03 April 2017, MWENEZI – The paediatric ward at Neshuro District Hospital has finally been reopened after weeks of forced closure due to severe water crisis.
Provincial Medical Director (PMD) Dr Amadeus Shamu ordered the closure of the ward in February and child patients were admitted into the female ward.
Although Dr Shamu could not immediately comment on the latest developments saying he needed time for some clarifications from District Medical Officer (DMO); Dr Itai Matibiri, TellZim News understands that children have now returned to their section.
Close sources, however, said the water situation had not yet fully normalised but authorities were forced to move children back to their section for fear of disease outbreaks in the female ward which had become heavily congested.
The water crisis at the hospital had also forced authorities to cut-back on new admissions and had led to alleged cases of premature discharge of patients considered to be in non-critical conditions.local
