ and called upon other private sector players to complement government efforts towards accident prevention and post accident assistance saying accidents are unplanned incidents with far reaching consequences.
“This initiative was made possible by the TSCZ which identified and selected the area of greatest need of an ambulance and facilitated engagements with government ministries and departments as they also helped to get the ambulance registered under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.
“TSCZ also sponsored the training of the Ambulance team comprising of ten nurses, three drivers and two doctors. We believe that the ambulance will go a long way in assisting victims of accidents and saving lives,” said Nyemudzo.
The Land Cruiser, which was bought at an estimated cost of USD$70 000 was officially handed over to the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa who expressed gratitude and encouraged all road users to preserve life.
“We are very grateful to CBZ for what you have done to our ministry and we hope you are going to do this to all provinces. Donations now have to come from us not outside. I also warn the responsible personnel not to abuse the ambulance,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.
Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe Managing Director, Obia Chinyere said they have targeted Ngundu because it has the highest rate of accidents and they saw a need as the deaths involve ages between 25 and 45 which are breadwinners and country builders.health
