The government has given the green
light for the establishment of the Sese Irrigation Scheme which is meant to
boost crop production and turn around the economic fortunes of Chivi’s Ward 20 community
and the whole district at large.

The irrigation scheme will be supplied
by water from Tugwi River which will be fed by the Muzhwi Dam.

Chivi District Development Coordinator
(DDC) Innocent Matingwini gave permission to councillor Alec Nhundu’s to start the
irrigation scheme.

Nhundu confirmed the developments saying
that the Sese Irrigation Scheme will help the community realize its agriculture
potential for subsistence and commercial purposes.

“The irrigation scheme will help our
community especially the youth, less privileged, and also the district at
large,” said Nhundu.

The project will focus on cash crops which
will enable people to realize profits from their toil.

“Tugwi River will supply water to the
project and feed the earth dams for back up,” said Nhundu.

The irrigation scheme is in line with
the government’s vision 2030 of ensuring food security and nutrition in the
country.

Matingwini advised the councilor and
the community to link up with departments such as Agritex, ZINWA, Veterinary
Services and many others to ensure that there is efficiency and effectiveness
throughout the project.
