MUTARE – Mutare Poly lecturer, Teston Manana appeared in court last week facing indecent assault charges after he allegedly caressed a male student at the campus last week.
Manana, who was represented by Nicholas Nhambura, denied the charges and was granted US$100 bail when he appeared before Mutare Provincial Magistrate Tendai Mabwe.
The court heard that on April 26 this year, the 27-year-old complainant arrived at the college intending to repair furniture at the college during the holiday.
He was referred to Manana who was supposed to arrange accommodation and food for the complainant. Manana took the complainant to his house at the staff quarters where he offered him accommodation.
Manana and the complainant shared the same bed and blankets. Manana caressed the complainant’s cheeks, chest and private parts without his consent. After realising that the accused was unrelenting, the complainant pretended to be going to the toilet. He sneaked and alerted security guards on duty.
The matter will go for trial at the end of this month and Manana was ordered to keep residing at his given address and not to interfere with state witnesses.local
