MASVINGO – FC Wangu Mazodze have been plunged into turmoil just days before their highly anticipated Masvingo derby against city rivals Masvingo United, with four key officials resigning amid a deepening financial crisis.
Assistant coach Martin Jongwe Nyanzira, team manager Emion Maganga, Treasurer General Aleck Tabe, and club spokesperson Courage Kandira have all left their positions in a short period.
Speaking with TellZim News, Tabe, who is also a committee member, said heavy pressure from his work and a financial crisis were the main reasons for his resignation.He said the club’s financial challenges had led him to contribute his own money toward the welfare of the players.
“It’s pressure from work, plus the sponsor no longer has money; I had to contribute my own money for the welfare of the players,” Tabe said.
In his resignation letter dated September 15, Tabe said pressing matters at work and home required his undivided attention.
He said he valued his time as an executive member and would remain a supporter of the club.Nyanzira also announced his resignation as interim coach, thanking the executive, players, technical team, supporters, and the community for their support.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the team. I cherish every moment I spent in charge,” Nyanzira said.
Club chairperson Knowledge Mabvuure confirmed the departures of Tabe and Kandira but said Nyanzira remained part of the club.
Mabvuure said Maganga was an employee of the Mazodze Family Trust who had been seconded to FC Wangu Mazodze.
He said the club would hold an emergency meeting to address the developments.
The departures come at a crucial stage of the season, with Wangu Mazodze sitting 16th on the league table with 20 points from 26 matches and preparing for a derby against Masvingo United on Sunday.
With several officials leaving and financial challenges acknowledged within the club, Wangu Mazodze now face the task of reorganizing ahead of the derby on September 20, 2026.ember 20, 2026.
