Zaka – A Zaka man who was in court for unlawful entry and malicious damage to property last week sent the whole court into giggles after he told the magistrate that he was followed by bad luck as he was being accused for crimes he did not commit.
“Ndingori nemunyamawo wekungopomerwa dzandisina kuita, (It’s because of my bad luck that I am accused of what I did not do,” said Edison Jamukoko.
Jamukoko (27) was found guilty on both counts though he pleaded not guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison on the first count.
Four were suspended on condition that he do not commit the similar offence within five years, the remainder was suspended on condition that he does 280 hours of community service at Chiromo primary school.
On the second account, he was sentenced to 18 months with four being suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within five years.
The remainder was suspended on condition that he does 250 hours of community service at Chiromo secondary school and to pay $120 for the damaged property
The state represented by Douglas Mapholisa told the court that Jamukoko unlawfully entered a house belonging to Thomas Janga and walked away with an inverter valued at US$15 which he sold.
The inverter was recovered and Janga positively identified the inverter but Jamukoko said it is not the one he sold but the evidence produced by the State was overwhelming.
On passing judgement the magistrate considered that he was a first offender and that the inverter was recovered.news
