Blessed Children: Best ECD Centre in Zvishavane

Patricia Makubaro
The opening of Blessed Children ECD Centre offers a perfect opportunity for young children to learn and develop their minds in a welcoming environment while sufficiently preparing for primary education.
Eunice Dube, who is the Director for Blessed Children ECD Centre said the school is defined by passion for the proper grooming of children from an early age.
“Coming from a teaching background, I have always wanted to be involved with child education. The 15 years I worked as a teacher helped me to develop and strengthen my passion for children. My goal is to help children become the best they can in life through effective nurturing of their talents.
“Our name, Blessed Children, is a recognition of the important place that children have in our hearts as parents and in society as a whole, said Dube.
Starting with only 30 children when it opened in 2012, the centre has managed to grow its reputation, with many parents recognising it as an excellent place to enroll their children.
“We are very proud of our record so far because a good number of pupils at such schools as Shabani Primary have passed through our hands with most of them doing very well and getting awards,” said Dube.
Apart from teaching and taking care of children, Dube said they have a number of summer activities on offer.
“We have exciting activities for our children. We occasionally take them to tourist attractions and we have various sporting activities,” she said.
Parents can also relax knowing their children are learning under sanitary conditions as the centre has installed two reserve water tanks and a solar system for power back-up.
Tested borehole water ensures that the place never runs out of running water at all times.
Indeed, the children who are enrolled at the centre are blessed, enjoying the privilege of doing computer lessons at a tender age.
An astute business woman with high ambitions, Dube has received a certificate in recognition of her contribution in the Small to Medium Enterprises sector for her enterprising efforts.news

Musiso students denied permission to register for exams

Brighton Chiseva
Four ‘A’ level students from St Anthony High School in Zaka have been denied permission to register for their November examinations at the school after being accused of various misconducts including going out of bounds and smoking dagga.
Students who spoke to this publication said the school told Emmanuel Mhere, Learnmore Makwagudze, Takudzwa Madziva and Trevor Mateko that they could not register.
“The reasons for denying them the right to register for exams with the school had to do with alleged acts of gross indiscipline but we feel they are being too harsh and unfair to those students,” said one student.
The students are believed to be in limbo as they now risk failing to sit for the examinations, a development which may see them having to repeat their upper six classes.
When asked for comment, St Antony Headmistress Emmaculate Tinago denied ever barring the students from registering, saying the claims are meant to tarnish the school’s good reputation.
“What you hear are only lies that are meant to tarnish the school’s good image,” she said
She said there were genuine cases of misconduct against the four and they were asked to bring their parents to map the way forward but only Mateko complied and was allowed to register.
“They misbehaved and we asked them to bring their parents but they did not and decided to register somewhere else. The matter is even known at the DEO’s office and he also asked them to bring their parents,” said Tinago.
However, Zaka District Education Officer (DEO) James Mahofa said he was not personally aware of the issue.
“I am not aware of that issue. It was probably handled by inspectors. We do not deal with students’ misconduct but with misconducts involving teachers,” said Mahofa.
He also said it was not proper for schools to deny pupils permission to register, adding that schools should not impose excessive penalties against students in case of behavioral problems.news

Chiredzi vendor loses ear over $2

Increase Gumbo
A Chiredzi mealies vendor, Muchapareva Mbaimbai was left without her left ear after she was attacked by another vendor on Monday over a US$2 debt she has owed her  since December last year.
Mbaimbai told TellZim News that she was attacked by the woman she identified as Mai B whom she owed the US$2.
“She approached me at Shingai Market where I was making some orders and made enquiries concerning the debt. I then told her to come home rather than demand her money in a public place.
She then became angry and grabbed my throat and pinned me down before a certain passer-by restrained her,” said Mbaimbai.
She said her attacker then went away only to come back a few minutes later with more vengeance.
“After a few minutes she returned and  violently grabbed my hands then bit off a part of my ear and spat the piece of the ear on the ground…a man who was close by grabbed her to end the commotion,” said Mbaimbai.
Mbaimbai was then taken to Chiredzi General Hospital where she received medical attention and the case was reported at ZRP Chiredzi Police Station.
Attempts to get a comment from the Provincial Police Spokesperson Charity Mazula were fruitless since she had not received the report by the time of going to print.news

We won’t campaign for MPs this time: Ndaarombe

Brighton Chiseva
Zanu-PF Masvingo Province Youth League Chairperson Norbert Ndaarombe last week told Zaka youths who gathered at Jerera Community Hall for mobilisation of the ‘one million men march’ that this time youths were not going to campaign for MPs and councillors but for President Mugabe only.
“This time we will campaign for the President only and the MPs will campaign for themselves. In 2008 we were used to do different things but when the youths were arrested, they just folded their arms and denied involvement so the only person watogona kusungirwa (for whom we are prepared to go to jail) is the President.
“We can’t afford to be used, kupinza munhu asingadzoki kuvanhu vakamupinza and after all akapiwa zvinhu kuti azotipa oba haachasvitsi (we cannot elect somebody who does not come back after they win and even if they are given things for us, they steal) so we will campaign for the President only,” said Ndaarombe.
He urged young people to avoid being used by politicians for small gifts and urged the provincial as well as district leadership to go into wards and listen to people’s concerns.
“Musashandiswa nevanhu muchipiwa doro, (avoid being used for beer),” he said.
Ndaarombe said the youth had already started campaigning for President Mugabe for the 2018 elections saying the President was the only centre of power that must be supported.
“We work with all structures and genuine war vets, listen to your chairpersons and desist from violence. Regai kudzingana muchiti munhu wese waune personal grudge naye is gamatox (don’t expel each other labelling all your opponents as gamatox) because the party does not survive on that,” said Ndaarombe.news

Duo caged 8 years for robbery

Upenyu Chaota
The Chivi Magistrate court has sentenced two robbers Tafadzwa Munetsi (27) and Stanford Chibanda (43) to eight years in prison each on two counts of robbery.
Munetsi, who is from Mbizo, Kwekwe, and Chibanda, from Ascot in Gweru, were driving a silver grey Toyota Corrolla along the Mhandamabwe-Chibi highway when they committed the crimes.
Magistrate Bishard Chineka sentenced both men to eight years behind bars and suspended one month on condition that they do not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
It is the State’s case that on April 25, 2016, Munetsi and Chibanda were travelling along the Mhandamabwe-Chibi highway at around 5:00 am when they offered the victim, Timothy Chimire, a ride from Mhanda bus stop.
After picking up Chimire, the car drove for about four kilometres heading towards Chivi turn off but stopped at Tsuro bus stop.
They switched off the headlights of the car, switched on the light in the car and grabbed the complainant by the neck.
They searched him, removed his clothes then pushed him out of the car and sped off.
The court heard that the duo continued with their robbery spree and proceeded to pick yet another victim, Morgan Matumba, at Chivi growth point.
After about three kilometres, the car stopped at Mazorodze bus stop and the robbers repeated what they had done to Chimire but this time they pointed a pistol at Matumba.
The court also heard that there was a third robber in the car, only identified as Joe who is still at large.
Matumba was robbed of US$450, R9000, his passport, a Samsung phone and all his clothes.
Reports were made to the police leading to the duo’s arrest in Zaka by the CID Mashava.

Irrigation to increase in the Lowveld, says Made

Increase Gumbo
The Minister of Agriculture Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Joseph Made said the Lowveld will soon experience a boom in irrigation farming with the near completion of Tokwe Mukosi dam which he said has the capacity to irrigate more than 27 000 hectares of land.
Made, who was speaking during a tour of Nandi Estate recently, did not however say how the government plans to complete the dam following the departure of the Italian contractor after a fallout with government over non-payment of dues.
“Tokwe Mukosi dam is nearing completion and 27 000 hectares of land will benefit from the water once the dam is finished and this will lead to more irrigation schemes in the surrounding areas,” said Made.
Made said once the dam is complete, people will be expected to work hard to make sure the dam does not become a white elephant.
He said the dam would be able to transform the fortunes of the Lowveld in line with government desires to turn Chiredzi and Mwenezi districts into the green belt of Zimbabwe.
“We should make use of all water bodies and once the dam is complete, it should not lie idle but should be utilised so that the Lowveld becomes the breadbasket of Zimbabwe,” said Made.
He urged sugar cane farmers in Chiredzi to reserve some of their land for cereal crops such as wheat and sorghum in order to fight food shortages in the country.
“Farmers should set aside land for use in growing cereals such as wheat and sorghum in order to fight food shortages,” said Made.
The giant Tokwe Mukosi dam has had a troubled history over the almost 20 years it has taken to build it to its current stage with the contractor stopping work a number of times over government failure to honour contractual terms.
The latest walk-out by the contractor has left the project in limbo, casting into serious doubt plans to transform the agricultural fortunes of the semi-arid southern lowveld.news

Evan Mawarire speaks on #This Flag campaign

Itai Muzondo
Outspoken Pastor and activist of the ‘#This Flag’ campaign, Evan Mawarire has urged all Zimbabwean to stand up and speak against the socio-economic problems that are bedevilling the country.
Mawarire told TellZim News that there is no need for him to launch his ‘#This flag’ campaign in every province because the message has already reached everyone through social media.
He encouraged those who have seen his social media videos to wrap themselves in the national flag and join the campaign to push for solutions for the political and economic problems facing the country.
“Visiting every corner of the country is not necessary right now. Everyone already knows things are not well and all they need to learn is how to stand up and speak out. That is the core of #ThisFlag campaign.
“It’s about emboldening the citizen to speak out once again. Social media and word of mouth will do the job. I don’t need to come there (Masvingo or any other province). I’m not doing this as a secret. Bad governance will come to an end and I go about my daily chores without hiding. In short #ThisFlag is a citizen’s movement,” Mawarire said.
He said he was moved by the worsening socio-economic situation and decided to start his campaign whose use of WhatsApp and Twitter has earned him multitudes of fans.
“Zimbabwe is my country and I can’t be doing nothing while things get worse. What our national flag stands for and what the nation has become are worlds apart. It is my job as a citizen to get involved in the building of my country.
“Hapana asiri kuzviona kuti nyika yaparara and that madhara apererwa (Nobody can hide from the fact that the country has been destroyed and the government is clueless).
“We have so many intellectuals in this country who can help with meaningful advice but they are never consulted. The citizen is the one who votes so the citizen must be the one who complains when the people they voted for are failing to do what they promised us,” Mawarire added.news

Utsinda College gets Mugabe’s nod

Kennedy Murwira
Utsinda Christian College, which had stopped construction work due to inflated payment demands made by Gutu Rural District Council, last week got President Robert Mugabe’s green light to continue after Chief Gutu briefed him on the matter.
The council was demanding that the college’s founder, University of Zimbabwe Medical School lecturer, Professor Rangarirai Eben Masanganise, pay US$320 000 to council.
Initially council wanted the money to be paid at the rate of $10 000 per month but later revised the payment plan to $5 000 per month for 2016 and $2 000 per month next year.
President Mugabe questioned why the council wanted to be paid so much money for the mountainous land which never appeared on any development plan before the establishment of the college.
He condemned theft and greed in councils and said Gutu was no exception.
“Professor Masanganise’s idea is noble. He saw the opportunities in the Utsinda mountains and decided to exploit them. What then is the $320 000 for? We don’t want this nonsense.
“The area was underdeveloped – after all the land belongs to the chief. In this regard there should be no payment for development. Construction work should resume immediately and Professor Masanganise must not pay anything to the council,” Mugabe said.
Gutu Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer, Alexander Mutembwa, sat passively while President Mugabe berated his councilors. Next to him sat the council’s chairman, Nicholas Zambara.
Mugabe said all councils were asking for outrageous payments in return for development and this did not augur well for the future of the country as there could be no development in the absence of roads, schools and hospitals.
“It’s not only the Movement for Democratic Change -run councils that are corrupt. Our own people in Zanu-PF are also doing it,” he said.
Professor Masanganise intends to put up a school and hospital next to the conference centre which was constructed at Mak Camp in the same area a few years ago.
After Mugabe had left, Masanganise told TellZim News that he would soon be working to complete Utsinda Christian College since he had been given the green light by the highest authority in the country.news

Harare City fan brings gun to stadium

Patricia Makubaro
A Harare City soccer fan is in trouble after he produced a loaded pistol in the terraces during a soccer match between Harare City and FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium, Zvishavane on May 7, 2016.
Milton Denhere (48), who resides at number 9775 New Glen View in Harare, was caught with the pistol loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition and hurled before the Zvishavane magistrate’s court.
Zvishavane Magistrate Sherpard Munjanja ordered Denhere to pay US$100 fine or face an effective 60 days in prison saying having a gun licence is no go ahead for people to misuse or wrongly display their guns.
A roving supporter of Harare City, Denhere stunned the court when he admitted that he had brought his pistol all the way from Harare to the soccer match.
“I had done bank transactions and that’s why I carried my gun,” Denhere said in mitigation.
He said he had a licence for the gun but had forgotten it in Harare when he came to Zvishavane for the match.

Satanism scare at Makonde Primary

Moses Ziyambi
Makonde Primary School in Gutu district is reeling under suspicions that a teacher at the school has initiated some pupils into Satanism after the pupils began to act strangely following their participation in prayer sessions led by the teacher.
The Grade 7 teacher, who has been identified as Henry Shumba, is said to be in the habit of taking his pupils to his house for prayer sessions during lesson time.
Although the school’s head, Eria Makumbinde refused to comment, some parents said they suspect the sessions, known as ‘Deliverance’, are being used to initiate pupils into the dark underworld.
Ward 28 Councillor, Johnson Nhema, said he had taken the issue to the District Education Officer (DEO) after receiving complaints from parents who say their children were becoming delusional.
“Parents are angry that their children could be exposed to satanic rituals disguised as prayer meetings. Up to five parents have complained that their children have suddenly fallen sick while others have visions of weird things and snakes,” said Nhema.
Parents said Shumba works with a ‘dodgy’ local prophet to whom he directs the traumatised children for ‘deliverance’, telling their parents that their children cannot be helped anywhere else.
A mother to one of the victims (name withheld), said she believes Shumba is pursuing a sinister agenda while pretending to be a man of God.
“My daughter has not been well after she got involved in Shumba’s so-called deliverance meetings. She sometimes loses sight when she goes to school and she acts strangely. There are several other parents whose children are facing a similar problem.
“One day I took my daughter to one of the sessions to see what happens there only to be shocked when another seemingly possessed pupil started to say strange things to the extent that my daughter was being bewitched.
“I want to know who gave the teacher a right to induct our children into the spiritual realm without our consent,” said Gusha.
Gutu DEO, Sonnie Christian Chirikure said he had reprimanded Shumba about involving children into things that are outside his job description.
“He assured me he had stopped. Teachers must not go beyond the normal teaching duties that are expected of them. They must not get pupils into issues of spirituality beyond the classroom.
“We however find it problematic to deal with such cases because they do not breach the Ministry’s code of conduct. We have therefore recommended that the case be taken up by the traditional leadership,” said Chirikure.
Shumba is expected to appear at Chief Makore’s court next week.news
