GWERU – The government has put in place stringent surveillance mechanisms to make sure hospitals comply with the directive to offer free medical services to senior citizens, pregnant women and minors under five years of age.
This was said by the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Owen Ncube, as he welcomed First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa at Gweru Provincial Hospital a fortnight ago.
“It is disappointing to report that some of health institutions in the province were not complying with the government’s free user fee for children aged five and below, senior citizens and pregnant women.
“In light of this, we have put in place a monitoring and evaluation system through the Joint Operations Command (JOC) to closely monitor this non-adherence to policy,” Ncube said.
Ncube also urged the government to lift a ban on the recruitment of health officers saying some institutions were incapacitated.
He pointed out that new medical equipment procured by the new government for public health institutions should see hospitals offering better services.local

CHIREDZI – Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers Union (ZSMIWU) is celebrating the departure of its president, Freedom Madungwe, after the High Court ruled that he was procedurally removed from his position.
There had been bad blood between Madungwe and much of the union membership which accused him of selling out their interests to the employer, Tongaat Hulett.
Madungwe was then dismissed from ZSMIWU in October 2016 by the executive committee but he filed a labour court application challenging the decision, arguing that those who had fired him were no longer members of the union as they had lost their jobs with Tongaat Hulett.
ZSMIWU, however, filed its own application with the High Court to bar him from accessing the organisation’s bank accounts. The court advised the union to form an interim executive pending a final ruling on the matter.
On January 26 this year, the High Court delivered its ruling on the matter, endorsing the expulsion of Madungwe from the union.
The judgement on Case Number HC10757/16 which cites Madungwe was the 1st respondent, was delivered by Justice Tawanda Chitapi.
“It is hereby declared that first respondent was duly expelled as a member of the Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers Union (ZSMIWU) on the 8th of October 2016,” reads part of the judgement.
The court also ordered Madungwe to pay the costs of the application on high scale which is estimated to about over US$20 000.
“First respondent be and is hereby ordered to pay the costs of this application on the high scale as between client and attorney.
“It is hereby declared that the leadership of the Union presently consists of five National Executive Committee members namely Lucia Chirhele, Brawl Chikandiwa, Nokuthula Dube, Tavonga Vandirayi and Godfrey Katerere,” it reads.
The interim committee which had been running ZSMIWU was subsequently dissolved on February 15 to pave way for the set National Executive Committee.local

He further said his office had submitted recommendations to the Minister of Industry and Commerce to seek the revival of the company.
“My office’s submission to the minister of industry and commerce recommending the revival of this company should very soon bring investors once they have been identified.
“It is also government’s expectation that when you resume operations, you employ more than you retrenched,” Ncube said.

A filthy market in the light industrial areas

CHIREDZI – The Environmental Management Agency (Ema) has slapped Chiredzi Town Council with a US$10 000 ticket over its failure to manage large mounds of garbage that are now common at all market places especially in the light industrial area popularly known as ‘Kumagarage’.
Various stakeholders visited the vegetable market this week to assess the garbage situation which is getting no better despite many complaints being made.
Council housing department officials failed to show up at the meeting, with town secretary Charles Muchatukwa saying he did not turn up because he expected the issue to be handled by the District Administrator (DA) Lovemore Chisema.
“It was being handled by the District Administrator so I thought everything was under control,” said Muchatukwa.
Ema district officer, Peter Mugodhi slammed council for making no effort to improve environmental hygiene in the area.
“The place needs bins and is very smelly. Toilets are very close to the market and with no toilet dip, there is a health hazard for many people,” said Mugodhi
Councillor Obert Ngwenya of Ward 2 also attacked council for failing to improve service delivery.
“There is so much incompetence in council so I urge residents to stand up and demand accountability,” said Ngwenya.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) chairperson Jonathan Mupamombe threatened to organise peaceful demonstrations against deteriorating service delivery.
“I am applying for a right for residents to hold peaceful demonstrations against council. It is yet again the ratepayer who will be made to settle that ticket and we are not at all pleased,” said Mupamombe.local

Zero One One will be playing in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League this 2018 season.
In an interview with TellZim News, Zero One One spokesperson Lovemore Mujere said the sponsor had decided to fund a fully-fledged Chatsworth-based football outfit as a way of ploughing back into the community.
The club conducted trials in Chatsworth and has already played a friendly match with Masvingo Pirates FC.
“Washaya decided to sponsor a fully-fledged football outfit as a way of ploughing back to the community.
“We have engaged Morris Mukwiti to assist us with the technical aspects of the game. This is one of the many ways that the sponsor has been exploring in trying to give back to the community where his roots lie,” said Mujere.
Speaking to TellZim News, Mukwiti said the club has conducted trials with some local players and those from outside Chatsworth.
“We are still conducting trials for those coming outside the Chatsworth community. We need players who have played in division one and the Premier Soccer League because our main objective is to be promoted into topflight football in two years to come. ZVISHAVANE – One of the fastest growing colleges in Zvishavane, Budiriro B College, located in the high density suburb of Maglas, is proud of its record as a school where pupils are shaped to be life’s success stories.
The school recorded an impressive 93.64 percent pass rate in the 2017 ‘A’ level results, with top performers being Bright Runhare and Thomas Garakasha both of whom were studying commercial subjects.
Budiriro B College principal, Vandirai Vandirai said the school was consistently working to improve its standing in a community where it takes a lot of effort to earn the confidence of parents.
“Our enrolment is rising and we are impressed by the strides we have made in the relatively short period that we have been in existence. We want to match that with the hard work that is required to keep our brand in the public limelight while giving parents every reason to send their children to Budiriro B College,” said Vandirai.
The school has become renowned for helping repeaters who would have failed to score good marks elsewhere.
“We do not discriminate anybody. We accept any pupil who wants a fair opportunity to bring out his/her full academic potential. That approach makes us different from other schools that sets the bar of enrolment too high such that it becomes a form of discrimination against those that are less capable.
“We know that children are not uniformly gifted in terms of their ability to grasp concepts and pass examinations. That is why we have teachers who are prepared to handle pupils with the attention they deserve as individual children,” said Vandira
He said the school was developing its facilities so that no pupil is turned away for such reasons as limited capacity. He said Horticulture, Bookkeeping and Computers will soon be introduced.education

MWENEZI – The head boy of Guiding Star Secondary School was last week convicted by the Mwenezi Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to a wholly suspended three months jail term for assaulting a pupil who had made fun of him.
Tendai Mboweni of Mboweni village under Chief Negari, pleaded guilty to charges of assault when he appeared before magistrate Honest Musiiwa.
The magistrate warned Mboweni that the court was only lenient with him as he was still at school and the victim did not sustain serious injuries.
It was the State’s case that on January 31 at around 08:00 hrs, Mboweni summoned Maslow Dziva to his office and asked him why he had mocked him the previous day at assembly, accusing him of stealing some dolls.
He then struck Dziva using open hands several times on his face and a police report was made leading to Mboweni’s arrest.
