Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) – run Zimuto High School last week successfully held a prize giving day ceremony which was the first under the stewardship of the new school head Harris Mashava.
Speaking during the ceremony Mashava, who took over from retired former Ebson Chihanga, said he was working hard to improve the school academically and otherwise.
“We are working hard to improve the quality of our results and the infrastructure. Currently, our computer teacher won the provincial award as the best teacher and we have students who are excelling in academics and sports,” said Mashava.
The guest speaker at the event was Simon Mupindu, a former pupil at the school who is now a legal practitioner.
Mupindu warned pupils not to be carried away by current achievements but to look forward to doing more.
“When you win a prize today, the question that should come to your mind is will I ever succeed in future, because academic achievements are a reflector that you can do better in life,” said Mupindu.
Dr Johannes Marisa of the Marisa Foundation donated two laptops to Mubaiwa Gwatirisa and Munashe Chokuona for being best ‘O’ and ‘A’ level pupils respectively.
Speaking during the handover, Dr Marisa said the foundation will always be there to support the school.
“The Marisa Foundation will always be there to support my former school and motivate my young brothers and sisters to work hard. The school is going to identify a pupil who has passion for his/her school, well disciplined and intelligent but struggling to pay for fees. I am going to assist that child with fees until he/she completes ‘A’ level.
Chokuona, himself a beneficiary of Marisa Foundation, said he will forever be grateful for the support given to him by the foundation.
“I am happy today that I am now beginning to reap the fruits of hardwork and I thank the foundation for giving me the laptop,” said Chokuona.
Chokuona, who won third prize in the national Olympiad exams and is doing Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics, already has 10 points, having passed Maths and Physics in the June exam sitting.education
