27 April 2017, GWERU – A cattle herder from Munyamani village in Mberengwa was recently sentenced to ten years imprisonment by Gweru Magistrate Morgan Nemadire after he pleaded guilty to raping his employers’ 11-year-old daughter.
Magistrate Gumbo suspended two years on condition that the accused does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
The court heard that man and the girl fell in love in May 2016 and on several occasions, the man lured the minor into his bedroom for sexual intercourse, each time giving her US$1 to buy her silence.
On March 18, 2017 at around 09:00 hrs, the accused requested that the complainant accompany him to a nearby well to fetch some water and she agreed. He then took her to a bush where he stripped her naked and raped her but act was seen from a distance by the minor’s sister who then reported the case to their mother.
After being asked, the minor revealed that the accused had violated her on several incidences and a police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused.
