MWENEZI – Incumbent Zanu PF Ward 2 councillor, Munyaradzi Sigogo whom TellZim News reported early last year to be under fire from party members over his then alleged association with Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, is said to be pleading with MDC Alliance to allow him to contest the ward again under Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) ticket.
Contacted for a comment, Sigogo rubbished the reports about his alleged association with opposition politics.
“I am not begging for the MDC Alliance’s support but the truth of the matter is that what you are hearing are just rumours. So far I am yet to decide on anything. In the event that I have made a choice, I will advise you,” said Sigogo.
Sources, however, said Sigogo had already forwarded his Curriculum Virtue (CV) to the MDC Alliance provincial team for consideration so that he contests the ward under the ZimPF ticket with the backing of the alliance.
Zanu PF district coordinator who is also the provincial secretary for transport and welfare, Rennias Muchoko also confirmed that they had not received Sigogo’s CV because he was no longer a member of the party.
He said the ostracised councillor ceased to be a member of the ruling party long back because he shifted his political allegiance from Zanu PF to ZimPF.
ZimPF is a led by Agrippa Mutambara and is part of the seven-member MDC Alliance which is expected lock horns with Zanu PF as a united front come the general election later this year.
Though Zanu PF has several aspiring candidates the ward, the MDC-T is said to have reserved the council seat for its district youth secretary, Lovemore Mapuranga whom it wants to contest under the MDC Alliance banner.
