Like an eagle above the clouds, Pamushana High School is flying high and is setting the pace for the rest yet no other school seems to have what it takes to mount a real challenge both in academics and sports.
Last week Pamushana High School held its annual prize giving day where their success story for the year 2017 was laid bare for all to see.
School head Johnson Madhuku said he was satisfied by their accomplishments in class and in the sports grounds.
“As is depicted by our school logon – an eagle going for its prey, Pamushana Chikoro Chemakondo continues to emulate the eagle: great vision, precision, swiftness in attack and taking its prey by surprise, diligence and excellence.
“Our academic prowess is unsurpassed at both ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels. In the 2014 ‘A’ level classes, we had 19 pupils with 15 points and above. In 2015, we had 38 pupils with 15 points and above. In 2016, we had 28 pupils with 15 points and above, 19 of them in sciences.
“We don’t only excel academically, but in the whole curriculum package we give to the learner; in sports, arts and culture,” said Madhuku.
Indeed, Pamushana High School has a story to tell regarding its largely successful sporting endeavours that have seen them winning some of the most prestigious awards of the year.
In the just ended Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Nassaf games in Harare, Pamushana pupils performed remarkably well and got 1st position (gold) in 200 m courtesy of Kundai Maguranyanga who also won bronze in the 200 m category while representing Zimbabwe at the African Youth Championships in Algeria last July.
At the same Nassaf competitions, a form four female pupil took first position for the best cake making skills in the Food Technology Exhibition category. The school’s form six pupils also came first in Science Exhibitions with their automatic poultry feeding machine.
At international level, Pamushana fielded five netball players for the 2017 Cossasa games that were played in Lesotho. One of the players, Clarks Kwaramba is in the national netball team which did very well in Angola last July.
Madhuku revealed the school quiz team will represent Zimbabwe in the Regional Schools Quiz championship slated for Tanzania in February 2018.
He thanked the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ) for the financial support they have consistently given to the school.education
