MASVINGO – The German city of Kernen is happy with the progress in developmental projects they are sponsoring in Masvingo through the twinning association.
Projects facilitated by the German city since the twinning include construction of Runyararo Clinic, infrastructure development at Mucheke Old People’s Home and Alpha Cottages, loan facilities through Zambuko Trust and the donation of an ambulance to the ancient city.
Speaking at a reception held for the visiting delegation last week at the Civic Centre; Christian Fleischer, on behalf of the team comprising Astrid Fleischer; Klaus Kopp and Karin Kopp, said they were happy with the progress of the projects they are facilitating.
“This 25-year old relationship has been long and fruitful. This is no longer just a partnership but mature friendship. We really appreciate how we have grown to learn from each other. The project tours we had earlier on were very interesting and all is running well,” Fleischer said.
“Discussions on new ideas were also fruitful. New ideas to create homes and make the city green among others. They are actually ideas that lead to a better future and we are glad to be a partner. With the progress we have witnessed on the ground, this may emerge the best relationship between cities across the globe. Masvingo has actually become our second home,” he added.
Karin Kopp added, “Every time we visit, we gather videos which we give to our son back home to edit and produce a video story of all we would have seen. That is a video that will show areas that need improvement. The video is circulated in the city motivating German locals to come in with donations we hand over for the betterment of our twin city, Masvingo.”
Masvingo-Kernen Association incoming chairperson Pascal Mudzikisi said the association is paying school fees for 100 pupils at Bondolfi.
“The Kernen city has done a lot for Masvingo. Besides all other programmes you have heard of, the association also pays school fees for 100 pupils at Bondolfi Primary School. This should also stand as a challenge to the local business community to chip in and assist the less privileged. To our brothers and sisters in Kernen, please don’t tire, we really appreciate your assistance,” said Mudzikisi.news
