Zhombe– A 17-year-old girl died after taking rat poison in Mlotshwa Village under Chief Samambwaon August 18 around 1700 hours, after failing to stomach accusations of stealing US$50 from a neighbor.
The teenager, who was at home with her mother, was confronted by a neighbor, Beauty Sinyoro, who accused her of stealing the money. The girl denied the accusations, and went on to take rat poison shortly after.
Some villagers later found her lying at her gate, with froth coming from her mouth and nose, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.
In another inicident, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have launched a manhunt for three suspects involved in a violent armed robbery that occurred on August 18, 2024.
The incident took place around 3:30 PM in Fitchlea, Kwekwe.
According to police reports, Courage Mugari, a 29-year-old resident, was approached by the suspects while he was with two friends. The men, who presented themselves as sellers of gold ore, lured Mugari to a secluded area behind a fowl run. Once there, they produced two pistols and threatened Mugari with them. One of the suspects also used an electric shocker on Mugari, forcing him to sit down.
The robbers searched Mugari’s pockets, stealing USD$7,000 in cash and a cell phone, before fleeing the scene. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at $7,250.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the developments in both incidents and is appealing for information regarding the circumstances of the second incident.
“Anyone with tips or information can contact local law enforcement authorities as efforts continue to apprehend the suspects involved.
