GUTU – A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer from Dondo village in Dewure was last week taken to Chief Gutu’s court by her husband, who is member of the Zimbabwe Nation Army (ZNA), over infidelity allegations and was ordered to pay back the bride price in three months time.

The court heard that in May last year, Munyaradzi Nheta (38), a ZNA officer in Kwekwe customarily married Vimbai Dondo (26) who works in Harare and paid US$2000 in lobola.

Nheta said the relationship turned sour in August last year when the two were supposed to start staying together.

“She started making excuses and went back to her two former husbands, Guidence Mugwagwa and a Mugari. She called me names and would not take me in when I visit her and would assault me and call her brother to threaten me,” said Nheta.

He told the court that he twice opened domestic violence charges against Dondo but she in turn applied for a protection order against him.

“She accused me of having an adulterous affair with her elder sister Elizabeth and impregnating her but all I did was discouraging her from aborting her pregnancy. I cannot be denied the right to stay with my wife after paying lobola while she stays with another man,” he said.

Dondo made it clear she no longer wanted anything to do with Munyaradzi and was ordered to pay US$1000 or three beats through Chief Gutu’s court.

“I do not love him anymore because he was involved with my sister. He is not faithful and is arrogant. I will pay his money back but I don’t think that it is fair to pay him all the money,” said Dondo.

The chief, Edmund Masanganise, also rebuked the two saying they were disrespectful and a disgrace before ordering them to apologise to their parents.

ROY – A war veterans meeting held on June 4 in Gutu ended on a sad note with a group of war collaborators getting involved in a fatal accident which claimed 2 lives and injured 32 after the lorry they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned.

Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the accident and warned drivers against speeding to avoid endangering human life on the highways. 

The accident took place near Gutu turn-off along the Masvingo-Mutare highway when the lorry driver, Clifford Musana veered off the road after failing to negotiate a curve as he drove.

One person died on the spot while another died on arrival at Ndanga hospital where the injured were also admitted.

The lorry was carrying 36 people, with 13 of them sustaining serious injuries though they were said to be stable.

The names of the deceased people are Panganai Banda (58) and Sarah Muchipi (60).news

Masvingo Propol Gala soccer finals between Masvingo Central District and ZRP Masvingo Provincial Headquarters (PHQ) ended with 5-4 goals in favour of the former in penalty shoot-outs after the 90 minutes had ended with a 1-1 draw in a match played at Zimuto Camp last Friday.

All eyes were glued on Constable Frank Mageze of ZRP Chikato who was later crowned man of the tournament while his team mates, Sergeant Owen Tatsaukana became the top goal scorer of the tournament.

ZRP Masvingo Central District is going to represent the province in most of the disciplines after it walked home with a collection of trophies.

In most of the games the district took trophies in both men and women soccer categories, volleyball and most of the pool categories while its biggest rival, PHQ dominated in darts.

In women soccer, constable Confidence Mupeti of Mwenezi was the star attraction who was later crowned lady of the tournament after shrugging off competition from Constable Penelope Mugari of Masvingo Rural.

Many people were so impressed by Constable Mupeti’s skills that they said she could still have won the titles in the male categories as well if the categories were to be combined.

Various participants walked away with gold, bronze and silver medals in different disciplines like weight lifting and athletics. 

The Guest of honour was Officer Commanding Masvingo province, Assistant Commissioner Martha Mofolo who thanked the participants of their commendable discipline and spirit of commitment throughout the games.news

It was a fierce battle between miners when Shabani Mine FC crushed a stubborn Ivan Hall Mine 1-0 in a crunch fixture at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane last Sunday.

The win left Shabani two points clear leading the Central Division 1 League and left them confident of a return to the top flight league next season.

The determined Chinda Boys, seemed well prepared to clip the wings of the high flying Ivan Hall Mine FC which had not known any defeat since the beginning of the Central Region Division 1 league.

Ivan Hall goalkeeper, Alfonsi Banda kept frustrating the hosts’ frantic efforts to see the back of the net until the 7th minute when a slick pass from Bruno Mtigo to Admire Mutsambwa resulted in the goal. 

The goal was a wakeup call for the visitors as who maintained their dominance  of possession in the midfield, with Kudzai Matore creating good forward moves only to be let down by their final third.

They were awarded a free kick in the 30th minute which they, however, failed to convert into a goal.

Tempers flared when the match was stopped for five minutes after a horror tackle by Shabani’s Moses Moyo against David Semba nearly resulted in a fist fight which saw Ivan Hall’s medic being red-carded for incitement.

The second half again saw a resurgence of the tempers and resulted in about 30 minutes delay with police being called after agitated Shabani supporters started to throw objects onto the pitch.

Shabanie FC coach Tendai Chikuni had to ask his captain to pacify angry supporters.

Speaking after the match, Shabanie FC gaffer Tendai Chikuni said he knew the game was going to be tough as Ivan Hall was not an easy opponent.

“I told the guys that we needed a score in the first 15 minutes to unsettle the opponent and I am happy we managed to do that,” said Chikuni, adding he was, however, not happy with the officiating.

Ivan Hall coach, Isaac Nyabvure accepted the defeat with humility but was quick to condemn the violence that rocked the game.

“It’s one of the unfortunate things that happen in football. There is nothing too strange about that, the better team won the game,” said Nyabvure.sport

Chivi – The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs held its first ever constitutional alignment outreach programme at district level in Chivi, giving villagers in the district an opportunity to air their views on the contentious alignment process. 

Speaking at the event, the Attorney General, Advocate Prince Machaya who was the guest of honour, said it was important that people are interested in constitutional matters.

“We came to make sure that existing laws which are inconsistent with the new constitution especially laws that have to do with the rights of the people are aligned. My mandate is to make sure that every law is in line to the constitution,” said Adv Machaya.

He said there were 396 pieces of legislation which need to be aligned to the constitution, saying only 154 laws have been aligned so far with 49 others being worked on.

Adv Machaya also told people not to be bound by laws and acts that are not in line with the current constitution saying that such laws had become null.

Permanent Secretary Mabhiza in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs encouraged people to make use of the ministry’s free legal advice services. 

“I encourage people to approach the Ministry for free legal advice at our various offices located in your nearest areas. I also encourage people to report all cases of corruption and everyone must play their part in fighting corruption,” she said.

The meeting was also graced by other dignitaries including Chivi District Administrator Bernard Hadziramwi, Chivi Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson Tariro Matavire and Killer Zivhu respectively.

The Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has come out guns blazing attacking the Zaka Primary School head Tawedzerwa Masase for threatening to use of violence against teachers and extorting money from them to sponsor Zanu-PF functions.

Sources say Masase has connections to the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) who last week took the PTUZ Provincial Manager, and teacher at the school, Eston Mathews for interrogation on allegations of inciting other teachers to defy Zanu-PF.

PTUZ President Dr Takavafira Zhou said the rights of teachers must be respected and there must not be any undue political interference with their work.

“It’s clear that schools are now an extension of partisan party politics through school leaders. How can a mere school head threaten to use violence against innocent teachers?

“As PTUZ we strongly condemn the actions of Masase and the CIO for interfering with teachers’ affairs. How can a headmaster force people to fund Zanu-PF functions? It all started a long time ago from the 21st February Movement celebrations when teachers were forced to pay US$5 each to fund the event,” said Dr Zhou. 

He said Matthews had noticed that the abuse was going too far and had refused to give in, thereby putting himself on a collision course with Masase who then went and reported him to the CIO.

“He was inhumanely treated and beaten up and we condemn such actions in a democratic Zimbabwe. We condemn both the government for appointing the head on political grounds. We therefore call on the government to remove Masase from the school since he has failed to execute his duties professionally,” Dr Zhou said.

“We have gathered that Masase was linked to the 2008 election violence where innocent people like Simbarashe Chikomba were killed just because they did not support Zanu-PF.

“The government has to intervene urgently and protect the teachers at Zaka Primary from a deranged head. Education should be left to educators,” added Dr Zhou.

Zaka District Education Officer (DEO) James Mahofa professed ignorance over the matter saying he has not received the report yet.

“I haven’t heard about such a story. If it happened I am sure I will get the details then get back to you,” said Mahofa.news

Zimbabwe Empowerment Movement, leader Garikai Sithole died this week after succumbing to short illness in Harare recently, TellZim News has learnt. He was 41.

Funeral arrangements for the late opposition leader and son to the late ZANU Ndonga leader; Ndabaningi Sithole were however still sketchy by time of going to print.

CHIVI – Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Virginia Mabhiza has urged Zimbabweans to accept prisoners who were released on Presidential Amnesty, saying they were people who deserved to be given a second chance in life.

Mabhiza said this while addressing people in Chivi at the constitutional alignment outreach programme organised by her ministry.

A villager had asked why they were seeing people convicted of various crimes returning back to their homes as free people.

“We must accept the people who were released on Presidential Amnesty in our communities because they are our relatives. Despite the crimes that they did, they deserve second chances because they are human beings as well,” she said.

Speaking to TellZim News, Mabhiza said that the amnesty released people who committed minor crimes but did not release those who committed serious crimes like murder or rape to protect the citizens.

Last month, President Mugabe announced an amnesty that almost emptied all female prisons but also benefitted a number of male offenders convicted of lesser crimes.news
