07 March 2017, CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) has purchased forty motorbikes for its councillors as part of measures to ease travel and improve service delivery in the vast district.
Chiredzi RDC is one of the biggest districts in the country but is grappling with poor infrastructure that makes some remote parts of the district hardly reachable.
Areas like Chikombedzi and Malipati have some of the worst roads imaginable, and councillors from these areas sometimes turn up for meetings very late due to transport problems.
Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Isaac Matsilele said the move to give purchase the bikes came after the realisation that councillors must be able to stay in touch with communities all the time.
“All our councillors successfully passed their provisional licenses and we have given them their motorbikes,” said Matsilele.business, pictures
