                                                              Tenson Mukapa

Cephas Shava
MWENEZI – Masvingo
Provincial Education Director (PED), Zedius Chitiga has applauded learning conditions
and massive developmental initiatives at Rutenga Primary School.
Chitiga
said the developments had proved that the school was under a visionary and hardworking
leadership.
Addressing
school heads, pupils and other participants who attended the 2018 Provincial
Merit Awards ceremony at the school last Friday, November 02, Chitiga praised
school head Tenson Mukapa for transforming Rutenga Primary.
“What
we are seeing here does not need to be explained further. This is the diligence
with which the school head has always executed his duties even before he came
here to Rutenga. At his former school, people did not want him to leave,” said
Chitiga.
Rutenga
Primary is making impressive progress in the improvement of school
infrastructure, with a new administration block and 2 x 2 classroom blocks about
to be completed.
Mukapa
moved to Rutenga from Dare Primary School in Chivi district in July 2017.
He
told TellZim News in a side interview that he could not have achieved what he
has achieved at Rutenga Primary without support from the School Development
Committee (SDC), staff and parents.
“As
you can see, we are now about to complete the administration block. Despite the
current economic challenges, we are very sure that by the end of November, all the
work will have been done.
“A
fishery project is also in our plans and work on the fish pond has been
completed. We recently started a rabbit project and we have 15 rabbits and we
hope to expand the project soon.
“I
am also pleased with the school garden which is producing various types of fresh
produce for the market. These are some of the improvements we are currently
doing but we are working to do more,” said Mukapa.
Last
year, the school topped the district after a total of 43 out of 118 pupils who
sat for their final grade seven examinations attained between 5 and10 units.
With
a current enrolment of 1 174 pupils, the school has a total of 27 qualified
teachers and 18 student teachers.
