Mahofa donates borehole to city council

Itai Muzondo
In a bid to fight water shortages in the city, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Shuvai Mahofa has pledged to donate a borehole to the Masvingo City council.
Masvingo Town Clerk Adolf Gusha said council appreciates the Provincial Minister’s sign of goodwill.
“The Minister wrote to us advising that she will donate a borehole to Masvingo City Council to be drilled at the Civic Centre Gardens. Feasibility studies will be carried out to determine a suitable site. The borehole will be the second in the Civic Centre Gardens and will assist during water shortages. Council has since accepted the donation,” Gusha said.
When conducted for comment, Mahofa said she wishes to do all that she can to help other communities across the province to have access to clean water.
“I am working on a borehole that I will donate to Masvingo City Council. My wish is to embark on other developmental projects in the province. Lack of resources is the major limitation but we will continue to work hard to improve the welfare of our people,” Mahofa said.news

Mandava burst sewer pipes a health time bomb

0
Patricia Makubaro
Zvishavane – Residents in Mandava surbub are complaining over the lack of repairs on burst water and sewer pipes, saying the neglect of such crucial infrastructure poses a danger to the health of residents.
Residents say the gushing sewer water has provided a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
“Mosquitoes are breeding at this place and this is not healthy for all of us,” said Alice Tabvirei, who is a resident of the suburb.
To make matters worse, some people are also throwing used condoms into stagnant pools of dirty water, exposing them to children who play around.
“We are not always around to monitor our children and they sometimes end up picking things they should not be picking at all,” said a disgruntled mother.
Residents who stay at ‘Majaradha’ told this publication that council does not seem to care about the deteriorating infrastructure in the town.
However, other residents seem to have gotten used to their dirty surroundings so much that they now enjoy their meals in the outside, despite the putrid smells.
“We are now used to the smell and it affects us no more,” said Tafara Dhewa.
The sewer bursts have been like that for several months now with other residents planting vegetables close to them to make full use of the free water.
“Council is fully aware of this mess but they take no action. We see council employees jumping the pools all the time like everybody else without seeming to care,” said Taurai Ncube.
No comment could be taken from council, with the town engineer said to have gone to Bulawayo on official duties.news

Pamberi naNgwena maCdes!

Something must be very wrong Cdes! I mean there is something wrong in the manner this country is being run. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zimbabwe Private (Pvt) Limited (Ltd) must be very incompetent and LAZY. E-eh private Limited company ndiyo cheteka yekuti the owner cannot be fired zvekumhanya. CEO anotonga kusvika aneta akada kupa mwana kana mukadzi kuti ambotongawo ndiye kutyei iri private company – it’s a family business ka!
But I was bored recently; someone awakened me from a deep sleep kwedu kwaDr Grace Trading Centre uko ndakarara zvangu mumaplastic. The person was playing some music and the sound was very loud. But I ended up enjoying one of the songs from Alick Macheso yekuti ‘Zvawaita zvandirangaridza chegore riye’. I laughed lungs out as I started to visualize some of the scenes involving our war veterans that occurred in Harare during the past few months. Kkkkkkkk kudirwa mvura inososona here akomana kkkkk WAR VETERANS?
President Robert Mugabe havaitirwe demonstration zvekumanya maCdes kkkkk. Musandirangaridze chegore riye akomana varume vakuru kumhanyiswa senge pwere; kuita senge musinawo kurwira nyika ino? Kkkkkk the only marches and demonstrations that are accepted are for the President and not against the President. Eheka mukaita million-man march to prop up support for President or demo against the Western hamuchione. Not against the CEO kkkkkkk munofarisa maCdes.
And Mapombi heard some of the war veterans were labelled dissidents last week. Dissidents! O-oh yes dissidents – and Mapombi is very sure you know what this means Cdes; watch out for Gukurahundi Part 2.  By the way is it Part 2 or 3? Ko paye painzi Morgan Tsvangirai kakadashurwa yaive Part aniko iye?
Mugabe’s uncouth and reckless statement should be condemned by all strongest possible terms – kuti rangaridza gukurahundi hatichada! Refering our Cdes who fought and died for this country as dissents is unpardonable. Mapombi as an unbeatable record of being a real gentleman – handivanzi ini! The CEO’s utterances were not acceptable to say the least.
But Mapombi heard something – hanzi there are some places somewhere in Singapore, India and China where one can go for brain sharpening. Ko hakunawo here kunoitiwa zve anti-ageing vakomana? If there is any place for such maiendawoka nana gogo Shuvai Mahofa and company because zvimwe zvava kutaurwa izvi hazvisisina maturo. Kkkkkk please get me right, I said gogo Shuvai and company, not otherwise. Priz priz get that right or else Mapombi will be in serious trouble with those guys who wear cheap nylon suits and dark glasses.
Mapombi is blunt sometimes – anobaya dede nemumukanwa chaimo. This country needs overhaul – we now need a new CEO or else the company should be placed under Judicial management. We all know kuti Garwe haridye chebamba asi apa rikatadza rinofa nenzara nekuti hapana chinouya neronga apa. We have been trying the same formulae to solve the economic equation for the past 36 years but, alas, we have failed. In 1980 there were fewer potholes than today; our money had value but today we have no currency kkkkkkk haa yaa Zanu PF yambotionesa chitsvuku vakomana. Hanzi Bond what? Bond coins, Notes?  Mapombi heard the maximum daily withdrawal for individuals is now $100? Kkkkk zvakaoma hazvo. Isu hedu vana Mapombi hatina Mabank accounts but hama dzeduwo dzinozotipawo rotten bananas ndodzatinonzwirawo tsitsi.
Anyway, Mapombi is impressed by the war vets – hatidzore tsvimbo nekuti gudo rabata kumeso maCdes! The company (Zimbabwe) is facing liquidation and the CEO should handover the button to his immediate junior – chinhu ngachimbopiwawo garwe vakomana! Kkkk but Mapombi like the courage ine mawar vets this time around – they were labelled dissidents and threatened to be crushed like ‘cockroaches’   but havatombovhunduke. Ngwena yakarindira chitanda ichi for quite some time and to evade him simply because Mukaranga hazvichaita! Ko iwo Mazezuru ndiwo akaita seiko? Should the Makaranga, Ndebeles, Tonga, Korekore, Manyika, Shangani and Venda leave this country and find somewhere to stay so that the ‘unconquerable Zezurus can remain vachitonga? Haa izvi zvazonyanya izvi. Ngwena ngaimbopiwawo chitanda zvoendawo kuManyika nekumaNdebele zvichingotenderera. After all, we all fought for this country – I mean all the tribes. So no tribe should be dominant over others.
Mapombi is a gentleman haavanzi – war vets vanoda kupiwa sando apa. Speak up your mind Cdes! Ngwena kuvanhu! Ahh it’s almost lunch time, let me end hear lest I will be accused of yep yepping. Regai ndindokanga hangu maputi angu for lunch. But nzara tanzwa vakomana even rotten bananas are hard to come by kuno kwaDr Grace Trading Centre.
Kkkkk life sometimes so ka ma1 – ndiri kutonetseka kutsvaga mabananas akaora but Mphoko has been staying in hotel since appointment. Kkkkk haya gore munhu achigara muhotera ndokutongaka uku? Imbotai asi zivai kuti mufaro mwena ukautevedza unoguma. Mboko imboko!!!!Mapombi

Man kills mother over ‘road runner’, hangs self

0
Memory Rasa
A 32 year old man from Kuchinei village under Chief Chimombe, Gutu district, last week murdered his mother in cold blood for slaughtering his chicken to feed a visitor and later committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree.
Bhasera police referred questions to the Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Charity Mazula who could not be immediately be conducted for a comment.
Farai Tamanika Sharara is said to have killed his mother, Otilia Sharara (71) on Saturday 11 June around in the afternoon by hitting her on the head four times with a pestle for slaughtering a hen for his sister, Otilia’s daughter, without his consent.
Farai, who was not around at the time his sister, identified as Tsitsi Sharara, arrived from Zaka, found his mother preparing the meat and scolded her for slaughtering the chicken which had small chicks.
Sources say Tsitsi told Bhasera police she had tried in vain to stop her brother from shouting at their mother.
Farai is said to have got even angrier and started insulting Tsitsi, saying their mother could have slaughtered the rooster instead of a hen.
It is at this point that Farai took a pestle and swore that somebody was going to die; either him or somebody else.
Sensing grave danger, Tsiti then rushed to neighbours to look for help leaving her mother rebuking the irate Farai.
When she returned with the neighbours some moments later, they found Otilia lying dead in pool of blood before finding Farai hanging in a tree a few metres away from their home stead.
The two bodies were taken to Gutu Mission hospital by Bhasera police.

Brighton Chiseva
ZAKA – All four Zaka constituencies last week joined the rest of the country in selecting child parliamentarians for the next parliament with Zaka North and Central being asked to field male candidates while Zaka East and West were reserved for females.
Zaka East held its elections at Matara Secondary School while Zaka West ran the process at Rudhanda High School.
Zaka Central ran its selection process at Chinorumba High School, with Zaka North conducting its own process at Mutsambwa Secondary School.
Pamela Charles, a Form 3 pupil at Matara Secondary School won the Zaka East seat after beating five other rivals from different schools in the constituency.

Elections for the Zaka North seat saw a Form 3 pupil of Mutsambwa Secondary, Liberty Chawa winning with 11 votes.
The selection process was guided by debates on the topic “Conflict and Crisis in Africa: Protecting Children’s Rights” on which each participant would make a five minutes presentation.

Laptops now compulsory at Musiso High School

0
Brighton Chiseva
Zaka – The Catholic-run Musiso High School is taking ICT education to a higher level after the school reached an agreement with parents at a recent Annual General Meeting that laptops should be compulsory for every pupil beginning next term.
Musiso school head, Modesta Tinago told parents that they were now expected to buy their kids laptops, iPods or smartphones to access the internet as per government expectations.
The new policy was adopted after extensive deliberations that saw the school making security commitments to ensure that children will only use the devices for academic purposes.
Parents were worried that information and communication technology devices like smartphones would be used by their children to do undesirable things such as unsanctioned communication and social media abuse.
The headmistress assured the parents that by the beginning of next term the school would have put security measures in place.
“We are not saying the laptops should be available to pupils now but by the beginning of next term they should have them and by then, we would have found some restrictive security measures to ensure the devices will only be used to improve education,” said Tinago.
Speaking at the AGM the District Education Officer (DEO), James Mahofa said schools were no longer supposed to worry about computer laboratories as computers should be a learning tool in every learning environment.
“We must not only build computer laboratories and end there. We have to make sure that computers become a standard in every lesson as a way of improving access to the latest knowledge,” said Mahofa.
He also urged other headmasters who attended the meeting to develop their schools and do away with a situation where they avoid enrolling their own children at schools they lead.education

Tsiga Secondary dreams big

0
Upenyu Chaota
Located 14 km east of Jerera growth point in Zaka Central, Tsiga Secondary School is faced with an array of problems but has managed to soldier on to produce impressive academic results, making it one of the most remarkable schools in the district.
With an enrolment of about 500 pupils and 21 teaching staff, Tsiga secondary dreams of introducing Advanced Level classes.
The school Head, Fanuel Mukokoromba said Tsiga faces a number of problems, saying if the corporate world chips in, there would be a more conducive learning environment for pupils.
“We are a small school with a very small enrolment as compared to others. We face a lot of challenges but over the years we have managed to make some notable achievements in terms of academic results.
“They say the quality of results is determined by the conditions under which pupils are exposed to but we have managed to produce some remarkable results with one of our pupils scoring seven straight As in 2015 while in 2014, we managed eight As.
“This has put us on the map despite all the challenges we face and we are trying by all means to invest in the education of our pupils,” said Mukokoromba.
He said the school has managed to make a mark in provincial competitions, challenging some well-established schools.
The school reached the provincial level in the 2015 National Aids Council (NAC) quiz competitions and also participated in the 2013 provincial under 17 girls volleyball.
“Our biggest challenge is that we do not have enough classrooms and accommodation for our staff. The existing infrastructure is old and worn out. We think our pupils do deserve better,” said Mukokoromba.
He also said it was difficult for the school to increase enrolment because of inadequate accommodation. The school does not have electricity and is calling for well-wishers who can avail funds for connection to the national grid.
“We have a few computers that are powered by a generator and we hope to introduce computer lessons to pupils but we need to have electricity first before we can start thinking about computers,” said Mukokoromba.
The school lacks a reliable water source with the closest source, which is shared between the school and the larger community, being 1.5 km away.
“Our wish is to drill a borehole, introduce a piped water supply system and build a perimeter fence. If we happen to introduce Advanced Level classes, we would want to focus much on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program,” added Mukokoromba.

Team Lacoste, G40 in turf wars over Masvingo

…G40 recommends expulsion of Hungwe and Mahofa
…Lacoste reshuffles provincial executive, axes Jaboon

Upenyu Chaota
As Zanu-PF succession wars intensify, bitter rivals G40 and Team Lacoste are tussling over control of Masvingo province with both factions having recently convened meetings and recommended the expulsion of rival loyalists of either faction.
Alleged G40 members convened a meeting last week Thursday in Gutu where they resolved to campaign against Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Shuvai Mahofa and Liaising for Psychomotor Activities in Education minister Josaya Hungwe, accusing the two of fanning factionalism.
In retaliation, alleged Mnangagwa loyalists in the Lacoste faction convened a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting last Saturday at Masvingo Polytechnical College where they reshuffled the provincial executive replacing G40 loyalists with trusted lieutenants.
They routed for Ezra Chadzamira’s reinstatement to the post of Provincial Chairperson and relegated G40 members to peripheral positions.
Current chairperson, Amasi Nenjana was conspicuous by his absence at the PCC and was said to have sent an apology, leaving Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ailes Baloyi to chair the meeting.
Provincial Political Commissar (PC) Jeppy Jaboon was replaced by war veteran Silas Ndlovu and relegated to Deputy Secretary for the Disabled.
Provincial Women’s League boss Veronica Makonese had her post given to Rosemary Maswa and was stripped down to Deputy Secretary for Health.
The youth wing was also reshuffled with the provincial youth chairperson, Nobert Ndaarombe getting demoted and replaced by Shingi Mangwana.
“We have relieved Jaboon of his duties as our PC for various reasons. He failed to execute his duties well and worked alone without consulting the other leadership. He engineered unsanctioned meetings, that is why we have reassigned him.
“We haven’t fired them from the party but we have just given them new posts and we will continue to work with them. We also resolved to nullify the meeting that was convened in Gutu on Thursday and we will caution all the legislators who attended the unsanctioned meeting.
“We will write to all those we have reassigned and send the resolutions to Harare. We have also agreed to recall all the party vehicles used by the reassigned members particularly the one used by Ndaarombe and if they resist we will engage the police,” said Baloyi.
A strong warning was given to Masvingo urban legislator Daniel Shumba for aligning himself with G40.
In a separate interview, Shumba told TellZim News that the PCC meeting was a circus and nothing of their resolutions would hold any water.
“The PCC was unconstitutional and a circus by desperate party members who think they have the power to demote people just like that. Their resolutions are null and void. As far as we are concerned, the old provincial executive stands.
“They are misleading themselves and we would like to see who emerges victorious when the dust settles,” said Shumba.news

Zanu-PF in trouble over Mugabe cattle

0

Upenyu Chaota
Zanu-PF members in Masvingo are in serious trouble following their failure to honour their pledge to donate one hundred herd of cattle to President Robert Mugabe, this publication has learnt.
The pledge was made after Mugabe had donated 300 cattle to the African Union (AU) early this year but the province has failed to get even one herd of cattle amid revelations that Mugabe is now demanding the cattle.
Speaking at a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic College last Saturday, the provincial executive raised concern over the President’s cattle saying it was now embarrassing that they have failed to honour the pledge.
“Let us see what we can do, there is nothing to give to the President and yet he is waiting for the donation …it’s now embarrassing comrades,” said Ailless Baloyi.
Baloyi pleaded with party members to make fresh pledges to be taken to Mugabe as a matter of urgency.
Baloyi suggested that a fresh call for donations be made so that all party members from various corners of the province would contribute.
However, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa, said it was not proper to force people to donate when they are already starving.
Mahofa said it must be clear that donations are voluntary.
“The problem today is that people are hungry and they are starving in rural areas…let us not force villagers to donate please. If there are people who wish to help us out of this problem, they should come to my office and make their donations.
“The ordinary folks out there are thinking of how they can get maize for their families so we should not force these donations on anyone,” said Mahofa.
Mahofa said initially Tongaat Hullett had pledged to donate the 100 cattle but a few weeks later, the sugar company denied ever making the pledge.
“I was informed that Tongaat had pledged and I wrote a letter thanking them for the noble gesture but they replied me saying they never made such a pledge,” said Mahofa.
Mahofa however went on to say that there was a mist over the donation issue adding that only the then  Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Paradzai Chakona could able to give an explanation.
However, Chakona could not be reached for comment by the time of going to press.news

ZIMPHIA spreads to Masvingo

0
Moses Ziyambi
The Ministry of Health and Child Care last week launched the Zimbabwe Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (ZIMPHIA) at Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo with stakeholders calling for cooperation from the public, to ensure the success of the programme.
ZIMPHIA is a cross-sectional survey targeting 15 000 homes randomly selected from the country’s ten provinces in which about 30 000 adults and children are expected to be tested for HIV and AIDS.
Syphilis testing will be offered to those 15 years and above.
Dr Owen Mugurungi, Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Director of AIDS and TB said he expected the survey to register great success in Masvingo and the rest of the country.
“People will participate in the privacy and comfort of their homes with their privacy being strictly respected. We are looking forward to a fruitful working relationship with all stakeholders involved,” said Dr Mugurungi.
ZIMPHIA is part of the PHIA Project, a five-year, multi-country initiative funded by the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and led by ICAP.
The PHIA Project consists of household-based population surveys that will collect information related to HIV in approximately 15 to 20 African countries.
CDC Zimbabwe Epidemiology and Strategic Information Branch Chief, Amaka Nwankwo-Igomu said Zimbabwe was at a turning point in the quest for an HIV-free generation.
“We are happy Zimbabwe is among the first countries in the world to implement such a survey. PEPFAR is committed to continue to support AIDS relief efforts in Zimbabwe and elsewhere,” said Nwankwo-Igomu.
The main objectives of ZIMPHIA are to estimate new HIV infections at national level and estimate provincial prevalence of suppressed viral load in HIV-infected adults.
Authorities say previous surveys like the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) and the Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS) and the yearly national HIV and AIDS estimates did not provide the same quality of data as ZIMPHIA.news
