Deputy Provincial Education Director for Masvingo Diga Mandiudza last week presided over the official launch of non-formal education at Zaka Primary School, making Zaka district the first in the province to implement the project.
Speaking on behalf of Provincial Education Director Zedius Chitiga, Mandiudza said it was important to spread knowledge by making education more accessible to everyone.
“Because of its crucial role in our ministry, Zaka district has seen it worthy to launch the policy in a bid to transmit information to everyone in the district,” said Mandiudza.
He said non-formal education will provide basic literacy, functional literacy, Zimbabwe Adult Basic Education Course (ZABEC) as well as open and distance learning.
“It is my sincere hope that the implementation of the non-formal education policy shall yield best results in Zaka district,” he said.
Mandiudza urged school heads to implement the initiative at their schools with urgency.
“If I get to your school and find you haven’t introduced non-formal education you will be held accountable,” warned Mandiudza.
He urged the local traditional leadership to encourage their people to take advantage of the new programme to improve their lives.
“Tell your people to go for non-formal education because if they do not, munotambura nekutonga mhosva (you will have trouble presiding over endless crime).
Chief Ndanga, Reuben Chimedza said people must utilise the opportunity to go to school and report those who prevent others from exploiting the initiative.
“Ndichatonga vasingaendi kana vanokonesa vamwe kuenda (I will summon all those who do not go or who stop others from going)” Chief Ndanga said.news
