MBERENGWA – A 36-year-old Mberengwa man who raped his four-year-old daughter in front of his two elder sons was last week sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The accused (named withheld to protect the minor), from Hlupheko village under Chief Mataruse, appeared before regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire on the charge of raping his own daughter.
The court heard that the matter came into the open when the child yelled while urinating and she told her mother what had happened.
The father had ordered his two other children aged 12 and 8 to stand still and watch while he raped their sister.
After raping the child, he threatened to stab the other children with a machete if they dare report the matter to their mother or anyone else.
The mother had gone to fetch water from a nearby borehole about a kilometre away, and on her return, she did not notice anything amiss.
The mother confirmed the matter from the duo and reported the matter to the police on the following day leading to the arrest of her husband.local
