The number of lives being lost due to traffic accidents continue to rise everyday despite numerous awareness by organisations like Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and the police against negligence and human error.
Police have confirmed yet another traffic accident that occurred on September 29 where Adonis Panashe Moyo who was a driver at Pamushana High School in Bikita died after being involved in a fatal road accident where he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.
Masvingo Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the accident and the death of Moyo.
“I confirm the death of Moyo who was announced dead upon admission at Masvingo Provincial Hospital after being involved in an accident due to over speeding,” said Dhewa.
Circumstances are that early morning of the same day, Moyo was driving from Pamushana High School heading towards Mutare with Tatenda Dzigira (27) of Sengai village, Chief Mukanganwi when he lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road, overturned multiple times before landing on its left side.
Moyo sustained head injuries while Dzingira got injured on the leg.
They were both taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where Moyo was announced dead on admission; the body was taken to mortuary for post-mortem.
Dhewa warned drivers to be cautious on the road and avoid speeding to preserve lives.
“I urge drivers to avoid speeding and be attentive while driving so as to avoid avoidable tragedies,” he said.
