G40 minister humiliated again

Dr Win Mlambo

…supporters bashed, attempts to mobilise against Porusingazi stalls

Beatific Gumbwanda

25 March 2017, CHIPINGE – Attempts by the Deputy Minister of Information Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, Dr Win Mlambo for a comeback following his flight from a rally which was disrupted by angry Zanu PF youths from a rival faction a fortnight ago, hit a snag last week after police denied him permission to hold a meeting in Chipinge South.
The Chipinge East legislator, who is allegedly aligned to the Generation 40 (G40) faction which is against Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa replacing President Robert Mugabe in the hot succession battle, was barred by armed riot police from holding a meeting in Chipinge South over the weekend.
Dr Mlambo confirmed the development and hastened to accuse Enock Porusingazi, the Chipinge East legislator of hiring youths to brutalise his supporters.
“The police denied us clearance to hold the meeting. We had a truck full of people who wanted to defect to Zanu PF but we failed to hold our meeting because the police refused to clear us. There are party bigwigs who were afraid that they would be exposed by the people who wanted to defect to us so they connived to disturb the planned gathering. The (police) support unit came to restore order. Those big wigs lied to the police so that we are denied a clearance,” said Dr Mlambo.
The youths who had been brought by Dr Mlambo were offloaded at Checheche for the meeting but were met with violence by supporters of Porusingazi, who is suspected to be in the Team Lacoste faction.
Porusingazi, however, attacked Mlambo for lacking respect and causing chaos in the constituency.
“It is true there are youth fighting for me in my absence because they are tired of Mlambo who is abandoning his constituency to cause chaos in a constituency that’s not his. He was recently ordered to abort a meeting at Checheche by riot police because the meeting was never cleared but now he is at it again,” said Porusingazi
Dr Mlambo was a fortnight ago forced to flee from a meeting at Checheche after rowdy youth advanced to attack him for allegedly de-campaigning Porusingazi and harbouring sinister intentions.

He allegedly bussed in loyal supporters from his constituency last week in order to prevent a repeat of what had happened to him but the supporters were reportedly beaten and chased from the venue once again.politics

25 March 2017, MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Energy Workers Union (Zewu) Masvingo last week embarked on a clean-up campaign at old Croco Motors bus terminus as part of belated commemorations of the International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, is a global event celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a call to action for the acceleration of efforts to achieve gender balance.
Speaking at the clean-up campaign, Piwai Marume, who is an executive member of Zewu in the province, praised efforts being made by the union to recognise women’s achievements.
“We decided to hold this clean-up campaign as a way of celebrating International Women’s Day and recognising women’s achievements. Women have achieved so much in the world despite being looked down upon by many. As Zewu, we are proud to partner the world in commemorating this day,” said Marume.
Formed in 1987, Zewu accommodates energy sector employees with most of the members drawn from the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distibution Company (ZETDC), Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), Rural Electrification Agency (Rea) Zesa Enterprises, Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa), PowerTel, Petrotrade, National Oil Company of Zimbabwe (NocZim) and PetroZimline.
The clean-up campaign was also supported by personnel from the Environmental Management Authority (Ema).local

Women Breaking Barriers…Meet Talent Makaka, a refrigeration and aircon technician

by Charles Maregere

25 MArch 2017, A third year student at Bulawayo Poly Technical College, 23-year-old Makaka is on industrial attachment at Phill Air in Masvingo.
She says an air conditioner is a device which removes heat from the air inside a building or vehicle thereby lowering the air temperature. The cooling is typically achieved through a refrigeration cycle, but sometimes evaporation or free cooling is used.
Refrigeration is a process of moving heat from one location to another in controlled conditions. The work of heat transport is traditionally driven by mechanical work, but can also be driven by heat, magnetism, electricity, laser, or other means.
Refrigeration has had a large impact on industry, lifestyle and agriculture but with very few women visible in her trade, Makaka urges young ladies to take up refrigeration and air conditioning courses as they offer hands on skills that are applicable in today’s world.
Modern vehicles that carry perishables are refrigerated and, at the same time, they are fitted with air conditioning equipment.
With the changing weather patterns, there is more demand for air conditioning equipment in both new and old buildings, thereby creating more opportunities for the technician in manufacturing, sales and after sales.
Makaka says technical jobs are usually productive jobs and more women therefore should go for technical jobs so that they are able to play a key role in the development of both themselves and their country.business

Women Breaking Barriers…Meet Revai Pedzerai, Zvishavane fire fighter

by Charles Maregere

25 March 2017, Pedzerai is trained and ready to save lives as she responds to various emergencies that occur around Zvishavane.
The only female in Zvishavane’s Fire, Health and Medical Department, Pedzerai has a duty to protect the community from fire disasters and to promote public safety.
She participates in fire prevention and inspection activities, equipment and quarter’s maintenance and training, dealing with all phases of fire suppression, prevention, inspection, rescue and emergency operations.
Pedzerai is dedicated to her duty and she encourages other ladies to try fire and rescue services as it is a profession not popular with many females out there.
“We evaluate each emergency situation upon arrival including properties of the fire, probability of the fire spreading, needs of victims, medical conditions, effects of weather conditions and other things in order to effectively deal with the emergency.
“We are trained to make forced entries into structures by cutting locks, breaking doors, windows or roofs as needed to gain access or to ventilate structures. This may involve using hand tools such as axes, sledge hammers, battering rams and power tools,” says Pedzerai.
She says they are trained to use systematic search procedures to try to find trapped victims without getting lost or trapped themselves.
Working under the supervision of Mr. Muchera, who is the Chief Fire Officer for Zvishavane town council, Pedzerai is confident that in future, she will be a force to reckon with in fire and rescue services.
Her request to motorists is: “The next time you hear an emergency vehicle siren, please accord that vehicle due respect and give it the way.”business

Govt to use force against hooligans

Jacob Mudenda

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

25 March 2017, GWERU – Speaker of Parliament; Jacob Mudenda last week said government will not hesitate to apply brute force in order to stop hooliganism at public hearings.
Addressing journalists, non-governmental organisations and the business community in Gweru recently, Mudenda said disturbances at public hearing jeopardise the practice of constitutionalism in the country.
“Watch out for hooligans at public hearings. To do so (hooliganism) is unconstitutional. Such platforms should be areas of freedom of expression and conscience. That is why we do not send in police or army anywhere near public hearing venues but if this continues, we will not hesitate to use force on the perpetrators,” Mudenda said.
He also urged civic organisations to participate in all public hearings, with NGOs and civic organisations that were present indicating that political parties were bringing their supporters to hearings so that they could vocally push their agendas.
This, it was heard, often resulted in skirmishes among political parties.
“We strongly feel that public hearings have become more of a political arena than civic engagement platforms as political parties always come with party positions with contradictions often ending up in nasty arguments and fights,” one participant complained.
On the same note, Mudenda advised that under Section 149 of the constitution, locals have the right to petition parliament on any matter they are not happy with.
He also said Section 167 of the constitution allows people to take parliament to the Constitutional Court if there was not enough public consultation on bills.local, topnews

Man bashes father-in-law over adulterous daughter

25 March 2017, MWENEZI – A 26-year-old man chased and assaulted his father in-law with an axe handle for trying to solve a dispute between him and his ‘cheating’ wife, the Mwenezi Magistrates Court recently heard.
Phineas Chimbudzi of Mapuranga Village One under Chief Chitanga was convicted on his own guilty plea of guilty by Magistrate Honest Musiwa and was fined US$80 or 30 days behind bars.
Prosecutor Willard Chasi told the court that on February 10, Chimbudzi’s father in-law Solomon Kunguru of Kure village under Chief Mawarire, visited the couple’s homestead in a bid to solve a misunderstanding between his son-in-law and his wife (Chimbudzi’s daughter).
Chimbudzi, however, accused Kanguru of intruding into personal family issues before picking an axe handle which he used to assault Kunguru all over the body.
The victim sustained swollen arms and some bruises.
Chimbudzi pleaded with the court that since he is the one who wronged his father in-law, he should be given an opportunity to apologise to him.
“The misunderstanding was over a suspicious text message which I found on my wife’s cell phone which showed she was having adulterous relationships. So Kunguru, who was armed with a machete, intruded into my bedroom and stuck me on my arm.
“I chased and assaulted him with an axe handle in retaliation. I told him point blank that he was defending his daughter’s infidelity,” Chimbudzi later told TellZim News after the guilty verdict.
Chimbudzi said Kunguru later returned after the altercation, packed his daughter’s belongings and disappeared with his daughter.local

Politburo fuels Zanu PF Masvingo fire

…G40, Lacoste in separate ‘PCC’ meetings
…Lacoste threatens to sue G40
…G40 begs Mugabe to fire Hungwe, Mahofa

Upenyu Chaota

25 March 2017, MASVINGO – The Zanu PF politburo’s order for a rerun of the Masvingo provincial chairperson elections has inflamed tensions between Team Lacoste and G40, with the belligerent factions becoming increasingly vocal in their desperate attempts to bury each other.
The elections were held last month with suspected Team Lacoste functionary Ezra Chadzamira taking a wide lead against his alleged G40 nemesis Rtd Colonel Mutero Masanganise.
The elections were however aborted midway and results suspended because of alleged irregularities and the failure to vote by many districts due to floods.
This has, however, infuriated Team Lacoste apparatchiks who feel they were denied a clear victory and are being undermined by a treacherous G40 faction.
Both factions called for separate meetings last Saturday and savaged each other while trying to give their respective gatherings an aura of respectability and legitimacy.
Team Lacoste converged at Masvingo Polytechnic and called their gathering a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting which was to be addressed by hitherto acting chairperson Jorum Gumbo while G40 congregated at Flamboyant Hotel.
Gumbo did not turn up for the Lacoste gathering which was then chaired by provincial secretary for administration Ailes Baloyi flanked by party chief whip Lovemore Matuke, Mwenezi East by election candidate Joosbi Omar, deputy secretary for legal affairs in the politburo; Paul Mangwana, Provincial Affairs minister Shuvai Mahofa and her Psychomotor counterpart Josaya Hungwe.
Although the main agenda at the Lacoste meeting was the Mwenezi East by-election, tempers flared after a G40 petition calling for the expulsion of Mahofa and Hungwe was produced.
Signatories to the petition reportedly include Masvingo Urban legislator Daniel Shumba and provincial political commissar Jeppy Jaboon.
Mangwana threatened to drag all signatories to the petition to the High Court for defamation.
“They have to prepare themselves because we will not let this go unchallenged. I will personally see to it that they will each have their day in court. Ngavatsvage lawyer rinogona kundidarika,” fumed Mangwana.
Mahofa also lashed out at G40 saying the faction was out to cause unnecessary commotion and confusion in the province.
“Musatamba nemusangano weZanu PF. Kana wada kubuda buda zvakanaka and we will not follow you. Do not worry us with petty issues. This province is different from other provinces and we want what Masvingo wants. We do not want gossipers in this province; there simply is no room for them,” said Mahofa.
Across the road, the rival meeting was being chaired by provincial vice chairperson and suspected G40 minion Amasa Nhenjana flanked by Jaboon, provincial youth league boss Nobert Ndaarombe, women’s league leader Veronica Makonese, central committee member Jefreys Murire and Rtd Col Masanganise.
Faction members said they had embarked on a massive structures audit at grass roots level to get rid of ‘fake structures engineered to rig the elections in favour of Chadzamira.’
They took turns to savage Mahofa and Hungwe, appealing to President Robert Mugabe to fire them from the party.
“Mahofa and Hungwe do not like the President. They are leading a faction determined to usurp power from the President and they should be stopped. They rigged the elections and they think we are going for a rerun without auditing the structures. We are not doing that.
“As for Mangwana who thinks he can sue us, he should stay away from whiskey and other intoxicating substances. It is within our rights to petition. He is not a good lawyer after all,” thundered Jaboon.
Mahofa and Hungwe were also accused of using presidential inputs to campaign for Chadzamira, with Makonese asking for a chance to deal with Mahofa.
“Ini ndinofumura. Nditenderei tigadzirise munhu uyu anetsa. Tinoda kumugadzirisa isu seWomen’s League,” said Makonese.
Masanganise also weighed in saying he had not contested against Chadzamira in February but had instead contested against Hungwe whom he accused of using Chadzamira to front his own selfish interests.
“Let me make it clear that I was not contesting against Chadzamira but Hungwe. He is the one who wants to control the province,” said Masanganise.
Ndaarombe also declared that it was now a bare-knuckle fight against Team Lacoste.politics, topnews

Bhasikiti formally withdraws from Mwenezi race

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti

TellZim Reporter

Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) candidate in the Mwenezi East parliamentary by-election, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti has officially pulled out from the race citing dissatisfaction with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)’s failure to resolve his complaints on alleged intimidation of his supporters and vote-buying by the ruling Zanu PF party.
In a letter to ZEC chairperson dated 23 March, 2017, Bhasikiti lashes out against the electoral body for what he calls its failure to properly manage the playing field.
“We would like to formally notify you of our withdrawal from the Mwenezi East by-Elections. This has been necessitated by your failure to regulate the elections in terms of the constitution and law of Zimbabwe thus rendering the elections a nullity before they even occur,” reads part of the letter.
The letter goes on to accuse ZEC of ignoring protestations that Zanu PF and its candidate Joosbi Omar were “parcelling free food and goodies as a vote buying gimmick contrary to the laws of the country which clearly outlaw vote buying.”
“Our supporters are being intimidated and receiving death threats from Zanu (PF) supporters but no action has been taken by your office of the ZRP (sic) despite the fact that several reports have been made to both offices.”
The letter also slams ZEC for failing to reign in Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa for allegedly threatening chiefs “against voting for any other party but Zanu PF.”
Meanwhile, the Mwenezi East by-election voters’ role inspection has started and will end on March 27.politics,topnews

Mining explosives plant re-opens in Kwekwe

Itai Muzondo in Gweru

24 March 2017, GWERU – Zimbabwe’s sole mining explosives manufacturing plant has been re-opened in Kwekwe and is now fully operational, TellZim News has learnt.
Formerly known as Dyno Nobel Zimbabwe, the explosive plant is now run by GML Explosives. In an interview with TellZim News, GML Explosives general manager; Jairos Mushirivindi said the plant has been battling to get back on track since 2007.
“GML Explosives took over operations in 2007 but we have been struggling to get onto our feet. We have been operating on a small scale but we have since opened the Shamwari plant which has the capacity to supply large quantities and I’m glad that some big mining companies are already buying explosives from us,” said Mushirivindi.
“Many people had lost jobs when the plant closed down but as of now, I assure you that the plant has 100 percent regained its employing power. Through ZimStats, we also realised that the nation was losing up to US$700 000 per month through the importation of explosives. Now that we supply the explosives, the costs have been reduced to plus or minus US$200 000,” he said.
Mushirivindi said they have credit facilities for companies and that they deliver the products within 24 hours within the borders of Zimbabwe.business
