Gokwe– Police in Midlands have appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the country’s major roads following an increase in the number of road carnages in recent weeks.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said members of the public and motorists should always adhere to road traffic regulations.
“We are appealing to members of the public to exercise maximum caution and adhere to road traffic regulations when driving.
“Drivers are reminded that overtaking vehicles in front generally is prohibited unless they are absolutely sure that they are safe to do so,” he added.
On January 10, 2022, five people were injured while one died on the spot when a Toyota Hiace they were travelling in was hit by a CAG bus along Gokwe- Siabuwa road.
The accident occurred around 0700 hours.
The driver of the Toyota Hiace Isaac Munyamana (43) was driving along Gokwe-Siabuwa road with five passengers on board whilst Rufaro Charangwa (42) years was driving a CAG bus with 63 passengers on board.
Both vehicles were heading towards Gokwe centre.
Circumstances given reveal that the Toyota Hiace tried to turn right at a junction and was hit by the bus from behind and dragged off the road. One of the female passengers who was in the Toyota Hiace Dambudzo Zengeya died on the spot
Police attended the scene and the body of the deceased as well as those injured were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital.
In another incident, five people escaped with injuries after a Toyota D4D vehicle they were travelling in overturned after hitting the trailer of a freight liner truck.
Mahoko confirmed the accident and once more appealed to members of the public to exercise caution on roads.
The accident occurred on January 10, 2022 at around 2030 hours along Gokwe-Kwekwe road.
