The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) group of schools last week held their inter-ZCC athletics competitions at Mutendi High School where all their five schools including Mutendi, Hebron, KwaMutevhure high schools and two primary schools—Mutendi and Mutarara participated.
The director of sports for the ZCC group of schools Shingirirai Matsongoni said the sporting event is meant to foster unity amongst the schools and create sportsmanship between the pupils.
“The rationale of the gathering is to foster unity among Z.C.C schools and sharpen and propel sportsmanship among the students,” said Matsongoni.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Heads of Schools, Mukora Mazvazva pointed out that it is the wish of Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi to make Z.C.C schools shine in both academic and sporting areas.
He revealed that the same programme will be extended to Z.C.C schools in Chinhoyi and Gokwe.
The major events that attracted the spectators’ interest were the relays. These generated a lot of interest in both the primary and secondary section.
The team that emerged victorious in the senior boys’ category was the Hebron High School team.
At the end of the tournament, Hebron came tops with 40 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 14 bronze medals followed by Mutendi High School with 28 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 18 bronze and lastly KwaMutevhure High School with 16 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 39 bronze.sport
