Council offers Una Una rescue package

Masvingo City Council has resolved to pay Masvingo United Football Club’s affiliation fee for the upcoming Division One soccer season.
Una Una as the team is affectionally known in football circles have been struggling to make ends meet since the community assumed its ownership and now rely on well-wishers to foot financial costs.
Speaking at a press conference after the full council meeting, Masvingo Mayor Collen Maboke said the local authority had resolved to rescue the team.
“Council also resolved to pay Masvingo United Football Club’s 2021 Eastern Region Soccer League affiliation fee equivalent to US$ 1 300.00,” said Maboke.
Una Una spokesperson Godfrey Kurauone said they had asked for funds from a number of organistions and were glad to hear that council had agreed to pay though they were yet to communicate to them regarding the matter
“We had asked for help from a number of organisations and institutions and Masvingo City is one of them, so we anticipate a positive response. So we waiting for their communication,” said Kurauone.
Recently, Una Una received another boost in their preparation for the coming league season as they received 18 tracksuits, soccer jerseys, and warm up and training bibs early last month at Mucheke stadium.
Topgear Mashoko and Kurauone gave the team a maroon away kit with socks, green and orange bibs and promised to provide more match and training gear.
The Eastern Region Division One League is set to start on December 11 2021, after a long break that was caused by Covid-19.
In the Eastern Region soccer League week 1, Masvingo United will lock horns with FC Wangu Mazodze at Mucheke stadium, before they again host Greenfuel FC in week two.
