Gweru robbery, attempted rape gang nailed

GWERU – Simon Kurambwa Chigwerembe (29), Justice Ncube (29),Tafadzwa Rafamoyo  (23) and James Masocha (21), appeared before Magistrate Phathekile Msipa facing eight counts of armed robbery.
They all pleaded guilty all the charges that were levelled against them.
According to State papers, on July 05, 2017, at around 19: 00 hrs, Chigwerembe of Magama village, Chief Chiundura and Ncube, of House Number 25 Vinyu Street Rimuka, Kadoma, robbed Violet Muvungani (39), of 22 Smart Road Athlone, Gweru.
They had approached Muvungani as she walked along the road and produced a knife before grabbing her by the neck. Ncube forcibly took the complainant’s jacket, Nokia X2 phone and a Nokia 1200 and they escaped.
On second count, Chigwerembe and Ncube teamed up with Rafamoyo of Plot 80 Aijapu Chegutu and robbed Abigail Mudadi (21), of 4205 Mkoba 10, who was in the company of her friend walking along a foot path between Mkoba 7 High School and Mkoba 3 Bus Stop.
The trio grabbed the two women while pointing knives at them. They robbed them of US$2 and a Sony Xperia cellphone. Ncube attempted to rape the complainant but she escaped.
On the last count, the three accused teamed up with Masocha, address not provide, and robbed one Loreen Chauke (20), of 43351 Mkoba 10 at around 19:00 hrs as she walked from Mkoba Business Centre in the company of her friend Loveness Kamano.
Chigwerembe tripped the complainant and took her Vodafone cellphone. Ncube attempted to rape Kamano but she fought her way out and ended up a police station.
Police later arrested Chigwerembe on August 07, 2017, and he then implicated his accomplices, leading to the recovery of all the stolen items.
The accused persons were remanded to 08 May for sentencing.
