MASVINGO –
Ratidzo School for the Disabled has launched an appeal with members of the public
and organisations for donations to enable it to operate optimally.
The
boarding school, which is run by ZimCare Trust, houses some 120
mentally-challenged learners and other people with other forms of disabilities
Zimcare Trust School head E Runesu said most
learners were under the government’s Basic Education Assistance Module (Beam)
programme but much of the money was not being paid.
“This
time around Beam has failed to meet its requirements and it has arrears dating back
to 2015. His has made it difficult for the school to provide for the learners,”
said Runesu.
Runesu
said the school had now premised its hope on the generosity of well-wishers as
operations at the school were getting very hard to sustain in the absence of
reliable streams of income.
He
said the school accepts all donations be they in cash or kind so that it can
solve some of the most pressing problems like the ballooning electricity, phone
and water bills.
Runesu
said the school also needed to maintain its facilities and pay for
transportation.
“It is from this background that we kindly
request everybody to help the school within their capacity. We require
toiletries and food items like cooking oil, mealie-meal, sugar, rice and beans,”
he said.
