Team Lacoste, G40 in turf wars over Masvingo

…G40 recommends expulsion of Hungwe and Mahofa
…Lacoste reshuffles provincial executive, axes Jaboon

Upenyu Chaota
As Zanu-PF succession wars intensify, bitter rivals G40 and Team Lacoste are tussling over control of Masvingo province with both factions having recently convened meetings and recommended the expulsion of rival loyalists of either faction.
Alleged G40 members convened a meeting last week Thursday in Gutu where they resolved to campaign against Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Shuvai Mahofa and Liaising for Psychomotor Activities in Education minister Josaya Hungwe, accusing the two of fanning factionalism.
In retaliation, alleged Mnangagwa loyalists in the Lacoste faction convened a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting last Saturday at Masvingo Polytechnical College where they reshuffled the provincial executive replacing G40 loyalists with trusted lieutenants.
They routed for Ezra Chadzamira’s reinstatement to the post of Provincial Chairperson and relegated G40 members to peripheral positions.
Current chairperson, Amasi Nenjana was conspicuous by his absence at the PCC and was said to have sent an apology, leaving Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ailes Baloyi to chair the meeting.
Provincial Political Commissar (PC) Jeppy Jaboon was replaced by war veteran Silas Ndlovu and relegated to Deputy Secretary for the Disabled.
Provincial Women’s League boss Veronica Makonese had her post given to Rosemary Maswa and was stripped down to Deputy Secretary for Health.
The youth wing was also reshuffled with the provincial youth chairperson, Nobert Ndaarombe getting demoted and replaced by Shingi Mangwana.
“We have relieved Jaboon of his duties as our PC for various reasons. He failed to execute his duties well and worked alone without consulting the other leadership. He engineered unsanctioned meetings, that is why we have reassigned him.
“We haven’t fired them from the party but we have just given them new posts and we will continue to work with them. We also resolved to nullify the meeting that was convened in Gutu on Thursday and we will caution all the legislators who attended the unsanctioned meeting.
“We will write to all those we have reassigned and send the resolutions to Harare. We have also agreed to recall all the party vehicles used by the reassigned members particularly the one used by Ndaarombe and if they resist we will engage the police,” said Baloyi.
A strong warning was given to Masvingo urban legislator Daniel Shumba for aligning himself with G40.
In a separate interview, Shumba told TellZim News that the PCC meeting was a circus and nothing of their resolutions would hold any water.
“The PCC was unconstitutional and a circus by desperate party members who think they have the power to demote people just like that. Their resolutions are null and void. As far as we are concerned, the old provincial executive stands.
“They are misleading themselves and we would like to see who emerges victorious when the dust settles,” said Shumba.news

Zanu-PF in trouble over Mugabe cattle

0

Upenyu Chaota
Zanu-PF members in Masvingo are in serious trouble following their failure to honour their pledge to donate one hundred herd of cattle to President Robert Mugabe, this publication has learnt.
The pledge was made after Mugabe had donated 300 cattle to the African Union (AU) early this year but the province has failed to get even one herd of cattle amid revelations that Mugabe is now demanding the cattle.
Speaking at a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic College last Saturday, the provincial executive raised concern over the President’s cattle saying it was now embarrassing that they have failed to honour the pledge.
“Let us see what we can do, there is nothing to give to the President and yet he is waiting for the donation …it’s now embarrassing comrades,” said Ailless Baloyi.
Baloyi pleaded with party members to make fresh pledges to be taken to Mugabe as a matter of urgency.
Baloyi suggested that a fresh call for donations be made so that all party members from various corners of the province would contribute.
However, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Shuvai Mahofa, said it was not proper to force people to donate when they are already starving.
Mahofa said it must be clear that donations are voluntary.
“The problem today is that people are hungry and they are starving in rural areas…let us not force villagers to donate please. If there are people who wish to help us out of this problem, they should come to my office and make their donations.
“The ordinary folks out there are thinking of how they can get maize for their families so we should not force these donations on anyone,” said Mahofa.
Mahofa said initially Tongaat Hullett had pledged to donate the 100 cattle but a few weeks later, the sugar company denied ever making the pledge.
“I was informed that Tongaat had pledged and I wrote a letter thanking them for the noble gesture but they replied me saying they never made such a pledge,” said Mahofa.
Mahofa however went on to say that there was a mist over the donation issue adding that only the then  Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Paradzai Chakona could able to give an explanation.
However, Chakona could not be reached for comment by the time of going to press.news

ZIMPHIA spreads to Masvingo

0
Moses Ziyambi
The Ministry of Health and Child Care last week launched the Zimbabwe Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (ZIMPHIA) at Flamboyant Hotel in Masvingo with stakeholders calling for cooperation from the public, to ensure the success of the programme.
ZIMPHIA is a cross-sectional survey targeting 15 000 homes randomly selected from the country’s ten provinces in which about 30 000 adults and children are expected to be tested for HIV and AIDS.
Syphilis testing will be offered to those 15 years and above.
Dr Owen Mugurungi, Ministry of Health and Child Care’s Director of AIDS and TB said he expected the survey to register great success in Masvingo and the rest of the country.
“People will participate in the privacy and comfort of their homes with their privacy being strictly respected. We are looking forward to a fruitful working relationship with all stakeholders involved,” said Dr Mugurungi.
ZIMPHIA is part of the PHIA Project, a five-year, multi-country initiative funded by the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and led by ICAP.
The PHIA Project consists of household-based population surveys that will collect information related to HIV in approximately 15 to 20 African countries.
CDC Zimbabwe Epidemiology and Strategic Information Branch Chief, Amaka Nwankwo-Igomu said Zimbabwe was at a turning point in the quest for an HIV-free generation.
“We are happy Zimbabwe is among the first countries in the world to implement such a survey. PEPFAR is committed to continue to support AIDS relief efforts in Zimbabwe and elsewhere,” said Nwankwo-Igomu.
The main objectives of ZIMPHIA are to estimate new HIV infections at national level and estimate provincial prevalence of suppressed viral load in HIV-infected adults.
Authorities say previous surveys like the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) and the Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey (ZDHS) and the yearly national HIV and AIDS estimates did not provide the same quality of data as ZIMPHIA.news

Burnouts take Masvingo by storm

0
Itai Muzondo
Comparatively new form of entertainment in Masvingo called ‘burnouts’ took the city by storm last week as hordes of residents spared time to witness the burnout launch hosted by Liquids Bar International at CSC Depot in Masvingo.
The show which attracted Zimbabwe’s top spinners; Ice, Gaza, Judah and Masvingo’s 3rd District Crew left many tongue-tied as the daredevil drivers spun the wheels of their cars, while vehicles remained stationery, causing tyres to heat up and smoke due to friction.
Liquids Bar International manager Revai Tapambwa said he was happy with the people’s response and promised more of such events in the near future.
“Our major mandate as Liquids Bar International is keeping people entertained and we are happier if the people are entertained peacefully. Masvingo’s response to our burnout launch was overwhelming and we promise Masvingo that more burnouts and entertaining family shows are coming their way,” Tapambwa said.
Burnout contests are judged on crowd response, with style and attitude being important aspects for consideration. Such contests are particularly popular in Australia but often occur in North America as well. Burnouts are also common in informal street racing, usually for show value.news

One president leading two political parties

0
Abracadabra! Abracadabra! Gore rezvihuta rakauya nezvakawanda!
Haa iyi manje ndo ma1… kana kuti let me say ma1 aya atanga!
I had never thought of it until some people passed through my place discussing this issue. Hey, the two men were talking politics heavy baba but from my own assessment, they seemed to be war veterans. Aah isu we just say it as it is, hapana watinonyara because isu hapana anotinyarawo.
They were angry about what is happening in their political parties – and I have to say parties because dzatova two.  I never thought that one man could lead two political parties but it’s happening in Zimbabwe in this year of Zvihuta. You know what, when we are in this flea market, tinonzwa dzose dzaose – President Robert Mugabe is becoming a super hero. He has managed to be the first man in the world to ever lead two different political parties – Zanu Lacoste and Zanu G-40. These two political parties are costing us zvedu isu vamwe. You know what, I came here in town after being persuaded that the then Zanu-PF had promised to unlock 2,2 million jobs tikati regaivo tinoshanda. But upon arrival, hatina mabasa atakaona – look at me even today, handiti vamwe venyu munotonditiza muchiti mupengo uyo and yet it’s just that I do not have money. Munoti munhu asina pekugara atova mupengo?
I shall not continue talking about the million-men march because I think it’s now water under the bridge and some of the guys who marched against themselves in Harare are now loitering here mu flea market, it’s back to square one – isu tinongovaona necorner yeziso then we break into laughter ivo voti ha mupengo hezvo nikisi sometimes we laugh at how educated people get manipulated. Some of us who did not go to school are better because at least we say if PhD holders are now selling mabhero kuno uku, what about us who do not have those all levels kkk.
In a country where everyone marches in support or against the President, in a country where police has become a fundraising arm of the government, in a country where industries are turned into church halls and university lecture rooms, in a country where one man can be the President of two opposing political parties, in a country where a criminal can sponsor the national team, a man of Mapombi’s experience can be forgiven for thinking that there is no difference between Ancient Egypt and Zimbabwe – dzimba dzemabwe – we are in the stone age for sure kkk.
Some people were laughing at me because I sleep in the open but now I have several followers in the corridors of Masvingo kkkk. Taimbokuudzai muchiti tinonyeba vakomana kutonga haisi nyore! You can rig everything but sometimes economy can be very stubborn and you need to be very strong — but tell me, where is the much celebrated Dangote? Sorry it was not meant to hurt someone, it’s only that I think aloud. Chiruzevha chakandibaya chikatyokera.
Haa nemiwo munoenda kumisangano muchitadzawo here kubvunza …they have told you lies over and over again, investors this, investors that. We looked East for a long time now but what are the results, isu tinongotonhogwa nechando muno maDr Amai (PhD) UZ. Ko muzukuru haasati ava nediploma here – who knows maybe UZ can confer kuita just a donation, ko achiri enhamo here macampus angovawo nekumaR uko kkkk MaR campus haa maProfessor aya! By the way, I can also be called Dr Mapombi ndava ne PhD yenhamo I know how to deal with nhamo at highest level.
But apa allow Dr Mapombi to laugh, kuseka chaiko keke keke keke kiki …this man, I mean Sekuru vaSimba or Masimba or whatever munoreva kuti vatotadza kuraira Mboko here? I hear this man you call Mpoko or Perekezera orambira muhotera – how life can be different, vamwe we survive on rotten bananas when Mboko is living at the Rainbow village… anyway chimboitai. That’s why Mapombi would think Ngwena is a better devil, because you can’t live muhotera, ndokunonzi kusanyara! Ko bonus yakazopera kubhadharwa here? Isu tozvizivirepi setiri paticket… how about ma salaries, are they coming, tell me about cash ichiko here, kkk ndava kuda kuziva zvakawanda but someone decides to live in a hotel for five years mapedza moti pamberi  pwetere pwetere haa imi, sekuru tsiurai munhu uyo kani anokunyadzisai!
I am very hungry and ndiri patight let me go for lunch ndimbonokanga zvangu maputi!
Mukadarika nekwaChirimudombo ndokumbirawo kuti muvaudze kuti Mapombi mupenyu but please don’t tell them that I have lost weight because they might get extremely worried! Let us pray for Zimbabwe harsh tag Mapombi’s prayer.

GZU student goes missing

0

Tafadzwa Nyikadzino
A Great Zimbabwe University student mysteriously went missing two weeks ago and his parents and fellow colleagues have since started to send messages on Whatsapp in search of him, TellZim News has learnt.
The shocking incident is said to have taken place days before the GZU end of semester examinations commenced.  Tinashe Makotose who is a first year student studying for a Bachelor of Education Degree went missing after leaving the school in a Nissan Bluebird which belonged to his parents.
Since then, the missing student has not been seen and his whereabouts are yet to be established. Great Zimbabwe University Public Relations Officer, Anderson Chipatiso, confirmed the incident though he said he was not aware of what happened to the student before he went missing.
“There is a B.Ed. student who has not been reporting for exams and his parents are looking for him but I do not know what happened to him,” he said.
Acting Masvingo Provincial Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, declined to comment on the issue saying no report had been made to the police concerning the missing student.news

‘Chadzamira must leave Crest of Ibeka’

0
. . . community says farm must be turned into agricultural college
Kennedy Murwira
Members of the farming community around Crest of Ibeka, the farm that was taken over by Masvingo West legislator, Ezra Chadzamira, have said the farm should be turned into an agricultural college as per their earlier recommendation, TellZim News can reveal.
A member of the Ward Committee, who declined to be named for political reasons said when Chadzamira took over the farm from Yvonne Goddard, he disrupted a bulling programme that had just begun to bear fruit.  He added that the farming community on Ibeka, Heathcote and Idhladhla farms were not happy with Chadzamira’s stay on the farm and wanted it to be turned into an agricultural college as per their previous resolution.
The ward member alleged that Chadzamira had taken advantage of the fact that he was then the provincial Zanu-PF chairman and had used his influence to take over the farm. He said Chadzamira was bringing in herds of cattle of an inferior breed compared to what obtained during Mrs Goddard’s stay.
“The size of The Crest of Ibeka does not allow for the current herd of cattle that is on the farm,” he said.
The committee member said they would soon approach Provincial Affairs Minister, Shuvai Mahofa, to ask her to approach Lands Minister, Douglas Mombeshora and seek nullification of Chadzamira’s occupation of The Crest of Ibeka. He added that while that action was being undertaken the Ward Assembly would look at other avenues to remove Chadzamira from the farm.
Reliable sources within the Lands ministry told this reporter that ideas were being thrown around concerning the future of The Crest of Ibeka with some officials asking for Yvonne Goddard’s return.
Asked to comment one Samson Zvoushe who was once given an offer letter to occupy the same farm some years ago said the matter had received enough media coverage adding that he would respect any decision that was taken by the Provincial Lands Committee.
Efforts to get a comment from Chadzamira were fruitless as his mobile phone was going unanswered till the time of going to print.news

Stranded war vets live in open for two months

0
Upenyu Chaota
Seven stranded families of war veterans who were evicted from Southwill farm – about 25 km east of Masvingo city are becoming destitute as they have lived in the open for close to two months now with children being exposed to harsh winter weather conditions.
However, the war veterans have turned down the Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Shuvai Mahofa’s land offer at Tokwe Mukosi catchment area saying they do not want to be moved from the land that is rightfully theirs.
This publication was informed that the land in question however, belongs to Orsman Khan who holds the title deeds to the 1 500 hectares piece of land.
On April 27 2016 Khan’s workers accompanied by the Messenger of Court destroyed the houses of the war veterans in his farm saying that they were illegal settlers, leaving seven families homeless.
Speaking at a war veterans meeting at Masvingo Polytechnical College two weeks ago, Mahofa promised the evicted families pieces of land at Tokwe Mukosi catchment area if they organised themselves.
“I have heard the plight of our fellow comrades and if they organise themselves I am sure I will be able to provide land for them since we are clearing the Tokwe Mukosi catchment area. In that area, they will live more peacefully without any fears of being evicted.
“They will have a better and bigger place to start all over,” said Mahofa.
War veterans national secretary for Legal Affairs, Charlice Muchena has however shot down Mahofa’s efforts saying his fellow comrades have vowed to stay put on the farm.
“Mahofa was just making a political statement. Our people have been on the farm for over 17 years and you cannot just move them now.
“Khan’s farm was initially 1 232 hectares but because of corruption, he was given1 500 hectares during the pegging process thereby disadvantaging our people. The land which Khan is claiming to own is not his, that is why we have since tried to engage the Ministry of Lands to try and diffuse the matter.
“We went as war veterans to meet the provincial lands director but we could not find him which made us leave him a letter but we have got no response thus far,” said Muchena.
Asked where the evicted families are at the moment after their homes were destroyed, Muchena said they were still living in the open.
“We are going to visit them as war veterans and see how best we can handle the situation but they will not be moved,” said Muchena.news

Gutu school consults n’angas over mubobobo teacher

0

Kennedy Murwira
The story of the mubobobo fears at Mataruse Primary School in Gutu recently took a new twist after a committee comprising teachers and members of the local community was formed and tasked to visit a number of traditional witchdoctors in a quest to unravel the culprit.
Sources close to the school told TellZim News that the committee visited several traditional witchdoctors both in Gutu and Buhera districts. The school lies close to the Nyazvidzi River which forms the border between the two districts. They said they were still waiting for a second opinion from faith healers or other capable individuals although the culprit had already been identified and had been approached with a view to settle the issue once and for all.
Mataruse Primary was in the news last year after a number of lady teachers at the school said they were experiencing unusual sexual activity while in deep slumber.
The teachers said while they went to bed dressed they woke up in the morning to find that they had been undressed with evidence that they had been intimate with someone during the night. Most of them had threatened that they wanted to transfer from the school while some of them had already left the school.
The same complaints had been raised by villagers in surrounding villages who said they were going through the same experiences. The experiences had in some instances resulted in stillbirths where pregnant women were concerned, the complainants said.
Sources at the school said the culprit who had been identified was a teacher at the school.news

Gutu pastor steals $200 at church meeting

0
Kennedy Murwira
A pastor with the Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church recently stole $200 which was meant to go towards the construction of a church hall near Bishop Mugodhi’s home in the Sadza area in Chivhu Dsitrict.
Church members told TellZim News that when the money went missing during a church meeting Pastors Zvenyika, Shatei Junior and Senior, Dzinotyiwei, Gwatu and Mubaiwa suspected each other of having picket ed the money. Eventually they agreed to search each other so that the issue of the missing money could be resolved. The money had been contributed by church members who attended the meeting which was held near Mupako dip tank.
The money was found stashed in Pastor Mubaiwa’s pocket under his robe. He felt so ashamed that he immediately bade farewell to all the church members and left the church meeting in a huff for his home under Chief Munyaradzi accompanied by his second wife.  All the congregants who were gathered at the meeting were shocked by the pastor’s behavior but did not say anything to reprimand him.
While Pastor Mubaiwa could not be reached for comment the most senior pastor at the meeting, Pastor Zvenyika, confirmed that some money had indeed gone missing and had been found in Mubaiwa’s possession.
He said as a church they had formally reported the incident to Bishop Mugodhi who had promised to look into the matter. Pastor Zvenyika added that there was a church committee within the church that had the responsibility to deal with such issues and it was up to that committee to decide on how to handle Pastor Mubaiwa’s case.
“Yes I can confirm that some money went missing at Mupako and it was found in the possession of one of our pastors. We have since notified Bishop Mugodhi about the issue and he is dealing with it. It is up to him to inform the committee that deals with such issues within the church before he makes a decision on the matter,” said Pastor Zvenyika.news
