A Masvingo Central police officer who used his uniform as surety after failing to pay a sex worker was last week cautioned and discharged by Masvingo provincial magistrate, Langton Ndokera.
Givemore Marara, who was represented by Collen Maboke of Ruvengo, Maboke and Company Legal Practitioners appeared before the courts after he made a false report to Victoria Range Police Base that his uniform had been stolen.
The State, led by Nancy Makuvise, told the court that on June 21, 2016, Marara, who resides at 7038 Ephraim Gwanongodza Street in Victoria Range, met Mary Gavaza, a sex worker, at Ritz Night Club.
The pair agreed to spend the night together for US$20. They proceeded to 15670 Mayor Urimbo Street in Runyararo West where they spent the night.
The following morning, after failing to pay the stipulated amount, Marara told Gavaza to keep his uniform as assurance that he will come back and pay her money.
He had also asked Gavaza to wash the uniform but he later proceeded to Victoria Range Police base where he made a report to Constable Gamunorwa that his uniform had been stolen.
Gavaza disputed Marara’s assertions saying the uniform was never collected from her and she only learnt of the case after four police officers visited her home.
However, Marara’s case with the Police Disciplinary Tribunal is still pending and a ruling is expected to be made later.news
