MASVINGO – Zimbabwe’s leading retailer OK Zimbabwe Masvingo branch has donated U$700 worth of groceries towards the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
The fund is activated towards the festive season every year to raise money and goodies for distribution to the less privileged members of society.
OK Masvingo branch manager Shepherd Mahiya said his organisation understands the importance of ploughing back to the community.
“We know there is need to lend a hand to the underprivileged and as OK Zimbabwe, we help with what we can. We always contribute to the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund and this year, we have donated $700 worth of groceries,” said Mahiya.
City of Masvingo mayor, Hubert Fidze said the donation will go a long way in ensuring that the less fortunate have something to smile about this festive season.
“OK Zimbabwe Masvingo has always been very supportive of this initiative. This year’s cheer fund has been on the low because of economic hardships and the contributions we got are fewer than we got last year. We are going to deliver what we got and hopefully, everybody will get something,” said Fidze.
Distribution of the proceeds will take part on Thursday, December 21 at Civic Centre with institutions like Mucheke Old People’s Home and Alpha Cottages children’s shelter expected to be among the recipients.local
