…….victim seizes gun from assailants, fire blank shots

By Virginia Njovo

A group of robbers got more than what they bargained for when one of their victims seized an opportunity to grab a gun left on the table firing it in the air sending the attackers running for dear life.

The incident happened on January 16 at Madzivanyika High School in Masvingo South when the suspects tried to rob the school and the school head’s son’s quick thinking helped foil the robbery.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident to TellZim News and advised the general public to keep money in safe places like banks which are secure.

“I can confirm an incident of attempted robbery at Madzivanyika High School on January 16. Investigations are ongoing and I want to urge members of the public and business community to keep money and valuables in safer places such as banks,” said Inspector Dhewa.

Sources told TellZim News that on January 16, two unidentified robbers came by the Madzivanyika High teachers’ living quarters pretending to be looking for a teacher who was no longer teaching at the school.

The two assailants came back the same day around 2000 hrs and went to the school head’s house where they found his two sons cooking supper, forced them to lie down at gunpoint asking for their father’ whereabouts  whom they said he would come back after a while.

The head Fredrick Mazarire came back to find his sons on the ground with robbers pointing a gun at them.

He was forced him to lie down while they demanded the school safe keys which he said were not on him at the moment.

The robbers collected cell phones and other valuables but another cell phone rang in another room, and one of the robbers placed his pistol on the table and headed towards the bedroom where the sound was coming from.

In a movie style, one of the head’s sons sprang up and took the gun and fired two shots towards the robber who then fled into the dark since the gun was loaded with blank rounds

The other robber whom they had taken hostage also fled leaving one of the victims holding onto his jacket.
