The Roman Catholic-run Silveira High School in Bikita District recently held its speech and prize-giving day, celebrating its achievements in academic, cultural, sporting activities and infrastructure development.
The event dubbed the ‘Combined Thanks Giving and Building Commissioning’ ceremony showcased outstanding achievements by learners, teachers, and other staff members in various categories.
In a celebratory message, Masvingo Diocese Bishop Raymond Tapiwanashe Mupandasekwa congratulated the teachers and learners who showcased brilliance in different categories.
“I want to congratulate both teachers at the High School and Nursing School who nurtured these young people and nurses to succeed. We thank you for the sacrifices,” said Mupandasekwa.
The awards were designed in multiple categories to recognize and celebrate the exceptional abilities of all learners and staff members from different disciplines.
In the academic category, eight learners received awards for being exceptional in the 2023 Zimsec Advanced (‘A’) and Ordinary (‘O’) level exams.
Cardette Dhliwayo who got 30 points received both the Overall Best Learner Award and the Best in Science Subjects Award. Twins Sharon and Shelter Ngwangwani, who each scored 20 points in the Commercials class, were jointly awarded the Exceptional Commercial Subjects Award.
In Arts subjects, the award for being the best learner went to Eston Danai (24 points) and Keith Sithole who also scored 24 points.
Under the O-level banner Blessing Zambezi and Tadiwanashe Chaibva both with 12 As were jointly awarded the Overall Best O-Level Award. Zambezi was also recognized as the Best Learner in the Science Subjects while Chaibva was given the Best Learner in the Arts class.
The Best Learner Award in Commercials was received by Mutatavikwa Brooklyn who got also 12As in the 2023 O-level Zimsec examinations.
In the sporting category, 13 learners were recognized for their excellence in various disciplines. Believe Mutengwa (4B) was named the Best Male Tennis Player, while Lufono Munyai emerged as the Best Female Tennis Player.
The Best Male in Volleyball went to Koglan Sakala (U6Sc) while the Best Female award in the discipline went to Primrose Semende.
In Handball Chikozho Bright was crowned the Best Male (L6) and Musana Nokutenda received the Best Female award.
Makoni Nicole also walked away with the Best Female award in Basket Ball while Mangombe Tadiwanashe was awarded the Best Male award.
Nhundu Tariro (2C) was given the Best Female award in athletics while Zvikomborero Fuma was recognized as the Best Male athlete.
In Soccer Kudzwai Munaro (U6A) received the Best Male award while Primrose Mabunu got the Best Award in the Netball discipline.
The Best Male award in Darts went to Prosper Takambani.
In the Cultural and Religious category, Angela Chadzamira (F4) received the Smartest Girl award, Tawananyasha Mazura (U6Sc) got the Smartest Boy. The Most Disciplined Girl award went to Nokutenda Musana (U6Sc) while Makuza Vitalis walked away with Most Disciplined Boy award.
School Head Stern Mutsambiwa said the school is committed to fostering a culture of high achievement and providing learners with the skills and experiences to become well-rounded individuals who can make a difference in the world.
“We remain committed to nurturing a culture of excellence and empowering our learners to became well-rounded individuals who are ready to make a positive impact on the world,” said Mutsambiwa.
Teachers and ancillary staff were also given prizes for their brilliance.
Antony Mugadzi a Pure Mathematics teacher with 29As got the Best ‘A’ level results (quantity) while Enias Kondo who got 17 As (100 percent) got the Best Quality award.
Shadreck Machokoto and Mudzingo received the Best O-level results, Quantity and Quality awards, as they got 152As in Heritage Studies in 2023.
In ancillary staff, Norman Ngwangwani received the Most Improved Worker award while Mapfumo got the Best Female Worker and Farai Shate walked away with the Best Male Worker award.
The school also celebrated the school’s choir team which was declared the 2023 Choral Champions in the national choir competitions that were held in Chinhoyi last year.
